FLYINGJESTER'S PROFILE
I am the Jester.
I make games using JavaScript, C, C++, Mercury, Java, Assembly (amd64 and UltraSparc) and Python. I used to use Sphere a lot, but I'm more into C/C++ and Mercury nowadays. I still use JavaScript and embed it sometimes, and I usually use Python for build systems and system management.
I wrote TurboSphere, which is a recreation of the Sphere Game Engine with a number of major improvements. I'm not really working on it anymore.
I'm surely going to finish making a game someday. I mean, sooner or later, it's bound to happen. Right?

3.4 GHz AMD Phenom II x6 Black
12 GB DDR3 1066 Ram
Dual Zotac AMP! Overclocked NVidia GTX 550 ti (1GB) GPUs in SLI
64+32 GB SSDs in RAID0 for OS and programs
160 GB 7400 RPM HDD (16 MB cache) for data
SB Audigy 2 Pro sound card (7.1 surround) with a built-in soundfont rom.
USB 3.0, too.
Arch Linux, 64-bit all the way.
Except that I also have Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit on it. For all the Windows-stuff it can do, there really is no way to do Silverlight > 2.0 on Linux.
In retrospect, I would have bought NVidia GTX 460s. Or even just a single 460. It was better than the 550 for a similar price.

Get Game Maker Studio Standard for Free
author=Archeia_Nessiahauthor=Zachary_BraunSomeone actually made masking in RGSS3 before! IIRC, there's 3 people who did it. I think one was French/Spanish, one is in RMW boards where he made a graphic utility, and I think the last one was KGC or White Flute.
I think games made in Game Maker run more smoothly than those made in RPG Maker. Other than that, why use Game Maker over the RGSS engines in the later RPG Makers? Ruby is versatile and you already know it from being here.
Just start a new RPG Maker project and delete every default script, then start coding. The only thing I can't conceive a means to do is masking...
There are also a lot of totally free engines (many open source) that are pretty easy to use and give total and utter control with low overhead.

[Poll] All Hallows' Event II: Theme Poll
@LockeZ: People who create dysfunctional abominations will create dysfunctional abominations, regardless of whether contests exist or not.
I for one like it because it pushes people to at least try. And trying is not the easiest part. It also pushes people to actually finish something. And finishing is one of the hardest parts.

[Poll] All Hallows' Event II: Theme Poll
author=AnaryuThis is a something I just assumed, but we don't have to use RPG Maker for this do we? (ie. it's okay to use other engines?)Answer is in progress.
I certainly hope it's not just RPG Maker. I never get to do events because of my engine. My engine was one of the first engines on RMN, and glory days and put the torch back beneath the flame and all that!
There are lots of dark alleys and cloaks and daggers, but don't be afraid. I love you, open source, you saved my life.
My point remains. Open source saved my life. It's always there when I need it, and it doesn't ask questions or require me to agree to things that are at the very least strange.
The legal definition (well, the colloquial legal definition) is that the source is as available as the binaries are. You could compile it yourself. Open Source does not mean GPL, that it must stay that way, or that you can't make money off it, or that it can't be used in conjunction with close source code (even mixed with it at a source level).
And I actually don't know if that describes RM 20XX. So I could be full of poop on that.
