Video game franchises that need to return

Well, that's what I was trying to say by "in later years". I know Star Ocean is still a thing, but I think it has drifted away from its roots, like other games mentioned in this thread (Breath of fire, Phantasy Star). To me, the last "legit" Star Ocean was 2 in the original Playstation. xP

Video game franchises that need to return

I concur. Chrono Trigger, Suikoden, The Soul Blazer trilogy, all need to make a comeback. It would be unfortunate for current/future generations not to be able to experience that kind of games... Outside of "retro-gaming", that is.

I would also like to add Legend of Dragoon, Xenosaga, Star Ocean, and Grandia, to the list. Legend of Dragon is easily the most underrated jrpg ever. Xenosaga, was never given the chance it deserved; it was rushed out. Star Ocean kinda became a collection of anime tropes in later years. And Grandia was a very "fresh" game at the time too, but the sequels were never as charming as the original...

Seriously, how come all of these awesome franchises went away, but we get a new "Tales of" every other year? xP

I don't really see anything wrong with it. Your style is very caricatur-esque and light-hearted. Anyone looking through your body of work could see that, and that you hold no ill will towards anyone. If people choose to be ofended regardless, they can suck it... Well, the concern of being able to put food on one's table as an artist in today's outrage culture is a very real one. But my advice would be to stick to your original vision no matter what. Seriously. you're one of the coolest people I've met online. Don't let bullies push you around.

Regarding the violent stuff. Again, it's fine. It's not like he's slaughtering people left and right, is it? He fights the embodiment of mostly objectively BAD things: Pollution, greed, etc. In a way that's like saying "attack ideas, not people". The over-the-top violence is just added for comedic effect... It's like complaining the Power Rangers level a building or two when saving the city from the giant monster. It's just flashy, that's all. It's a way to make the fights look more interesting. It's not an endorsement for wanton destruction...

"Complex", "relatable", "however-you-call-it" stuff is great. Preferable even. But that's just one way to do things. "Shallow", "gratuitous", "Scandalous" stuff is valid too. It's not something that we need to "purge" our works from. It's not something we need to "grow out" of. And the threshold between the two should broaden as well, because sometimes it feels like it's such a false dichotomy. It's like there's only one "acceptable" way to do things in *insert current year here* and everything else is "a mistake"... It's ridiculous.

Yeah, something about that song felt so right for the moment for some reason. xD ...Plus it's a fun video so I decided to share.

I listen to some Brazilian music - I like the language. But I'm more fond of Portuguese Fado overall... But hey, yay for colabs!

There is nothing wrong with chrono cross as a CT sequel. Fite me.

Eh, as a stand alone game it'd have been Ok. It had some neat ideas. But outside of the fan-service it was a disappointing sequel.

Y-Yeah...

I think Liberty is trying to tell us something. =^)

What are you thinking about right now?

For a moment I read the title of the "Crouching Tiger, Hidden dragon sequel" thread as "Chrono Trigger... sequel" ...Yeah. xP

Edit: Don't be silly, everybody knows Chrono Cross does not count. =P

Toraware no Shoujo - Caged Girl Review

Had the scope of the review been broader I would have agreed with that interpretation. But the nature of the same gives the impression that it comes from someone who holds a strong bias towards the subject matter. Pointing that out is not warding criticism, is saying such criticism is misplaced/uncalled for, which is valid. Criticism itself is not above scrutiny.

Edit: I'm aware of that. I'm speaking of what I believe Rose_Guardian's point was, which derived from Kya90's disclaimer. -_-

Toraware no Shoujo - Caged Girl Review

I'm sorry, but this is bullcrap. "This is not a game for everyone" is the classic codeword for "I don't want serious, objective critique because my game is perfect, so nyeh!" The fact that is so commonplace with these "horror" games makes me sick, to be honest.

Funny. When developers don't mention what kind of themes/subjects their game touches upon, or what kind of audiences are fit for it, they're accused of trying to hide crucial information (among other things). But when they do, they're accused of trying to avoid criticism. It's a "bad if you do, bad if you don't" kind of situation... Hopefully everyone can see how messed up that is?

I don't think anyone has any desire to silence criticism here. You're free to criticize anything you want no matter what. This is more like: "Ok, how helpful/productive is this criticism exactly?" ...You don't like how the game is handled. Fine. You want to talk about it. Sure. But at the end, if your review is just preaching to a choir of like-minded people, while making the game more difficult to find to those who may like it because you let your own biases color too much of the score, I'd say that's not a very cool thing to do.

And don't tell me this is an "objective" review. It mentions the gameplay for like two lines, only a small paragraph for the localization, and makes no mention of the art, mapping, or music, whatsoever. Most of it is just one giant appeal to emotion... The argument is less motivated by a genuine interest to improve the game, than it is to remove the perceived "danger" it presents.

What I find most ironic is that the author is recommending a game that has been criticized in the same fashion than this one. xD

It's never enough
