What are you thinking about right now?

What always impresses me about my dreams is when I pick up a book and read something.

For my brain to simulate a room, and come up with prose while I am reading it seems astounding to me.

Uh. Funny. I cannot read in my dreams. I can come up with all sort of crazy and detailed stuff, and sure I can read small things like single sentences and the like. But if I look at a large body of text I just see fuzzy lines. I often struggle trying to make out the words in it, but it's very difficult, and very frustrating too... I wonder why that is. xP

Just Do It! - Anti-Procrastination Initiative

Got caught up with other stuff but I barely made it. I'll prolly review the colors at a later date, but for the time being this ought to do.

Next goal: Draw some charasets.

Ex-Religion People of RMN - What did you leave, Why did you leave, and how has it affected you?

Basically I hate being guilt-tripped, so after I was done with the sacraments thing and "saved my soul", I bailed. After that I found out things like Jainism and Taoism were more like my jam, but eventually I left that behind as well. I still consider myself a Deist(?) or "spiritual" or whatever, but I'm done with religion... No hatin' Most of my family are still religious.

It hasn't really affected me much. Living in a overly Catholic country it can be quite an issue, specially in some areas. But most people in my immediate circles are fine with it. At most I get into awkward conversations when I have to explain to them why I won't assist to their wedding/christening/whatever... One thing I miss about going to church though, is that some churches are really pretty/eerie. Specially the old ones from colonial times. It's like stepping into a Castlevania game. O.o

I'm definitely not in favor of policing what opinions people are allowed to have.

Cute... Ok, first of all, the whole "we ask people to justify their score" is kind of a cop-out. Because the reason it's always some contrived personal reason. "The game is too hard for me, too offensive, too something". Ok, I'm glad you feel this strongly about this particular issue, but what do you think about the graphics? What do you think about the music? Is it good or bad? And if you think this and this and this is good and only this one thing is bad, why the low score? Your conclusion is not supported by your thesis.

I don't want to "police what opinions people are allowed to have". I want them to build upon those opinions. The hope is that by encouraging people to the walk the extra mile it may be easier for them to step back from bias and rate games fairly... The only risk there is would be someone saying: "Why bother? I'd rather not submit a review at all" but who would be that petty?

That big wall of text doesn't negate the fact that this is an opinion piece and not a review. You don't talk about the systems, the gameplay, the music, the graphics or anything else that makes up the game bar the writing parts you didn't like. You rate the game based solely on one aspect instead of the whole and that really grinds my gears most of all.

^ And the funny thing is that I think many of us can see that there's some sort of a problem there. So why the apologetics? Why not try to address it instead? ...For example, are low rated games still being played? Well of course. But low rated games are less visible than higher rated ones. And with less views, less potential downloads. Now, is the rating unfair? If it is, we can fix that. All I'm saying is let's be more diligent than we're being right now. It may be small potatoes, but the solution is very affordable as well.

But whatever.

Incentives for reviewing commercial games.

The idea doesn't sound too bad to me. In principle I'm all for anything improving the quality of reviews. But we've seen this countless times. No matter how much people insist the system is working as intended. When some rando can be given a pass hating on your game and giving it a low score, to give them even more MS after that would seem like rewarding bad behavior.

I don't think the solution has anything to do with "profesional standards" whatever that means. (Usually, these sort of discussion seem to hang in the balance between perceived hobbyism vs elitism. Let's not do that here for the umpteenth time). I think it suffices with making sure reviews actually have content, instead on settling on some arbitrary word count, or some vague mantra...

The "reviews are just opinion anyway" or the "these are my experiences playing the game" approaches are not fit for this goal. I don't care about your feelings and/or your political/ideological leanings. Not that you can't make room for those things in a review, but I care more about information. This is specially true when talking about commercial games. I want to know if a game is worth my hard-earned, almost non-existant money. And in order to make an important decision like that, I need to be informed broadly.

There are many reviews on the site that fit this criteria, so it's not like we amateurs can't do it. I understand that this is a place for learning, and everyone needs to start somewhere, and all that jazz. But we really need to get our act together.

You have a go to? (A thing that you go to in times of need)

I usually find myself coming back to New Age-ish music, particularly Enigma, anytime I need to focus or relax; nothing too serious... As for videogames: DOOM. Just crank the volume up and enjoy the rocking tunes. Seriously, every sound effect, every sprite, every everything in that game is perfection. It may sound weird, but to me it's almost therapeutic.

What are you thinking about right now?

Oh no. Another Mafia game. Well I guess this can to keep me away long enough to focus on the procrastination initiative...

ANTI-procrastination initiative, I mean. hehe

Just Do It! - Anti-Procrastination Initiative

Tempted to do this. It's the weekend, so it's my allotted "stare at rpg maker and or photoshop and do nothing" time anyway, so why not? ...Do I get anything if I try very hard but don't get anything done? A badge with a sad turtle on it and worth 0 makerscore maybe? (I would actually not do anything just to get my hands on a badge like that. xD)

First goal: Draw a backdrop.

Xoe Cooks

Yeah, those don't look at all like the chilaquiles I'm used to. But hey, if you like your chilaquiles crispy, go for it... Personally, I'm kinda curious about American Mexican food. I want to try one of those "hard-shell" tacos that I hear so much about. They can't be that bad.

ps. this should be an actual thing.

I'm I the only who gets bad, or weird dreams that make me feel annoyed when I wake up. Lol sorry this is just randomly on my mind.

I love having "nightmares" because even if they're not much fun while you're having them, it is fun to remember them. And they sometimes end up as great inspiration for art... I once showed my mom a drawing I made of a really messed up dream I had, involving dead goats and other hellish imagery, and she almost had me exorcised. xD Good stuff.
