What does RPGmaker.net think of anime?

Vegeta doesn't manage to stall Kid Buu because hes tough, at least not in the good sense of the word. He manages to stall him because Kid Buu has the attention span of, well, a kid; and he's is merely amused by tossing Vegeta around like a rag doll. This is the same Vegeta that was already no match for Fat Buu so that's no surprise. He's just a punching bag at this point...

And that's my main gripe with the series. Where Goku can always fight the bad guys at their same level, the other characters often can't. Sure they put on with a fight and throw a flashy energy beam or two, but at the end, their involvement can be summed up as "filler", specially later in the series. Up to half-way the Cell Saga I'd be inclined to agree that they all play an important role in the victory of the team, but not afterwards. After Cell becomes perfect even those mini Cells he shats could beat everyone with ease.

And the latest movie was essentially that. The bad guy just One-hit-KOs all the Z-fighters, while Goku is the only one who can take him on One-on-One, even without the "GOD" powers bestowed onto him by the rest of the Saiyans, because, pfft... "reasons". idk. whatever.

I'm glad there's no restrictions regarding the use of resources. I was worried all the assets had to be done from scratch since that seems to be one of the golas of "GameJams"? I'm don't know... I'm still a bit worried about this "theme" we're all waiting for, though. How flexible is it going to be? I know half the purpose of revealing a theme at a later date is so nobody gets a head start, but can't we just trust each other? I'm usually against "themes" in general because they tend to limit artistic freedom, and if that's the case here then I guess I'll have to drop out. But as long as it's nothing too specific then I suppose we can always work our ways around it.

Anyway, for some time now I've been wanting to make a zombie game (I'm not too fan of the genre, but ever since I started watching 'The Walking Dead' it has become kind of an itch of mine. xD) and I though an event like this may be the perfect opportunity to get that out of my system. So if anyone it's up to do something like that and the theme allows it, hit me up.

What does RPGmaker.net think of anime?

Yeah, anime, like Hollywood movies, is very formulaic, and also, very niche-y. That makes it almost pointless to watch more than one show in the same genre/topic because you know the vast majority of it it's going to be the same. And as such it's very difficult to spot animes that do new things... And it doesn't help the situation that whoever writes the descriptions for the shows probably makes them sound worse than they actually are. Because I swear to god, sometimes I don't even make it past the descriptions.

An all-time guilty-pleasure of mine is Dragon Ball Z. Something I hate about it is that it's all about Goku. Sure other characters get their time in the spotlight every now and then, but at the end of the day, Goku is the only one who can defeat the bad guy in turn. By the end of the series not even Vegeta is worth a damn. And my favorite character, Tenshinhan, the one with the most interesting techniques, doesn't even fight. And don't even get me started on the recent movies... Nice job, Akira Toriyama. Nice job. =|

Anyway, the last anime I was able to enjoy was Hanasaku Iroha. It was a bout a girl that goes to live with her Grand-mother who runs an INN, and who is also very strict. So the girl has to work very hard every day to be able to pull her weight and grow as a person. It was a nice down-to-earth, coming-of-age story that I could really relate to, unlike most of the stuff in the slice-of-life genre. It reminded me of an anime I used to watch as a kid: Candy Candy. =P If anyone knows more animes like this please let me know.

More recently, I had big hopes on Attack on Titan, but it turned out to be somewhat of a disappointment. At first I though it was going to be a series about human ingenuity in the face of hopeless adversity. But apparently, the 3D-maneuvering gear is the only display of creativity and technological prowess in the entire story. It's almost an OOPArt. Not to mention the stunts they pull-off with it are a bit too far-fetched for the "realistic" tone of the series... later the show becomes about mechas. Mechas made of flesh and bone but mechas nonetheless. And the protagonist with all that "fire" and conviction he showed on the first few episodes turned out to be just as useless as Shinji Ikari in Evangelion. And to make things worse, judging by the manga, the story is going to devolve into Political drama from now on. Don't take me wrong, political drama is better than most things, but not better than giant zombies, that I'm sure of. *sigh*

Btw. Talking about Japanese culture... How prominent are public baths, Hot Springs, and stuff like that in reality? Because I get it if a bath scene of a group of girls is just shoe-horned fan-service to appeal to your garden-variety kind of pervert. But what about, say, a father and son bath scene? Because I think I've seen those too. And unless those are crafted to appeal to a different kind of pervert *shudder* What's the point of animating scenes like that? Can't they have those interactions outside the baths????

What are you thinking about right now?

You guys worry about taking too long to post? Try writing in a language that is not your own, knowing that for every mistake you fix you'll probably introduce another one; not to mention the ones you didn't even notice to begin with... Sometimes I go over, and over, revising if what I'm typing makes sense, looking up entire phrases on google, or checking the spelling/definition of words on the dictionary -- that I even get page-snipped! And then I'm like "why bother anymore" and go cry myself to sleep. T_T

Non-existent skills: Scripting, Good Writing, Music/Sound creation.
Engines/Languages/framework preference: rm2k3, Ace Lite. =(
Prefer to work on: Something serious... relatable? Set in a "realistic" setting. Could be Sci-Fi or even Horror.
Prefer NOT to work on: Text Adventures, Visual Novels, High Fantasy, Nothing too crazy, corny, or preachy...
Comment: Fine! Don't take me out to dance. Someday I'll be the boss of the lot of you anyway.

I like this idea, but I think is "visually redundant" to have the character's full-body appear twice on the screen. Specially if the character doesn't move... If that blue square in the upper-left side of the screen is the cursor. Then I think it's silly for the character to be commenting on something that it's outside of its field of vision. So at least make it appear to be in the same room as the object in question, or just get ride of it completely, and maybe leave the big sprite as a fixed element on the screen instead.

Decided to start working on my old RM game Revelations. Will be rolling out mrs material soon but just a refresher.

Hmm... You said the same thing the last time you showed up. I hope this time is for real. You're one of the best rtp mappers out there.

Well, it is often said that everybody wants to be the "ideas man". Letting the "top-dogs" work as "consultants", would allow them to help everybody at a minimum effort. If they desire to get more involved then I suppose they could, but ideally, people in the upper tiers should help the most teams as possible... This is so less people get to resent they didn't get to team up with their rmn crushes. Considering that's what sparked interest in this event I thought it was important to consider.

But anyway, it's not like I'm too invested on this idea or anything. So if its true that we're all big boys and girls, then I'm game too.

Another thing to consider, however, is what Rpg Maker to use? I'm afraid, ultimately, teams will have to be made around that. xD

McBacon Jam

Yeah, I was curious about how this whole thing would be set up. I definitively prefer the idea of having balanced teams over pairs/trios or whatever. And making teams at random with the hopes that you get to team up up with the people that you like seems like the way to go. But from what I gather from the previous thread, some people have more "demand" than others...

So I was thinking, why not make tiers? Let the more popular people work as "consultants" for all the teams. This way we can all benefit from their input without straining them too much. Then maybe have a second tier of people that can help two-three teams at once doing small stuff that they feel they're good at. And finally the third tier (us commoners) would be the ones responsible of actually giving shape to these games... Uhm, Am I making any sense here? I feel in this way we can learn the most from each other.

What do you guys think?

Bun-Bo's Christmas Adventure!

Brilliant indeed! Yeah, PC may be nonsense, but making asses of each other is no better. CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG!!!??

But seriously though, I can't wait for the next pass-off comic to begin. =P

I loved working with AE and would again (one day I will finish those games or at least use that art I promise! ;^;). For some reason he really gets my characters and he's a great artist. <3

Also, I like that gamejam idea. I too would like to team up with some of our resident celebrities sometime, but the chances of that happening may be slim to none if not for an opportunity like this. How would it work out, though? By setting up teams or something? ...The things I could bring to the table are Concept Art and Graphic Design in general. And I would prefer to work on something serious, horror, or sci-fi, but I'm down for anything. So, if anybody needs an "artist", you can count with me.
