FLYINGJESTER'S PROFILE

I am the Jester.

I make games using JavaScript, C, C++, Mercury, Java, Assembly (amd64 and UltraSparc) and Python. I used to use Sphere a lot, but I'm more into C/C++ and Mercury nowadays. I still use JavaScript and embed it sometimes, and I usually use Python for build systems and system management.

I wrote TurboSphere, which is a recreation of the Sphere Game Engine with a number of major improvements. I'm not really working on it anymore.

I'm surely going to finish making a game someday. I mean, sooner or later, it's bound to happen. Right?

All Hallows' Event

I was already making a game for Halloween!

Time to show that Sphere isn't dead. It might be on life support though. And some people were thinking of pulling the plug, and letting it die alone...

The Screenshot Topic Returns

This game is going well.

A classic semi-horror point-and-click adventure.

You go about this old house...and things happen, and it's scary, I guess...I still need to flesh out the story.

VX Ace - Unofficial translation of editor and legality

Whether it is prosecuted or not it unrelated to whether it is within the consumer's rights. The owner of the rights to a work can revoke the consumer's rights if they violate the user agreement/license.

Part of the question here is the legality, that's in the very title of this thread. I'm not saying that it can't or even shouldn't be done, I'm saying that if you violate the license then technically you shouldn't use the software. That next-to-never stops you from actually using it anyway. But there is a matter of respect for the license. If you appreciate the software, you ought to appreciate and respect the license.

VX Ace - Unofficial translation of editor and legality

It doesn't come down to the laws of your country, it comes down to the license the software is released under. And unless it is an open source and/or permissive license (like BSD, MIT or Zlib) you are likely (though not definitely) violating the license to modify the source code.

On the other hand, some licenses allow you to do whatever you want as long as you don't distribute your modifications. But you'd have to read the license to know what you can or can't do!

Plus, a simple translation might not actually modify the source code. But now I'm just farting words.

RPG Creation Without the Price Tag - some restrictions apply

That's exactly what I'm referring to, a non RM engine. And it certainly is more work. You hit the nail on the head, there.

But in exchange for difficulty, most engines do solve all those 'if only there was a way to do X' problems.

RPG Creation Without the Price Tag - some restrictions apply

If you don't have the money for the full engine, you could also just use a different free RPG engine...there are quite a few...

An anti-cancer...virus?

Have you ever seen Stephen King's 'Nightmares and Dreamscapes'?

rpg for windows phone?

It's not a matter of rules with WP. It's simply a matter of market share. It makes much more sense to shoot for iOS or Android. I really don't expect WP to improve, either. It will, at best, be succeeded by Windows RT, I imagine.

This is what the market generally looks like.

rpg for windows phone?

I seriously expect Android to receive things like this first. WP is rather uncommon, and the Apple rules are generally unfavorable for most game engines. They essentially ban any program that makes use of its own language/scripting engine.

I'm not even considering releasing TurboSphere for any mobile platforms except Android, just for those reasons.

Where do you get original materials for your project? Post about it here!

I love the Hard Vacuum spritesets and tilesets from Lost Garden.
