What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?
THIS! The Samurai Pizza Cats game. Aw, yeah! This game never came out from Japan so I can only enjoy it now thanks to emulation and fan translations. But I would have loved to play this as a kid. Not only because I was fan of the show, but because this is the kind of game my kid self would have been able to beat. The game is painfully easy, but the controls are very tight (I wish Ninja Gaiden played like this) so is worth a shot if you like cats, pizza, or samurais... And let's be honest. Who doesn't love those things? :3
What are you thinking about right now?
So apparently I lost right at the beginning of the Battledome, for not paying attention to the rmn happenings for the past few weeks. I remember Dudesoft sending me a PM but I completely forgot about it afterwards. And more recently I missed that Valentine's day dating sim game or whatever it was... You people should not run more than one event at the same time.
Also, my character had a PowerGlove. How could he lose? Haven't you guys heard how 'BAD' the PowerGlove is? ...Oh.

*sigh* There's so much I'd like to weight on about this, but I don't feel like wasting my time going point after point about it. It's clear everybody has their mind sets on this matter already regardless of what arguments other people may come up with. Even if they can "sort off" admit it that there's nuance, that we don't know all that transpired in any given situation or another, that at the end there needs to be an understanding, blah, blah, blah, they're quick to return to their side of the ring. Like, WTF? Is objectivity really that hard to exercise?

Anyway. I've been thinking about this whole harassment issue, and how could it be tackled. Because, yes, harassment, the true kind, is an issue. And both sides can agree to that, I assure you... But I can't seem to think of any other way to address this, except by putting more money on police departments to track down all those threats, doxxings, and whatnot. But then I think about the possible unintended ramifications of that. If the police showing up at your door at random and shooting your dog is a facet of said problem, wouldn't giving more power to the police help exacerbate it to some degree? Kinda like with the war on drugs. Thoroughly ineffective from what I hear.

[Poll] Would it be sexist to have different starting stats based on your character's selected gender?
Yes and no. I guess by definition alone some could argue that it is indeed sexist. But I think the implications of the word are too severe for something so trivial at the stats distribution in a game. I would simply call it "tropey", or 'lazy' at worst, but nothing nefarious like that. It would also depend of what kind of game you're aiming for and how flexible the system ends up being; A lighthearted game could easily "get away" (ugh) with this, but If you're aiming for a more serious game, then the more complexity you put into it, the better... And like other have said, as long as you can play as whatever you want and still have the possibility to be good at it, you should be fine. I would see it as challenge to build an Orc mage that can go toe to toe with all other units regardless of class, race or gender.
But don't worry too much about this. When people want an excuse to be mad at something, they'll even get mad at their own shadows.

Well, I have nothing against an initiative like this no matter who it comes from, as long as it's an honest one. For people out there who receives real online harassment and their quality of life is actually having a negative impact because of it, a service like this can be very helpful.
That being said. The 'SJW' definition of harassment can be as petty as: "Someone said mean things to me." at best, and "Someone who I didn't spoke to first, spoke to me." at worst. Which is something that they can easily fix by blocking people or disallowing comments. And that's exactly what they do, and they do so unapologetically because the very idea of people with different ("bad") opinions is an affront to them. And I understand even this can get annoying, but this is not the type of harassment that the word: "survivor" should be associated with.
But anyway, I hope this is just my own cynicism trying to get the best of me. I hope this is truly an effort to help people who are genuinely at risk, or have been threatened/doxxed and don't know how to proceed, legally or otherwise; No matter what side of the fence they're on.
PS: Max, you're such an ASJWW. xD

And, in the end, I absolutely want to minimize the time spent arguing on the internet. But in spite of that I can't bring myself to just continuously smile and nod in the face of positions and attitudes I find pretty abhorrent: doing so feels ethically lax.
"It's about ethics in rmn posts."
Also, Geez! You almost sound like a SJW yourself, just change "abhorrent" for "problematic" up there. Haha! ...All joking aside. I understand where you are coming from, but I don't feel nearly as 'strongly' about it as you do. Most of the "positions and attitudes" that you refer to can be easily brushed off as: "Shit people say". Sometimes people make poor choices of words that they would be happy to correct, or they simply don't care about it and just want to vent a little. Other times they assume everyone will automatically understand the nuance in the points they're trying to make. And yet other times they're just being facetious or are flat out trolling. I'd be more concerned if those "positions and attitudes" came up in the midst of a more 'serious' discussion and not here in Welp.
[Poll] When Playing Indie RPGs, What Game-Length Do You Look For?
I voted for 5 to 10. Although, I never seek games based on their length. Any game I donwload and play either looks very good or people talk a lot about them for some reason. So instead I interpreted the question as: "How much time you'd be willing to spend playing a game".
Now, for Plataformers, Action games, and such; games that tend not to be as story-centric as RPGs, I'd be willing to spend up to 5 hours of "in-game clock" time. In reality it would probably be a bit more than that counting all the times I died and had to reload or something. That's probably 2 to 3 play sessions (days) for me...
As for RPGs or other narrative-heavy games, I'd be willing to roughly double that amount of time. So make that 10 hours or up to a week. If the game is really good then I'll probably play it past that point, but chances are that's not going to be the case. In my experience, most games on theindie amateur scene that tout themselves to be hours and hours long, include silly stuff like: a fishing minigame, chocobo racing, monster hunting/collecting, and shit like that. No thanks.

RMN JANUARY 2015: HAPPY NEW YEAR
So it seems this year will have a lot in store for us, right? right? xP ...Hopefully it will. It would be nice to see Games and merchandise being sold directly on-site. I propose we make a t-shirt design contest to build up hype for this feature. Maybe in the future we could even use makerscore to buy stuff (Like DeviantArt points) and only then will makerscore be life. xD
Another topic that got me excited was the possibility of another Rpg Maker coming out this year. I've titillating with other engines (Construct, Unity) but if a new Rpg Maker that was the love-child of Ace and Rm2k3 (And maybe IG Maker, because they're poly-amorous like that >_>;) would come out, I would be set for life. But I'm probably expecting too much from Enterbrain.
Personally, what I'd like to see this year is the implementation or at least and update on the "Give your impression" system, meant to work as a complement for reviews... As well as a more robust review system overall. There has been lots of suggestions over the years like: Review categories, or Not rating demos, etc. That we're long overdue to give proper consideration.
Anyway, I really enjoyed this podcast. You guys (gals?) should try to do this more often. =P
