VIDEOWIZARD'S PROFILE

I've been at making games for RPG Maker for almost 20 years! No, they're not ALL Dragon Kingdoms games, just most of 'em.

Executive Decision 2.1 - Age Requirements

I was like that back in the day. All my work until the mid-1990s was a ripoff of several different RPGs and games. My first semi-serious RPG used characters from Zelda, Mario, and Sonic. That stopped for the second one, as I introduced some of my own (and even my sister's) characters.

After that, my works were ripping off maybe one or two games. Dragon Kingdoms started out as a rip of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest- it was almost called Dragon Fantasy, but that was taken. Dragon Kingdoms started to get its own character around its fourth installment.

Virtual Game Maker DS

I would hold off on this, because you need a flash cart for the time being, which I think is dumb. Basically, Virtual Game Maker DS is useless, and the time would be better spent just using RPG Maker.

The basic idea is no better than the RPG Makers on Playstation (2) anyway.

It's not much

But it is a something, given that I made the new title screen on the 13th. I do have other things to add, but it's nearly 3AM as I type this.

Dragon Kingdoms VI will also be on RPG Maker VX, as opposed to RM2k, RM2k3 or RMXP. Yes, three makers have passed, as I want to make it where it is unique within the series. In fact, I'm looking at prototyping on this one, so it won't be as long before it is released, not as complex as Birth of a Legend is, in terms of mapping (maybe 5-10 screens per area), but the mechanics will be deeper (it IS the sixth game in the series, after all).

RPG Maker VX Information Website

Looking through the site a little further, I see games that are made with RPG Makers dating back to 1992 (the Dante 98 in the "Other" section). So, they're still using RPG Makers from 15 years ago.

I guess that means the Virtual Console thing is mainly for America and overseas, or for systems such as the NES/Famicom that aren't made in Japan anymore. If RPG Maker 98 is still being used (and possibly sold), does that mean the Super NES (Super Famicom), Genesis (Mega Drive), Saturn, N64, Dreamcast, and PSOne are still being used over there?

This seems to run against the technologically advanced thing Japan is known for.

Top Ten Topic: Gamecube

Yeah, the Virtual Boy is a handheld, all right... if you're a giant.

As for my GameCube favorites:
1. Super Smash Bros. Melee
2. Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition
3. Tales of Symphonia
4. Legend of Zelda Wind Waker
5. Super Mario Sunshine

Don't really have 10 games, and don't let the #5 Super Mario Sunshine fool you, it's still above Mario Kart Double Dash, Paper Mario:TTYD, and F-Zero GX.

I actually didn't like Paper Mario: TTYD, and thought the original Paper Mario was better.

Yeah, I think this is the first time I've actually planned a release for a maker this early.
By contrast, it took until late 2005 for me to get into RMXP.

Why is the community so attached to RPG Maker 2000/2003, anyway? They've topped out, and the scenes I made in RMXP didn't look half as good in RM2k/3. Seriously, the NES didn't have its heyday for this long. If that is counted from its original release to the last big game (Dragon Warrior IV), that is October 1985 to October 1992, 7 years. Reasonable, as it usually takes a year for the new system to catch on (the only exception was for the GameCube-to-Wii transition, but the GC was in limbo almost a year before the Wii's release- Wiilease?)

RPG Maker 2000 was released in June 2000 (seven and a half years ago), and it's almost 2008. While RPG Maker 2003 is somewhat newer (December 2002), it, too, is showing its age. RPG Maker XP was released in July 2004, so its time for a new maker, no matter which one you use.

I believe the clinging to an old maker is what has caused the community to suffer.

Dragon Quest IV!

I'm confused how Mara and Nara are French now, on a continent that looks a lot like South America.
As for Ragnar's level, I would've thought it'd make sense for him to reach around level 15 by Chapter 5, even if he is at level 12 at the end of Chapter 1. Certainly, he's done some fighting between Burland and Endor...

This is about how I was leveled up in the original Dragon Warrior IV:
Alena, Cristo, and Brey ended around level 15 in Chapter 2.
Taloon reached level 14 in Chapter 3.
Mara and Nara reached level 14 in Chapter 4.

My Ragnar ended up around level 11 at the end of Chapter 1, so he'd start out weaker. I heard they made this remake easier, when Dragon Quest IV wasn't that hard to begin with.

As for Boomerangs being added, um... they already existed in the original (buy them in Izmit). They didn't have the multi-enemy attack like in Dragon Quest V and later.

Could Dragon Kingdoms VI yet see light in 2007? (Yes, I'm hinting at something here) After all, I've recently found quite a few of my old concepts for it, including some screens- and therefore, the first its moved since early 2006.

Granted, it wouldn't be much, but that's not what this is about, is it :)

Aveyond II is coming out tomorrow

Aveyond II is already out, and I haven't played the first one, because I refuse to sink $15 into a game that looks like any other RMXP game, and probably plays like them, too. It doesn't even use custom graphics!

I'm not charging for my work, even though I *did* take a bit of a loss, from the backup CDs, a scanner, and a 3D model program (which I didn't end up using). I think it was about $150 all together, which would be ten downloads at the rate listed above- barely worth it (Honestly, I doubt ten people would pay $15 for a Dragon Kingdoms game).

I'd hate to think making Aveyond I was *THAT* expensive, I thought I read somewhere that it cost $1,000 or so, and its already had thousands of downloads, so... that's just corporate greediness.

There was an RPG Maker XP game called Dreams: Essence of Life that had much higher production values, and he planned to make it free.

RPG Maker in Super Smash Bros

I thought maybe they were going to pull a stunt like that for a moment :D
Yes, Alex is a must, and I might want to add Zack as an alternate. Brian would be their partner-in-crime, which makes me wonder. Why does he appear in RM2k AND RM2k3?

I'm a little sad that there's no Dragon Kingdoms mentioned here, but its to be expected.

Well, here's what I'd like to add:
The main character from that 1920's styled game (Found it, Night Shift Noble, by Veiraza)
Rowen from Finding Forever Eden
The two characters from Dragoon Legends (probably can't though, because its not really RPG Maker)
Characters from older RMD & Frying Bear games, such as Dreamer, Diary of a Madman, the Tyrant God Saga, and Dawn of Darkness)
Characters from RM95 games as well.

I don't have anything else in mind right now.
