Hellion Review
What are you working on now?

Vroom Vrooom
I want more vehicle sound effects :(
WIP. Sorta.
EDIT:
Origional do not steal.
Seriously.
Hellion
Yeah, it's a pretty fun game (Great work!)
I submitted a review and I did list a few things that can be fixed. But those are pretty minor.

[Rm2k3] shift button = instantenous message?
post=121598
Sleeping Wind.... Dude... from what I can tell, you've been using rm forever since GW, and YOU JUST NOW noticed this? Are you for real man?
Haha yeah, to be honest though, I am still learning things with Rm2k3. Sure, I can do basic functions and some coding, but some of the stuff I am still unsure of (there are a LOT of commands I never tried in the editor yet... or these shotcut buttons obviously!)
post=121680
Helpful buttons in 2K/3:
SHIFT during messages
CTRL to walk through objects
F1 in database for small hints on usage
F5 during play to change play size (try it out. Doesn't change window size, just how the window fills)
F9 during play for variables and/or switches
F12 during play to restart
Um, any I'm missing?
Welp, I only knew CTRL, Shift (recent) and F4.
FFFFFF F9 is awesome. Should make a hell lot of testing easier; WHY DIDN'T I NOTICE THIS SOONER.

Long as we're talking about that, let me just say that I really despise "instant" messages. There is absolutely no incentive to read them when you can just rat-a-tat-tat skip them. (and it's soo enticing to skip them) Whenever given a choice (in pro games) I usually pick "fast", but never instant.
furthermore, dear developers: if it's enticing to skip merrily through the dialogue rather than read it, there is something horribly wrong with your game's writing.
Well... I read pretty fast myself. As such, I like instant messages; but that doesn't mean I choose that exclusively. All I can say that in some games like Paradise blue or Kentona's Hellion, I would LOVE instant message when they show you get X amount of AP or "you deciphered a high level scrolllll GJ !" (sorry kentona!) for the 99th time (try buying 99 high end scroll if you are bored and press F5. That would certainly take a while).
...you know maybe I found this because I subconsciously thought that the message would go faster if I press shift - like you know, cause that makes you run in the game.
I implement AP points myself (you got a whoopin X AP message after battle) so instant is a good way for this imo (or battle animation like in TTB).
As for story... I don't like to skip, but I agree if you think that Speed 0 and Speed 1 in RM is A HUGE GAP (i.e. speed 1 is too slow, but speed 0 is too fast for pacing). I think this is a reason why people use 1 instead of the default, but sometimes it gets kinda annoying (especially if the dialogue is pretty bad). If it takes too long without action I am starting to get edgy too. That's when I want to skip things. Also during testings.
And thanks to all who contributed, I didn't realized that RM have these kind of features.
Hellion
That's what I did, but pressing to decipher still takes quite a while to be honest. Then again, I am not too sure if you can speed it up with just one message box (instead of 99, one by one) - I haven't even looked at the coding. Also kinda strange that you can get a lot of scrolls like this with just 50Gold (high level).
Also, you probably won't need/care about this (I mean, the game is already completed and working as of now) but there is a small bug in Zaldach's tower. The right enemy's (just after you enter the gate) forage switch is messed up with the left's
Basically you use the wrong forage switch so as long as you don't kill the left enemy, the forage chest for the right one will remain intact (get as many as you want).
It would also be nice if you can but better weapons in the store, cause I want to save those chests for the latter part of the game (where the loots gets better!). Oh well, I am nitpicking too much here, sorry.
BTW, why do I get "cross-site forgery error" often when searching the game database?? (if not logged in)

Hellion
Been playing it for a while now.
I like the D&D skills and actually implementing them in my project. I hope you don't mind me taking a few pointers here and there.
However, the deciphering for scrolls and bag is a bit tedious imo. I can understand the bag/chest and it doesn't really bug me, but phew, buying 99 high level scrolls for 50 gold and deciphering all of them sure takes a while! (99 message boxes saying "deciphered high end scroll" over and over again). Perhaps you can cut this down if you ever make another one like this?
I am going to try generica next, but it doesn't have OOBS......
Also, I can't say I really like the Old school graphics. Sure they grew on me later, but well..... but then again, this is nitpicking, I guess you just like to use them.

[Rm2k3] shift button = instantenous message?
Does anyone else noticed this? I just realised it recently when playing hellion (holding down shift button while talking). Basically it overrides slow messages or bypass auto message (that doesn't prompt the player to press action button).
I can't find this via help file so I want to know whether this is useable or not (i.e. can cause problems in the game etc etc).

Iron Gaia: Virus Review
I played this game a few weeks ago and I think this review summed my thoughts (and hate for the repair and hack skill) well.
One thing I remember most is that there is a quest where you need to turn off some explosives and one of them can only be deactivated if you have A CHAFF GRENADE ON. Took me a lot of tries and reading the event coding to finally figured that out.

How tolerant are you to legitimately difficult bosses?
post=119968
Some of the best boss fights I have ever encountered have been from Legend of Legaia and the Grandia games. These bosses can really turn things around, and yet are never TOO overbearing. And often times, grinding does not make it any better!
Legend of Legaia oh man, fun times.
Battle with two electric type monster in the monastery's forest (?), Battle against Songi, Battle with a mino-centaur, The swordsman on top of one city/tower thing still give me a shiver just thinking about it.
Basically there is a lot of magic grinding in that game (use it more, it gets stronger!) good idea, but there NO SKIP BUTTON (enjoy 45+ second animations per magic). Also, one time you SHOULD reset a lot just to get one of the best early magic (Kemaro) which can deal 3K damage at level 10 (pretty long guys). Honestly, without that knowledge and resetting, I don't think I would manage to beat the boss in that dungeon.
Funny thing is, the final boss ain't actually that hard but I guess that's because I did most of the sidequests by that time.
Actually you know, I think it's the long animation and grinding that makes me hate the game a bit. Other than that, it is a really rad game.
