Description

What're We Cooking?

A full game cooked up in two weeks (and a weekend)! The cookoff begins on February 1st and wraps up on February 17th where all games must be submitted before the end of the day. Check the event page (and your account's timezone) to see when the event ends in your local time.

The Kitchen Suite

The tool of choice is RPG Maker VX Ace Lite! It is the free but feature limited version of RPG Maker VX Ace. The restrictions of Ace Lite are as follows:

Maximum Database Entries
  • 10 Actors
  • 10 Classes
  • 126 Skills
  • 16 Items
  • 60 Weapons
  • 60 Armors
  • 30 Enemies
  • 30 Troops
  • 25 States
  • 110 Animations
  • 4 Tilesets
  • 10 Common events
  • 100 Switches
  • 100 Variables
  • There are no other database restrictions

Map & Event Limitations
  • 20 Maps
  • 10 Events per map
  • Call Common Event is disabled

Script Limitations
  • The script editor is disabled.
  • The 'Script' event command is disabled. Other script commands in Assign Variable, Condition Branch, and Move Event are still enabled.

These are strictly implementation restrictions that you are free to work around. Need more than sixteen items? Make your key items weapons nobody can equip! Want more than ten playable characters? Perhaps when one leaves the party you could overwrite its name and stats with your new character! Twenty five troops too limiting? Make a troop that adds random enemies via battle events!

Please note: While it is possible to add your own scripts to a game through devious means the spirit of the Ace Lite restriction rules in this contest. Injecting scripts is not allowed beyond using the enabled script calls for their intended purposes. Of course changing the database caps through other means is also right out. Any game found violating these restrictions will be disqualified.

You can download RPG Maker VX Ace Lite here.

If you want to see what you can do under such restrictions Deckiller has made a game in Ace Lite called Kolmesarta. Feel free to check it out!

Your Ingredients!

Everything in the kitchen is allowed! There is no theme to the cook off besides obeying the restrictions of Ace Lite. There are no resource limitations for this contest as Ace Lite does not restrict what you can import into your game. Whip out the spice rack! Prepare the vegetables! Go hog wild! It's a free for all!

Nobody wants a half baked morsel though. The only requirement beyond using RPG Maker VX Ace Lite is that the game must be complete. Only finished games are wanted here!

For the Tastiest of Them All

We've got four judges reuniting to sample the delicacies of all participants: The RTP Princess Liberty, The Amazing Artist Nessiah, the Makerscore Master Deckiller, and the Ludicrously Lazy GreatRedSpirit! Their number one game will received a boxed copy of RPG Maker VX Ace generously donated by Liberty! The lead developer of the winning game will be contacted by Liberty to make shipping arrangements.

That isn't the only prize though! After submissions are closed there will also be a two week voting phase for all members of RMN to vote for their favorite game! Voting will be open from February 18th to March 11th. The winner will receive their choice of any item excluding RPG Maker VX Ace from the RPGMakerWeb.com store courtesy of RPGMakerWeb!

There is always the achievement badge for participating too! One of a kind will not be made available again! Submit to that completionist tingle and take part!

All enemies in game...Now need to assign them to maps and ensure damage and HP and stuff is good...@_@

Intro and intro boss are fine. I think my skills are fine. Just need to do monsters now...and make sure my bosses' strategies work as planned.

...My teachers had better not avalanche me in work for this week. If they do, then towns will have to literally be "walk in, get options to sleep or buy stuff". >_< And I don't want that.
Just to clarify, we can use the script command in conditional Branches, Move Routes, and the assign variable page?

Also, my partner doesn't have an account on any of the RPG maker websites, can I still add him?

EDIT:
Regarding script calls...se them to modify the player (can/can't run, stats, name, etc), but not to modify the skills or weapons or anything that would break the limit, correct?
The person has to be registered as a user on RMN for you to be able to add them to the gameprofile.

Script calls have to be related to where they're being called. An assign variable call script is intended to calculate something and store it in a variable, not to modify an actor's skills for example. The ruling is to use script calls for their intended purpose because of how abusable eval is. Lite isn't intended to have anything beyond bare bones scripting capabilities and that's the spirit we're following for this.

(Will be changing projectile graphic soon to fit RTP.)

It's a game about Libby who bakes and throws cherry pie in order to genderbend men. In-jokes are weird.. and so very, very creepy. Maybe there's a good reason for why I don't have any of this done at all..

There will be deadly AUSTRALIAN spiders and MAN-EATING TREES, as I'm told they are realistic enemies in upside-down-world.

It's like she never runs out of pies...
That is the power of the cherry pie. I'd show the pictures that netted me the lead role in that game but it's very much NSFW... very very much so. >.<;

Just don't worry about it. It's a personal joke... thing... of a kind.

Uh, progress? I stayed up all night (gotta make up the time I took being sick somehow) and started eventing stuff. Got the Flares done, which light up the area or serve as a battle item, as well as some treasures and teleporting. Still have to do a lot of mapping (though I can cut some of it out if need be) and the monsters/battles. Yey...

Yes, yes, ellipses all over the place. It's being reworked a little. >.<;
Edit:Problem Solved, silly me
I have laughed too much at this.

Oh! I like the look of this. Grisly indeed!

And....There's....nothing....well...WRONG with using lots of...dotdotdot's...Right?

Progress: Main boss 1 has strategy set up. And is somewhat balanced, although I'll need to playtest it in game to see about what level you should be when you get to him.

And...I've hit a major issue with my skills. They're TOO good...Particularly the main hero. I'll need to rethink at least one of his skills, possibly two, because as it is, the boss fight feels like this sometimes: "Boss activates counter! Hero BREAKS COUNTER! Boss is low HP, HASTE MODE GOOOOOOOOHMYGOSH THE HERO BROKE THAT TOO!" ;_;
They're called ellipses and I will be editing that piece thanks to people pointing out the over-abundance of them. I do love me some ellipses, though. Time to break out the em-dashes, I guess. :<

Me too. I use them a bit too much sometimes as well. XD

Oh, and I think I managed to salvage my main character's battle system.

Switched up the functions of two of his skills, made one of them a DEF debuff rather than a defense shatter, and made my "destroy all buffs" not break haste, and have only a chance at breaking counter. If it's still too broken, I'll have to nix breaking counter..... >_> Which is lame.

EDIT: The reason making is a DEF debuff is so good is because you will WANT to use it whenever you can. Making you go "ooohhh...I want to debuff him, but what if I need stun/remove-buffs-and-counter next turn? If I use the debuff now...I won't be able to stun...". Which should help make the solution to all problems not just be "just stun the SOB".
How do I prevent formation changes? I need the front hero to be fixed.

You can't. You're using Lite.

You could force the player into the menu if the hero isn't in the main party, but... why?
Cause the story has a main character, and it's totally weird if a secondary party member appear as the walking sprite. I'm not a big fan of the caterpillar either.
