VIDEOWIZARD'S PROFILE

I've been at making games for RPG Maker for almost 20 years! No, they're not ALL Dragon Kingdoms games, just most of 'em.

Itagaki leaving Tecmo, suing Tecmo for $1.6 million

And this will start a rash of people doing the same thing at other companies. People already left Square-Enix to form their own company, so this isn't new.

I could certainly see this happening at EA, Capcom, Atari, Microsoft (we don't want to do Halo Wars!), probably Square-Enix again from the lack of creativity issue, probably Nintendo, and Sony if they don't get things in gear, so, yeah, we may be headed for another 1984, folks. And I don't mean the book.

On that note, after Dragon Quest VI DS is released, I'm probably done with S-E myself. I'm not really interested in Final Fantasy XIII or any of its spinoffs, so, yeah.

Sonic Unleashed

The ramp is one thing, but I think it's the background that kills the deal for me. I think this is the problem. It's too realistic compared to the 16-bit Sonic days. Oh, and where are the enemies and rings? In the Genesis days, there'd be at least one enemy, if not two, at that location, and rings would round the ramp.

It just doesn't have that Genesis feel. Then add the fact that most recent Sonic games either don't allow him to be fast, or fill the area with pits, or worse, keep him on rails, and it's easy to see why Sonic hasn't had a hit since 1999. In fact, I think that's why the handhelds have fared better in recent years.

Before Sonic Adventure, handhelds were worst and consoles were best, Sonic-wise.
During the Sonic Adventure years, they were both mediocre.
And now, consoles are worst and handhelds are best, as the DS has a 32-bit style that Sonic mostly skipped. Still nothing compared to the pre-Sonic Adventure days.

And this is before certain annoying characters were added. Rouge the Bat? Big the Cat? Shadow the Evil Hedgehog? And let's not forget the Robotnik/Eggman change.

Best number of Downloads

341 games, 41280 downloads. That means each game averages 121 downloads.

So your game is average, then? On that note, how on earth did I manage nearly 3 times that?

And Legacies of Dondoran went from 2nd place with 1942 downloads to 1st place with 2002 downloads just in this topic. Hmm... I wonder why?

Release Something! Day III: Demo Day Edition [June 20th, 2008]

It's official. I don't have anything for this Release Something. It's a shame, too. I was planning on making a quick demo in RPG Studio, but, alas. Windows XP only.

So, see you next fall.

Not good enough, I'm afraid. We need to know why it doesn't work on Vista. (And, actually, 90% of it DOES) Many, many programs that have claimed that did under compatibility settings, including RPG Maker 2000/2003. The RMXP issue was compatibility between the nTitles server.

The program is looking for files in a directory with an extra \ in the folder name.

Looks to me like a simple linking problem, considering the resources and previews do load.

And, to top it all off, you can't even make a profit over your game if you wanted to! Well, what's the point, then? That's okay for regular RPGs, but for MMORPGs, you would eventually have to pay for servers or server use to keep any kind of community.

I'm going to keep away from this one for now.

It looks like it has isometric "2.5D" capability, from what I see. And others should take notes from this release. It was done when everything was ready, not a "I'm working on this, but there's no download available yet" unlike, say, Stencyl or RPGCreator 3D.

Only downside I see is that it's already June 16th, and Release Something is June 20th. But RPG Studio will be useful for the September RS.

EDIT: I take back all the compliments I gave. RPG Studio is currently useless to me as a Vista user. Really freaking useless, which is a shame because:
I got the resources to load, the maps to load, and everything else to load but the editors themselves.

The dreaded \ in a folder name, possibly the ONLY reason it won't load- if you then go to the folder and click on it, it will just say to use RPG Studio.

In short, thanks but no thanks, I'm not an MMORPG type anyway.

I think most people are busy with their Something, or else are busy with exams. Besides that, it is actually snowing in many of the Western states and provinces.

Square-enix.. No more creative games!

And TWEWY sales don't really have much to do with this, because it wasn't out until April overseas, or Fiscal Year '08. Come to think of it, what DID Square-Enix release here last year? Dragon Quest Swords barely counts, having been released in February. And of course Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker in November. But that's about it, I think.
Fair enough, but if TWEWY were selling like hotcakes, I think the boss wouldn't be so cheesed. Anyway, the Japanese sales would be pretty important here, too. I'm pretty sure that even with the larger number of gamers in America, Japan's the more lucrative RPG market.

More likely than not, I imagine he just saw sales are dropping, and even if the outside-the-box games were selling fairly well (that is to say: more than making back their budgets, not selling well compared to Final Fantasy), he'd zone in on them as problems because they cost more to make than remakes and don't sell as many copies even on a good day.

-_- Honestly, though, what does he expect? Video games are a luxury item and a dollar doesn't go as far as it used to. American sales are going to be less than every company wanted, I imagine.

Well, if TWEWY didn't sell well in Japan, why did they release it here? Usually, original titles that don't do well in Japan do WORSE in the states.

Endless remakes. Now we can practically GUARANTEE another Final Fantasy I-VI remake set. Yet, they still won't give Final Fantasy VII-IX the time of day. However, for those looking for a new Dragon Quest I-III remake set, this probably will be the first step toward it.

The fact that I can only think of two titles in the entire April-March time frame is not a good sign. I'm aware of Final Fantasy I and II, but that's a rehash with RMVX graphics. It sounds like the Anniversary Collection didn't do too well.
