Connecticut Shooting

Oh hi there, Australia here. Only farmers and those who need a gun* are allowed to have them. Also, knives are a no-no. Sure we get stabbings and shootings in gang and drug related crimes but I can't remember the last time someone shot up a school.

Just sayin'

*Oh, and those are never semi-automatic or automatic weapons. Only the military are allowed to have those.

Do I feel safe? Uh, I leave my front and back doors open on summer nights, never lock the windows and haven't been robbed or in fear of being so yet. :]

The government regulates knives? The fuck?

I thought Australia was full of over-sized overly venomous monsters constantly trying to kill you? You'd think such a place would need to be armed to the teeth versus nature herself.

Yeah so, do you know how many people I could kill tomorrow, just by driving my car into a busy downtown sidewalk? It would be a bloodbath. All it would require would be my willingness to do so. Outlaw cars.

Thanks!

Yeah, Saehral rules. She did the portraits for all 3 of my commercial games, and did a lot more in-game art in Skyborn.

almost too much epic to handle.
Yes but why?? That's what this thread's for! You have to explain your reasoning!

I have to huh?

I was 12 so it was burned into my memory when I still had hopes and dreams and was full of wonder. The game had been building to a big climax for a very long time, and the entire floating continent felt like it was almost at the epic pivotal moment. Very tense. I didn't know what to expect, could it be the end of the game? Everything is surreal. Then Atma Weapon appears looking like a final boss, playing badass background music. It was simply pacing and atmosphere.

Favorite Enemies or Bosses?

It's 1994, a young harm experiences Atma Weapon from FF6 for the very first time. He's already mind-blown by the floating continent level itself, and to encounter this amazing beast (with an amazing soundtrack) was almost too much epic to handle.

The Screenshot Topic Returns

I like the town a LOT, but the castle is too open and bare. Classic DQ castles were a bit of a labyrinth.

Seyken

Looks like a problem with direction, not pure art talent - that's some really nice pixel art.

Blatant and shameless ripoff of SD3's character *design* is passable, but the sprites look like edits. That's really toeing the line or crossing it.

Ruins of Rydos

A mountain has been made out of a molehill. It is amazing that in 2012, we're still seeing "haters gonna hate" posts. Disagreeing and/or disapproving =/= hate. I guess chivalry isn't dead, what with all the white knighting going on up in here.

This is just a typical response to typical criticism, not an "argument." You can't just mini-mod the end to a conversation before people get a chance to clear the air. -_-

Edit: Okay, Liberty. We were allowed to clear the air. An accusation was made of us being "haters" when in reality no one gives nearly enough of a fuck to "hate" anyone. ...Obviously.

Ruins of Rydos

Actually, an 8-bit RPG does very much appeal to me. Kentona and others have done a great job trying to recreate the magic of early Dragon Quest-style games. That's nostalgia.

You tried pegging me as someone who just doesn't care for stuff like this, and you're wrong. That's the point.

As I've been told a million times, and rightfully so, this is commercial and should be held to a much higher standard.

Ruins of Rydos

You take criticism of your game and deflect it by saying that I'm "venting frustrations." You will probably fool some people, but to me it's a very transparent attempt to protect yourself from criticism of this game.

You say it's "nostalgia", I say it's low quality. When you post your game for the public, expect criticism. You don't have to accept it, but when you try and deflect it like that, it looks bad.

People who aren't going into a game for all its graphics and features, and people who don't have 'the nostalgia bone."

I'm 30 years old, and was basically raised by Chrono Trigger, FF4, and FF6. My "Nostalgia bone" is practically arthritic right now. However, I'm also a veteran of the commercial rpgmaker game world, and am well aware of how much the "look, my low budget game is NOSTALGIA" card has been played to death.
