Am I a bad person?
Well, I don't know you, but I'd still be inclined to say: "No". However isn't this like the second time you bring this up? What exactly are you trying to convince yourself of here? Have you been drinking "guilt by association" Kool-Aid by any chance? That stuff is not good, man... Just take care of yourself. And BE yourself. That's all you need to do. =P
What are you thinking about right now?
Holy shit. I don't know about feeling confused or sad, but I think I know what you're talking about. That's something I actually miss a lot. Being able to fall asleep and waking up hours later, but feeling like if you just closed your eyes for a few moments. That happened to me a lot when I was a kid, but lost the ability to do it as I became an adult... Welp! NOW I'm sad. u_u
Edit: Ok, so maybe it's not the same thing, but it's similar? I think it has to do with how we become aware of time as we grow up.

Just to clarify a quote of mine posted above. I was referring to Max's "first contributions to this thread". When he was on-topic. Talking about how he approaches writing characters, and making some questions about the language used. That's all. I still maintain it was not cool to threaten him to be expelled from the discussion before he did anything wrong. And I don't see how me pointing that out is "jumping to the extreme ends of censorship" or anything. That did happen. I didn't make it up.

Anyway, I re-read YM's post, and I understand now why Solitayre took issue with it (I missed a crucial detail the first time I read it). My bad... He's probably still reading too much into it, though. I doubt anybody thinks he's going to start banning people left and right. Only that if enough people keep pushing for this "rules of engagement" thing, it could become a reality. In a world where interest groups can put enough pressure in order to have someone banned from a social media platform, all the way up to be barred entry to a country, I don't think that's too irrational a concern to have, is it? xP ...If he says that's not going to happen here, then that's cool. But then I have to wonder how exactly are the rules going to change, in a way that is satisfactory for those asking for said changes. =P

Why would Solitayre take issue with what YM said, when YM was quoting WetMattos, who is clearly arguing for "Rules of engagement"?
Also can we please, pretty please, drop the facade that labels like 'SJW' or 'Tumblr' are "code" to insult people? Perhaps they are meant that way when somebody is being singled out, or ganged up upon. But for the most part, people use labels or talk in abstract terms in order to convey ideas more easily. If you're going to start cracking down on that, could you at least do so all across the board? Because is not like the other side is above making remarks about "Reddit", "MRAs", "Conservatives" and a long list of etceteras.
But preferably, let's not do any of that? The rules are fine as they are. The best solution for speech you don't like is more speech, not less.

Well, if you don't want people coming to "shit up" discussion, then maybe don't name-drop them? ...Look, if I'm being sincerely honest, I don't care what you believe. I don't care how many of you believe it. And I'd be more than happy to leave you the fuck alone to circle-jerk all day about it (In fact, that was my plan at the beginning of this thread, but eventually enough dumb things were said for me to want to pitch in) if only you were to leave other people the fuck alone. But I have no guarantee of that happening.
I can't really speak for anyone else here, but I'd say we don't want to shut down discussion, we want it to be re-framed in a way that does not give you license to boss people around, telling them what they can or cannot do or say, what is or what is not "acceptable" in 2015, which is the right hill to "go die on", or what makes a "decent" human being, and so on and so forth...
There's plenty of room to talk about representation in videogames without going to the extremes. For example, I'm Hispanic, and I would like to see more Hispanic characters in games, that go beyond the a)Drug dealer, b)Mariachi/Bandido c)Lucha Libre wrestler, and my favorite d)Aztec warrior... That alone is enough to spark interesting, meaningful discussions. But to go on a tirade of: "Ugh! Yet another white character, you're supporting white-supremacy, you'll get brown people killed everywhere!" Is not a very productive approach -to say the least- given the difference of opinions that is bound to happen on any -open to the public- space like this.
Face it, as long as you mix your "progressive" ideas with game development, threads like these remain of public interest. And discussion like these can pop up anywhere; anything and anyone can get the ball rolling... What's going to happen the day a heated discussion like this one occurs not on a dedicated thread, but on a non-dedicated thread like the "What are you thinking about" thread? Or in an article? Or a review? Are you going to "kick out" people from their own game-pages, so others don't feel "unsafe" and can have their ideas go unchallenged? I wonder how far could the administration of this forum let this rabbit hole go eventually.
What bothers me the most is how people keep saying they feel unwelcome, when no one is telling them: "You're not welcome here". I even urged the OP not to give up videogames because I can empathize with her at that level. Yet people in this thread are telling me and others: "You're not welcome here", almost verbatim. Some even calling for mass-bans... Go figure.

I don't know. In a situation like that, anyone remotely credible would be promptly dealt whit, one way or another (If it was me, I would happily shut up in exchange of one of those first row seats in the moon. screw you, guys). And every other nobody would be dismissed as a loon, of which there are plenty already. Who's to say they are not onto something as we speak? xD I think a "country killer" impact would be easily swept under the rug, specially if said country had no hope to handle that themselves. Better to deal with a crisis like that later rather than before. That way at least you'll have a few million people less to worry about. They could always avoid responsibility by claiming lack of resources to properly monitor space or something, earning themselves more money, and thus, more power.
So what I am really saying here is, be kind to flower girls, you never know if one of them could end up saving the world. =P
The official English 2k3 version is out!
Sorry for barging in. I haven't read every post on this thread, but I believe early on it was said that making this version compatible with dynRPG was a possibility? Considering there has been several updates so far, I was wondering if that option was still on the table. Because with that, and now the ability to use a map as a custom title screen, I'm tempted to make the jump.

I'd say that "stereotyping" is not that bad a thing, though. Stereotyping, or even racial profiling, can be very useful tools. The problem, as with most everything, is how far is taken... And nothing bad happened in this case so I don't get what the commotion is about. I know nothing about bombs, and chances are your average teacher or even cop does either, so I can't really blame people for erring on the side of caution. The kid being arrested and all is just standard procedure, isn't it? It's not like he was held for days against his will or anything. Perhaps is not the best way to handle things, specially when dealing with kids, but it's hardly an injustice.
If anything, this is part of a different and much larger problem. I hear stories like these all the time: A kid made a "gun" gesture, or was wearing the "wrong" t-shirt, or said a "bad" word, or whatever the fuck else, and all of a sudden the kid gets suspended and/or the police gets involved. But the internet does not have a spaz each and every time this happens. =P

Talking about injuries as a kid. I once landed on a nail jumping from the second story of an abandoned house. It didn't really hurt. But I had to go hoping back home because I couldn't take the nail out myself, or take my foot out of the shoe. My mom freaked out and I had to get a tetanus shot. Not too long after that I got my first console... Make of that what you will. xD
Edit: Alright then, I stand corrected. I can understand an arrest as long as its done by the book, but if you cut corners that's fucked up.
