So apparently, freedom of speech is a "centrist" ideology now. Heh; I've heard worse, I just find odd to see that here. But come to think of it. That's really nothing new/shocking when you put it next to: "words/ideas/games are problematic/harmful/get people killed" which are very popular beliefs around here... on a creative community, of all places... for god knows what reason.... But that begs the question. Is the average rmn denizen becoming more, would you say... "radical"? ;) Ah! "Progress".

In other news. Poor LockeZ, he gets so misunderstood. Sometimes I just want to hug him and make games with him forever. <3

It's silly, considering that he's not exactly the most heinous of dictators the world has ever seen. He's not even the one who killed the most people. He just had a much better PR team (or much worse, considering the others were all swept under the rug and all).

I don't see people using, say, Ghengis Khan as an example instead. Nope, always with the Hitler. :/

"And the truth floweth forth. #Gamergate"

Quasi-serious response: Yeah, in this day and age of polarizing opinions. If you allow yourself to have any nuance on any controversial topic, you'll be made out to be like: "the worst of the worst". Be it with the "nazi" card, the "gamergate" card, the "sinful" card, the "evil" card, the "toxic" card, you name it. But yet, there doesn't seems to be a *click* on people's heads for them to realize they're engaging on pretty much the exact kind of behavior, when they complain about other's, and point their fingers at them. *shrug*

Now you don't have to. =)

Edit: @Liberty
Oh, c'mon. That's the "joke"!

*Sigh* They no longer make awesome music/videos like these anymore...

April 2015 Podcast: RM2k3 Officially in English!

Haha! That melodious "alteregooo~" is going to be my new ringtone or something. %P ...Also, I vote for Dungeon Crawl! o/

The official English 2k3 version is out!

Mmhh. Sounds good, but, I don't have this 'Steam' thing -I'm not much of a PC gamer and I'm not sure what the payment options may be in my country- so I don't know if it's worth getting it just to clear my conscience over pirating an ancient piece of software... Then again, maybe I can revive Nightfall without feeling -as- guilty now. I was planning on going full VX Ace eventually (Or whatever the next rpg maker might be) but at the same time, I had put a decent amount of work in the rm2k3 version already. xP

No, seriously, what's the next rpg maker gonna be? Is it really coming out before 2016 like that timeline in the video seems to hint?

C'mon, you, people on the inside; spill the beans!! *shakesfist*

What are you thinking about right now?

I think there's a very important distinction to make between "childish" and "childlike" behaviors. Keeping in touch with your "inner-child" so to speak, like, enjoying things we used to enjoy when we were younger, is a good thing imo. But acting in any way "immature-ish" is not; and that's what the word "childish" usually refers to... So, let's not conflate those things.

Now, the thing about words like "gross" is that -- Well, let's just keep in mind that we all develop somewhat of an aversion towards words we predominantly see being used among groups of people that we may be in disagreement with. "Gross" is like the kind of "bad word" that a child could get away with using without being scolded. But when people -adults- who use this word, do so in the same breath that they berate you such nasty ways like calling you a "disgusting sack of human garbage" or whatever (I've been there. xD), you kinda have to wonder what kind of mental hang-up is in place to allow for such disparaging combination of words. =)

The Here and Now of Yesterday Review

And the chapel was never meant to be the hub...

I worded that poorly, I guess. The Chapel was probably never meant to be a hub by you, but that was the idea I had. xD I remember discussing this with you, but then we lost contact, so... =( Another bit of trivia is that I had the impression the Chapel would be above ground, that's why there's natural light coming from the windows; but it ended up being underground somehow. =P

Anyway, I checked the game and all my fixes are there, so I don't know what happened... The review seems fair either way so, it's alright.

The Here and Now of Yesterday Review

...in a later scene you have to enter and re-enter a building multiple times to activate certain scenes. That’s bad design...

Yes and no. Well, yes. Haha! I think I've already explained this somewhere before? I don't recall exactly. But the thing is that at first the idea was for the Chapel to be some kind of central HUB, and for the story to be optional. There's even a save point chucked away in one of the events for this purpose. Naturally, if it was a map that the player had to visit often in order to save, eventually, they'd get to see some or all of the story... But at the end things developed in a different way. =P

That being said, I'm 1000% sure I had already fixed the random nature of the cut-scenes. Now they would trigger just by re-entering the rooms once. (And I even made the solution for the codes a lot easier) Are you sure you played the latest version of the game? ...Mmh, there was a download titled: "SRW update" where all of that was fixed, but I see it's gone now. I guess I could go in a fix it again, but I guess I've already made it into the hall of game design infamy anyway.

-_-

Dragon_Wang.png

Also, based on the picture's title I was expecting something much different.

I thought that was the joke (*Gasp*). C'mon, "Dragon Wang" sets a 'funny' mental image. Don't change the name... =/

Regarding the other thing. I think there's a strand of legitimate criticism hidden in all the "peer-pressure-ing" of the last several posts. It is indeed more difficult to 'get' what a character is saying when they have a modified speech patterns in the form of written text than when you're actually listening to them speaking. I remember I hated this in Chrono Cross because I had to constantly 'adjust' back and forth from one character to another, because nearly every one of the 30+ characters in the game had their own quirky speech issues... Is mostly just a mild inconvenience thing for players. But as long as you don't overdo it, you should be fine.

Ironically enough, here's an idea. Don't have every person in this town/restaurant speak in the exact same way. Have some people have a pronounced accent, and others have a more 'normalized' accent. You could explain this within the game's lore in a number of ways. Maybe in recent years people travel around the world a lot more, making the younger generations more exposed to foreign accents; while older people, people with less 'flexible' ways, retain their original tick accents. idk... This way you get to keep this different dialects thing, and the same time, reasonably address some of the concerns people have brought up here.

Drama hidden, because, drama.
"It's 2015. You don't think that maybe, just maybe, Dragon Wang isn't a good idea?"

It could be the year XXXX for all that matters. The number of ways you could objectively claim what he's doing is somehow "bad" are next to none, and even then, most people would not care. I'm willing to bet that even most Asian people would not take issue over something so trivial... I respect the way you think, but do not pretend everybody is/should be on the same page about this.

"The problem with this in particular is because there have been about a million jokes..."

Is there like a quota for these things or something? How many more jokes about an Irish or a German accent, or whatever, do we have to make for things to even out, so it's finally Ok to poke light fun at an Asian accent again? ...And yes, SOME people will always take some things the wrong way. *stares* But that's true for everything, and it's hardly any reason to stop doing anything we do. Nor is a particularly insightful critique to bring to the table. The truth is that the vast majority of people would just see a silly joke and move on.
