This game is a mess and I hate it

I agree. There's always the possibility that you're being too hard on yourself.

Worst case scenario, if you really decide that the game should be abandoned, is there any chance you could re-purpose the graphics, music, and resources for another project?

Best RM Games With Only Default Resources?

Perhaps a better idea is to look at games that are RTP-heavy instead of straight-out RTP. That opens the doors a little more since a lot of games that use the RTP (or the better games, at least) also use edits and the like.

Hero's Realm is a great example of this.

Good point. Otherwise it becomes a little too restrictive, I guess.

I've been playing Hero's Realm and it's a lot of fun! I haven't finished it yet, though ^_^

Cool by me ^_^

Best RM Games With Only Default Resources?

In my opinion Crossbone (rm2k(3)) used the RTP very well =).

Interesting! I'll have to try it out.

It's fine for generic RPGs, but anything except that and it falls short. Not surprising since that's what it's made for. If you want it to be used good, you'll need games that only use it as a base and adds their own resources on top. And then it wouldn't strictly be RTP anymore.

Good point. Using just RTP excludes anything that doesn't fit in that fantasy-like setting, and then you can't do anything modern or sci-fi, and the flavor of the game is locked into the set style. And there are plenty of RPG Maker games I love that just could never have been made with just the RTP.

WYRM WARRIORS! Design a location!

Oooh, very nice! That looks great! :D

Best RM Games With Only Default Resources?

So I caught myself being slightly snobby in another thread and complaining about too many people using the same default RTP windowskin in VX Ace. That got me thinking: perhaps what I'm tired of isn't the RTP resources so much as the RTP resources being used poorly.

So I was curious: What are the best RPG Maker games (for any version) that use little to no custom resources (almost all RTP)? Can anyone give recommendations on games like that? And has there ever been a contest where everyone was forced to use purely RTP?

WYRM WARRIORS! Design a Dungeon!

Understood. If you'd like to send me what you've already done and either I or someone else can try to finish it, that'd be appreciated, if you're cool with that.

I will attempt to actually map the docks in the near future.

Excellent! Looking forward to see what you do!

[Poll] M.O.G. Multipart Event - pared down?

Good point. I hadn't considered measuring up the default to an eye-bleedingly bad ones. But if more well-done ones are made, then people have more to choose from, and we get more variety in games.

For example, you made a bunch of them yourself for VX Ace that are in the resource section. I'd personally rather use one of those (and I probably will soon :D ) than rely on the default one. I'm not going to fault anyone for using the default, as it's just a personal preference to see more variation.

[Poll] M.O.G. Multipart Event - pared down?

I think Windowskin should definitely be included. I really wish people would go out and at least find other windowskins rather than using the default all the time, (especially in Ace; I see this all the time).

I'm iffy on TitleScreen. On the one hand, each person is generally going to want something unique and/or specific for their game's title, but on the other you could make a lot of abstract or universal ones that might appeal to people.

Looking for helpers 2.0!

Have you considered cutting down the rest of the game? If you've already got 30-40 hours then you've got plenty of content already. Is it possible to get to a conclusion without adding a whole ten to twenty extra hours?
