Skyborn - Indie "Steampunk fantasy" RPG

During alpha/beta there was a lot of backlash because the game used Final Fantasy 6 edits. So they changed it before official release. Acceptance of unoriginal graphics stems from ignorance, not indifference.
Comparing apples to oranges.
FF6 edits is a breach of copyright. There was no such shady behavior in the creation of Skyborn.

If the goal was "only" $$$, I'd be leaving RPGs for the birds and instead focusing on the business of making mobile social games. It takes passion to finish an RPG, especially a collaboration between two equal partners in development (me + the main artist) as this was.
Yep, just as no one outside the community cares if the tiles are custom, no one outside the community cares if the music is original. All they care is if it's good.

Ja. Ja. I dunno. I just have this thing about RM games being sold. It feels sort of wrong. Most of the games that I've seen for sale looked good but fell far from the mark and something like this, made with RM and using graphics I can just download and use for free in my free project just feels...
As I said, it might just be me. I valuate things differently. Skyrim was my most recent VG purchase, so I based it against that. To me, the cost should reflect some of the value. I'm not one to hold money if it's something I want. (Paid over $200 for Suikoden II) But in this case, while it looks pretty it's not something I'd pay that much for.
Sorry and good luck~
To each their own. Everything is worth what one perceives it to be worth. You are an RPGMaker user, and thus, tiles from scratch is worth something. Outside this small community, that is worth very little.

I actually kind of agree with TFT - I paid $30 for Skyrim. Your game - and I mean no offense here, really - is not likely to be equal to half of Skyrim. Now, I don't mind the whole 'using RTP and other tiles' thing. Personally more power to you making a project and selling it. But the price should definitely reflect the quality and rarity in some aspect.
I could see myself maybe paying $5-$7 for something like this. From what I've seen there's stuff that looks pretty nice... but stuff that doesn't. Like some of the dialogue.
That's my opinion though. I may be wrong. I can't say until I've actually played the game whether it'd be worth it or not, to me.
All the best for ya, though~
The thing about selling stuff... one cannot possibly price something based on its comparative perceived value. Skyrim sold for 60$ originally anyway ;)
Thanks for the well wishes.

I'm uh, going to chalk that post up to "typical TFT" and be very brief with my response.
I do have my own style as a designer, and yep, it is indie. No , not a public resource as I paid them for the commercial use of them.

Hey RMN.
Allow me to share my latest project with you. RMN is where I grew up as an RPGmaker, and thus, here we go.
Summary
Skyborn is a story-driven, steampunk game. Magic meets metal in this world, powered by coal, steam, and technology, with a backdrop of magic and myth. Steampunk is a setting with its roots in 19th century England, in the industrial and Victorian era, all adapted for modern times and used as its own fairly new genre of games, movies, and especially... outfits. Skyborn takes you into a fantastical journey, from gritty, industrial cityscapes, to beautiful ancient ruins, and even into a realm of pure magic.
Life under the rule of the winged Skyborn race isn't so bad for Claret Spencer, the star mechanic of an independent repair shop. She can patch up just about anything...but when a certain cravat-wearing customer turns her life upside-down, she finds herself pulled into an epic, city-wide conflict that's going to take a lot more than elbow grease to fix!
Features
-The focus of the game is a mostly light-hearted adventure. The character interactions, atmosphere, and story serve as the engine for the experience.
-Full-sized busts used in character dialogues. Full array of expressions as well, really brings the exposition to life.
-Mouse and menu bar. Thanks to the masterful work of rpgmakervx.net's Mithran, the mouse is leaps and bounds ahead of any previous iteration. It has easy navigation, easy clicking, and is fully capable of navigating through the menus intuitively and quickly.
-Threat, tanking, and CT systems make for a more tactical, streamlined combat system.
-No random battles. All encounters, other than scripted sequences, are visible on the map, and for the most part, easy to avoid.
-Exploration nodes! You can level up adequately, simply by collecting exploration nodes. They will grant xp/levels and can be found in the nooks and crannies of the world.
-Mining, crafting, and augmenting. Mine ore, take it to a forge. Turn it into a piece of armor. Then, take that armor and further customize and enhance it with a magical augment. Augments can be overridden without losing the piece of equipment, but it destroys the augment item itself.
-Battle retry. No automatic game over upon losing. Hard to lose anyway, without setting it on "hard" difficulty, the setting tailored for veteran RPG players.

I really wish I had infinite time, so I could do tons of these. They can't be used in any soundtracks so they're just for fun, shrug.

I think what Craze meant to say in his own elegant manner, is that a unified design direction is better than "design by committee." Design is something that cannot be approached frivolously if a good product is to be released.
The RPG Music Challenge
It should be known that the WTF awards were kind of a committee decision by the IRC channel as a whole. :P Also, Dudesoft's wasn't really a WTF.
Thanks for the congrats, thanks for running the event. I really had to push myself and write something inspired due to the tough competition, and my current game-in-development's soundtrack got a couple nice tunes out of it.
