Any libertarians here?
author=Despainauthor=Deckillerwhat are you even talking about? all of my posts have been entirely legitimate even if you don't agree with them.
This topic deserves a second chance; I'm unlocking it. Just calm down a bit, Despain :)
okay forget this thread i guess. apparently you guys aren't open to discussion and would rather post image macros.
i'm gonna go watch my little pony.
Such is the interwebs. It is not possible to speak with spirited passion in a politics thread, because those who have the power to determine that your passion is actually RAAAAAAGE will do so. You either agree with the majority, or you speak in artificially subdued language and tone.
Edit: case in point.
War on Politics
Animosity is to be expected. Other than explicit provoking and name-calling, no reason to close threads about it.
People, including me, including you, go into political discussions with a barrier up. We have our own personal understanding of the world and how it works. That level of understanding can very greatly based on age, life experience, social circles, career, class, etc. If someone challenges that understanding, it challenges that barrier. The actual objective truth seems to pale in comparison to that pride. Thus, teaching and learning don't happen on the spot.
However, I believe that discussion is actually productive, because peoples minds DO change. No one will ever admit it, but they do. You can chip away at someone's world view over time. Especially if that person is 15 years old. They will likely have a lot to learn as they experience the world.

Happy to see this thread unlocked. Come on RMN, show us all that we CAN have nice things!Karsu, I want to see someone do one of those graphs for Liberals.
I'm sure someone has, it's just probably a lot less clever. /jab
It just so happens it's just as clever. As in, not very. They're both satire.
Hey Max. You said you're socially conservative and fiscally liberal. That blows my mind and I am genuinely curious as to why. FYI, I'm not holding it against you, I'm keeping an open mind on the matter. Please indulge us my oppositely-aligned friend.

I'm a violinist..You can play three note chords, it's just that only the top two will be held, and you'll only hear the bottommost note for the beginning of the chord.
dont understand. can you clarify.
The 4 strings are in a arc-shape. The bow can sustain 2 strings at once, but not 3. Multiple violin pieces involve the type of chord he's talking about, where the bow will briefly play the bottom-most string for a brief time while the higher 2 strings are sustained.

There's nothing wrong with folks asking these questions, and they deserve a respectful reply. Although I am finished with my phase 1 piece, like me, they probably wanted to explore the possibilities without breaking the rules. By shooting that down, you're inadvertently stifling creativity. There's nothing in the rules for phase 1 that enforce minimalism, only the use of 3 instruments.
It was said in this thread that a drum kit was passable as one instrument. A drum kit involves toms, snare, bass, and a multitude of cymbals, possibly even a cowbell. Guitars and Pianos are polyphonic instruments, and can play multiple notes at once. A solo piano piece can be just as epic and thick as a full orchestra. Some instruments have advantages over others, and thus, some orchestration choices will have clear advantages over others for the purposes of this event. There are perfectly understandable grey areas that deserved a bit of clarification.

It is indeed a nebulous area.
I'm guessing string ensembles count as multiple instruments in 1 track, so best not to use them. But guitars and pianos are 1 instrument. (Unless this thing is really wacky and somehow they're not.)

Thanks for the answers, Rei. I would just like to point out that multiple people wanted clarification on the same matter. We wanted an answer from those who are in charge of this event, which is why I didn't want to go off Link's answers. No one wants to get dinged on a technicality. No reason to take a slightly adversarial stance on the subject, as it warranted a bit of genuine discussion. It is a bit silly to expect unbridled creativity while simultaneously discouraging questions about what's possible within the ruleset.
