Which came first: The Story or the Gameplay?

For me is the story, I love telling stories, in fact, when I first started my 'game' it took me a while to realize that most of it where just a bunch of cut-scenes one after another, that's why now I'm adding side quest, mini games, and trying to spice up the battles a bit... but sometimes I even think of ways to mold game mechanics to the rules of the world the story takes place in, you know, like in ffta, with the judges and all that, except less retarded arbitrary.

That Final Stretch

Nice topic! I really haven't put much thought on this since I've never been even close to make an entire game, but I've always fancied the multi-party system from ff6 so I wanna do that, except that maybe less convoluted, because as much as I remember it being fun an challenging at times, I also remember it being tedious and boring if you were either underleveled or overleveled…

Something else I want to do is kill all my characters in the final dungeon... and then have them reborn as gods! with wings, and eyes, and crosses everywhere, in order to defeat Necron! ...it's gonna be awesome!

Battle Video + Timed Hits + Spells + Items + Status Effects

This battle system looks really sweet, it reminded me of chrono trigger's a little bit and that's always a good thing; the only aspect of it that I didn't like as much are the various HUDs, the menus are kind of small, the ‘font' is hard to read and looks weird, almost like: “FirE RunE” and well, some other things could also use more polishing too...

But I understand you're still working on this, so, I hope you the best of luck with it.

Nice work :D Is it the same place as El-Sato was about the RTP faceset remake?

Thanks, Nessiah! and yeah, a nice tiny corner of the spanish rm community called Imaginarium.
Currently the rtp facesets remake is over, but if you feel curious you can see all the entries: here.

Ocean, that's amazing! ...But is it finished? I love the color scheme and the background mostly, it's a very detailed and relaxing scene; but what I don't like is how the characters stick out so much, is like if they were just pasted on top to the background, was that intentional? also, there are many parts on their lineart that look rather sloppy, like in the guy's right shoulder...

Oh, that looks very ellegant... l thought it was a systemset, but I guess is an image, right?
I can read the white text just fine, is the brown one that gets a bit lost on the background.

SorceressKyrsty, you just need to use more colors that's all, or perhaps manage them better, you only have like four shades of gray/blue for a predominantly gray/blue sprite and like six shades of red for just the tiny red parts... and all in all you're only using like 20 colors while K-hos' sprite has many more.

But yeah, whenever you have the time, it would be nice to see that sprite shine a little more.

Aaand, well, I'm gonna post here some rtp faceset remakes I did for some contests someplace else...
Hope you like'em!

RPGs Through the Generations

Snes/zsnes:
Final fantasy 6 ...I love the job system of ff5, chrono trigger is pretty good, seiken densetsu 3, bahamuth lagoon, terranigma, tales of phantasia, and star ocean were pretty enjoyable too, but yeah, for me nothing compares to the excellent storytelling of ff6.

ps1
Ff tactics ...vagrant story as well, and the final fantasys too, suikoden 2 was great, and so was valkyrie profile, star ocean 2, legend of dragoon, xenogears, etc. I played pretty much every other rpg there was on the psx, but these I remember the most.

ps2
Suikoden 3 ...The final fantasys had many good things but none was my cup of tea, and the crazy plot twists of star ocean and valkyrie profile managed to alienate me, so I mostly sheltered on the suikoden and xenosaga series, too bad they are virtually over.

Many other games I've dismissed, perhaps hastily, but because I feel rpgs are becoming too "artificial" nowadays, I was just looking at some clips of Star Ocean 4 the other day and I felt sick watching all the crap they managed to pull together... It bothers thought, that maybe I'm really missing some good stuff out there, like the Persona series that I keep hearing is pretty cool; but when I tried persona 3 I putted the control down as soon as the lead character put a 'gun' to his head, yes, I bet there is a meaning to it, but the imagery alone was to emo-anime for my taste/patience.

Just to be picky... the word 'NecropoliS' is placed too high on the screen. =P

8 hours in: 2k3 is a piece of garbage

It's funny, I just I tested this in an enemy with a '100' on each stat, then I buffed it and its stats went up to '200' as they should, lastly I casted a 'dispel' spell on it and its stats reverted back to '100'... What I can't do is make the enemy cast these buffs on itself, I have to do it throught events and its not worth it. So yeah, rm2k3 sucks.

The enemy AI doesn't recognise status-effects as useful, basically... you need to trick it into thinking the skill has other positive effects!
Oh snap! I wonder why I couldn't think of that before.... Thanks for the tip, Fallen-Griever.
