Wow, I didn't know game mechanics can be patented.

From what (little) I understand of patents, what can be patented is the method of doing something, not the result itself. For example, let's say that you discover the number 10 by adding 5+5; that's your patent. However it is also possible get to 10 by adding 6+4, or 1+1+1..., etc. Those patents are up for grabs for whoever figures them out. Probably, the issue here is that programming for consoles, devs are working with the same tools, tools that they don't always fully understand, and so the ways to do things may be limited.

Also, I think you can trademark colors in relation to products. For example, if a chocolate company wants to use the same color as another in their packaging, they couldn't because of brand recognition (Well, they could, but they would have to pay, just like with patents). But if they sold any other kind of product, they could use that color without a problem. It would even be wise to trademark that for themselves before anyone else beats them to it... I remember some shoe company trademarked having red soles in their footwear.

Yeah, it's nuts. xD

Figures. Liberty couldn't get away with creating a new thread, so now she's going to mess with the title of this one...

THIS IS HER REVENGE!

Seriously though. I don't get the reference. Wasn't the original phrase: "Watcha talkin' bout, WILLIS"?

Edit: Ninjaed ¬¬;

Mogspective: Final Fantasy V

Now the Chicken Knife scales simply based on the number of times you run away which is great since you can just flee from random encounters without penalty.

Speak for yourself. I always get the Brave Blade.

Derivative Works in Game Making

To my understanding, "Non-deriv" in CC licenses means that you cannot modify the assets in question. Let's say that you have a track but you don't like the intro, or it doesn't loop correctly. If you go into an editing software and cut the intro off, or make it loop right, the resulting file is not the same as the one you downloaded; It's a derivative. You can't do that. You have to use the assets as they are, or not use them at all... Alternatively, try to reach out the author and ask them about it. Maybe the can do it for you, or something.

I now regret not having banned Mafia a little...

I warned you but you didn't listen.jpg It didn't have to be this way.jpg This is the future you chose.jpg

Seriously, though, I guess what tukeyDawg and others are suggesting (and I agree with) is for the ability to filter the latest post section by categories: Images/reviews/statuses, etc. Or even by forums: Design & Develpment/Creative corner/Welp... If you use the latest post section, you already do this "by eye". It's only that it becomes more difficult when pages upon pages are about the same topic. Not necessarily mafia, but yes, mafia... Being able to tick content on and off on the fly would be cool.

How difficult would it be to implement something like that, though, is another ballgame altogether. But not too difficult, hopefully...

Programming cutscenes is probably the most tedious part of gam mak for me. I don't know how some devs do it.

For me the problem lies with the writing itself (Screen-writing? Or whatever the term would be). Because once you have a definitive idea of how a cut-scene is going to play out, all is left is: "move char left, move char right, wait, show text", etc. Yeah, it it takes time to get it right, but it's not a big deal... The problem is when the script changes and it throws everything off. As your story and characters grow and evolve, you're bound to re-visit past work in order to bring it all together. Over an over again. THAT'S what's tedious.

What would RMN theme song sound like?

Something New-Age-y and World-ly. With some cool choirs maybe. You know, because we're from all around the globe and stuff.

Anticipated (or not) movies of 2016

A younger me would be thrilled with an Apocalypse or Thanos movies since they're my second and third favorite Marvel villains. But I'm so tired of super hero movies at this point. They're a lot of fluff with not very much meat to them. (Although I guess you could say the same of most Hollywood movies.) For example, the Iron Man movies. I want to see Iron Man kicking ass, not goofing around. Nor do I want to see a close-up of Robert Downey Jr's ugly mug on the screen going blah blah blah most of the time. Can the guy even act well? I swear he just talks... Heh; Maybe it's just me. Maybe when they do an Onslaught movie I'll stop caring and go see it.

One movie I'm been waiting for forever is Jeepers Creepers 3. I'm not much into Slasher movies (everyone dies, big whoop). But the second-half + ending of Jeepers Creepers 2 was so badass that I've been waiting for the sequel ever since. Finally someone gears up and puts up a fight... However they keep pushing the movie back year after year. Hopefully not this time.

Also this one, But now I wonder if the trailer was even real or just a concept. =(

I don't want to argue with people regarding the amount of playtime someone "needs" to make to write a review of a game... AGAIN. -_-

You're just messing with me at this point. :<

What are you thinking about right now?

Say what you will, buy I've always wanted to see a remake of the CDi Zelda games. Getting the real thing is too expensive/pointless, and I don't think they're even possible to emulate(?) ...Just fix the bugs and release it. Leave the animations as they were. I think they're endearing in 2D. The 3D kinda ruins their charm. (I know this ain't real, but one can dream. xP)
