Of apologies and censorship

I'd like to couple what Mawk said with this romantic notion I have about this place actually being a community, besides being being a private space... So really, just ask yourself: Is this the kind of speech that is worth championing in a space that you share with women and children? And I don't mean to sound moralizing to you, or condescending to them; It's just the truth of the situation.

Up until the day the site actually implements content filters, or raises the minimum age limit, or grows so big and detached that we don't care about alienating our fellow members, I think is in everyone's bests interest to find some common ground.

...But all in all I'm just glad you're actually considering the issue. That's more than can be asked from other 'stubborn' types around here.

Actually, my 'ruling' does apply to gore and violence. But just as I don't find unreasonable to portray some skin, I don't think some splotches of blood are a problem. But if you had actually drawn your characters with gushing wounds or something, I would have raised a similar objection. Such level of graphism is often depicted for Shock-value, and add no real merit to a work... And if "sincerity" is your concern, then I don't see how going: 'But others have gotten away with it!' does your case any good. ;P

Companies often try to downplay the severity of the content in their games in order to get lower rantings and make more sales. Rating systems in the other hand, are far from being infallible. The result of this combination are tons of inconsistencies (and in the worst cases, scandals worth millions of dollars). But overall not the most honest of practices...

Also, yeah, I saw your PM (and blog), it's just that I didn't have time to reply earlier. It was just a little misunderstanding. Don't fret about it.

Well, I guess that ball could be tossed around all day...

Anyway, could it be possible that when I click on 'Mark all as read', the click doesn't take me to the Notices page? If I wanted to do that I'd just click on 'Notices', and that would automatically mark my notices as 'read' anyway, so I don't see the benefit of having that option in the drop-down menu... Or maybe this is just a problem in Chrome or something? =/

A little counterargument here. >.<! ...If someone were to keep an eye on blogs, your first point wouldn't even be an issue. It takes like five minutes to check on blogs everyday. As for content, it depends. Some blogs are pretty content heavy, while some reviews are very lacking; Even worse, some are a lot of padding with no real meat to them... Also, (good) blogs can generate lots of interest. Screenshots are more accessible, yes, but blogs shed light on the thought-process behind a game.

I really like your suggestion about featuring only the best blogs on the frontpage, though. If anything, that's what the frontpage should be for, and that idea should be extended to reviews, articles, etc. But that still has to adress Link's concern about their placement on the page. I support blogs should be placed higher up on virtue of them cycling more often.

@Kentona: You always complain you have no time, no staff, but you never do anything about it... So, why not let Liberty do it? You already trust her enough to be a mod so why not give her a more active role on the site? She knows a lot about good writing, and has a good grasp of what the standards on this place should be. I can't think of anyone better for the job (Except for me, of course *wink*).

Alternatively, device a more efficient way for people to suggest stuff. Nobody wants to go back to a forum thread and paste a bunch of links on a regular basis. Something like the 'report' button, but without the hassle of having to send a PM to the entire staff.

We're not late night TV, we're supposed to keep things relatively kid-friendly. And I think that's a reasonable, even laudable effort.

The "12 year olds" comment was kind of a jab at the comment YOU made before me. I don't know how you could miss that... xD

Anyway, I'm not interested in getting your art banned, or getting anyone involved on this; Not even the big-wigs, because quite frankly, they're not the most reliable bunch. But if a few fellow members approaching you with a honest concern aren't enough to make you reconsider a little, then, Welp! More power to you, I guess... And if your art misrepresents your game, then even more the reason to do something about it. If I were you I'd just edit the racy bits out. It would lake like five minutes tops. ;P

Edit: That's a nice video, but what does it have to do with anything I said...?

I don't know, one has to admit that these drawings are rather 'imaginative'. I can give a pass to the weird anatomy because it's obvious you're not at a good skill-level yet. I can even go as far as not mind the partial nudity because, hey, 12 year olds like what 12 year olds like, right? ...But really, the defined nipples and genitals should go. That goes beyond "fan-service" and delves dangerously upon being porn, and I'm pretty sure is against the site's standing on the subject. (Or at least it should be)

*I think there's a place for everything, but I don't think RMN should be that place. I'd hate to see this site turn into another DeviantArt. I'd like to think everyone here is more responsible than to indulge into their weird fetishes, and not because of any "social impact" our art may have, but because is scraping-the-bottom-of-the-barrel cheap to resort to this kind of thing.

Gutter-Delve: The Closet Cases

If we're going to be trying to blame videogames for how they create violence, they can be equally called out for misrepresenting females...

That's exactly why we should NOT stand for any of that. You should know how ludicrous the claims that videogames cause violence are. So why extend that to every social ill that people can come up with? Like it or not, in the grand scheme of things there's a place for everything* and some games will remain "just games" forever. We can't afford to give up certain subjects just because someone somewhere may be dumb enough to act on them... If that were the standard, none of us would be here.

Rather than blame content creators over a simple correlation, we should demand laws be more effective and punish actual criminals.

I like the changes so far, at least on my desktop, on my mobile the notices take all the screen and I can't click anything else. =S

About that mock-up. Yeah, some things are good but some others not so much. But I wonder is why do you keep stacking stuff in the front page. Isn't that why the portals were created? Anyway, I may pitch you some ideas once the AHE is over... Too busy right now! xP

The Screenshot Topic Returns

I gotta say, that's a rather magnificent mix of resources. I usually frown at this kind of stuff but here it doesn't look so bad. Personally, I'd make the outlines on the sprites a bit subtler, and reduce a few colors from the photographic elements, but I understand you have time constraints and such... What I'm not too sure about is the portrait, maybe a photo would have been better.

Puppet Heroes

@Pizza: Fair enough. Yeah, I noticed the quotes, but they were rather ambiguously placed, so I thought you were looking down on event-based programming just for taking less skill than learning a scripting language... when what matters are the results, I think.

@LockeZ: I don't know, there are (supposedly) six people involved in this project. If you were to take the whole illegal aspect out of the equation and pay them all minimum wage for at least six months, I'm guessing the costs would surpass the $30,000 mark; but then people is like "not everybody deserves a wage for their work". So let's say they're willing to take less than that-- then people is like "Slave wages!" ...And I know what people really want is transparency, but sometimes it would seem like there's really no winning scenario. xD

Also, I'm sure you know this, but by "story" he probably means all the writing involved, including the translation to English and such...
