Pacing VS Character Development

author=LockeZ
You're really bad at this. Don't give any more writing advice, please. You have taken no actual fiction writing classes and have no idea what you're talking about.
He does have a point though. Besides, except for maybe a few people around here, how many of us really -know- what we'are talking about all the time? I thought we were amateur game designers for a reason...

I also can't stand it when a sentence (or whatever) runs from one textbox to the next.
Or when people
write their sentences like
this, and left tons of wasted
space to the right.

As for the topic, I used to make long cut scenes, like 6 minutes long or more and with all kinds of information and stuff on them, but many people complained, so now I try to make them like 3 minutes long or so, and I try to focus on what's really important to say plot wise at that moment, I also try to avoid the kind of things kentona and I were referring to earlier, a difficult task already and even more so with rm2k3's 50 character per line limit.

Yeah, I kind of feel like I'm sacrificing character development in this way but I think is best for the player to keep it like that... what I plan to do in order to alleviate it is making character related scenes optional or hidden and offer little rewards attached to them, for example, right know I have a tactical minigame where if you choose to watch certain scenes you get extra offensive points and a fresh turn after you're done.

I've got tears in my eyes right now... ;v;

Beautiful colors! Tiles seem to be ok ...that statue over there look kind of flat though.

RPG 20XX Engine

This is looking really sweet! Finally after so many years someone is doing what we all have always wanted, thanks WolfCoder! ...now I can't really remember many things that I would like to be fixed besides the one already mentioned, but something that would be cool as well is being able to 'detect' specific status on both the enemy and the player with simple fork conditions in the default battle system.

Aaand, I'll try to think up some more, but in the mean time I wish you the best of luck with this.

In the bottom left corner of the screen the foliage of the trees make the illusion of a vertical straight line that looks very unnatural imo.

Edit:

What?
Whoops! I meant diagonal, not vertical... sorry about my engrish.

I like the thing with the tortoise shell and the hare ears... the dragon with the scarf is cool too. :D

The Great Switch: Why VXP is Better

I'd loooove to make the switch, but what stops me is that I know nothing, zero, nada, about scripts, and I bet a lot of other people feel exactly the same way, and the thing is that learning how to script even if a little bit is not as easy as people who know how to script make it out to be because even the smallest mistake can eff up a script and discourage you lots, and on top of that, I've learned than in this tiny and petty world of amateur game making you can only get so much help before you have to suck it up and do -everything- yourself, because even partnerships are hard to come by and most are doomed to fail anyway...

So as much as the Melody engine being awesome and all that, at the end of the day you only got yourself and what little you´re capable of doing, and in my experience, struggling to edit the rage bar in Melody while I can do pretty much the same thing cheaply with facesets in rm3k, is not worth the switch.

But meh! maybe someday...

It seems like some soldiers are playing 'hide and go seek' rather than anything else... What I mean is: there are too many crates and stuff all over the place and it look very busy; I'd suggest you remove some of them.

Three Questions About RPG Maker 2000/3

Perhaps you should use rm2k instead of rm2k3, there are patchs for rm2k to play mp3s, to use bigger charas, and well, you can use the default battle system all you want...

Updated RTP Chipsets

I don't see much difference, that's probably just some crappy edit of the rtp... but why would you want to use that one, when there are many good chipsets out there?
