I can't put my grubby finger on it, but...

Or someONE..?

Azure Dreams...sort of.

Ah, Azure Dreams. I never really got to finish the game, but it's pretty fun (and flawed as you said) and overall, I really like this series.

Personally, I find the monster concept the most interesting in the game. Sure the first few monsters might turn you off, but the latter ones are pretty cool.

So here are things I like to nitpick about the series:
1. Eggs. Yeah, I have been trying for ages to get that MAXIMUM egg. But that floor is pretty much the end game, so the MAXIMUMS there are damn deadly. Not to mention getting eggs depends most on luck and I think you can't use reload feature if the floor doesn't have the egg (the save data is erased if you die/quit I think) since if you want specific monster egg, there is a specific floor it spawned. I find this annoying.

2. I don't mind getting level down when you exit, but sometimes (especially in the beginning), getting that wind crystal just in time before you die and get all your items trashed is not an easy thing to do. Sometimes you just CAN'T find it until higher level, in which case your survival rate is slim. Good luck getting out of the trap (floor?) which lead to you surrounded by monsters.

3. Monster fusion and Arts (fire sword, bubble sword?, etc) are cool. I once combine the tall golem (block??) with something and get a gold coloured one. Am I dreaming this? Because I don't really think there is any color change in the game.

4. The monster concept in general is a pretty cool idea. This coupled with having played SMT Devil Summoner : Raidou Kuzunoha I&II, lead me to designing a summoner based game.

Beautiful Escape: Dungeoneer Review

Hell, if you just made sure there is a drill in each set so the player can always at least kill their first victim then that would be enough for the starting set problem.

Don't you think "Drowning" is better? Cause I think that thing can instant kill any person - if you hold it on long enough.... (I think).

Yep, that's definitely the smell of something burning at the back of my head.

Don't forget to make backup.

Also, need more screenshots, I want inspirationssss

What are you working on now?

My favorite color scheme for each row:
1-1, 2-3, 3-3, 4-1, 6-2 and 6-3. (No, I don't like the fifth set).
I like both of the bandanna'd sprites a lot, and don't really like the fifth set.

... and they took a while to make too...
haha, but I agree, those are the less interesting ones in the set. However, I actually want to have a cape look for one of the final set, so I guess I am going to have to remake that one to make it more interesting. Also, the 2nd one is based on another Square enix game's character (SaGA2), so that will probably not make it as well....

@Others
Any other preferences?

I would suggest choosing a graphic and then have class be separate. It worked out okay in FF5, but I'd rather not be stuck with an effective class that I thought was ugly. If classes are important, though, make graphics class-specific, like in a tactics game.

Yeah, I thought of working with this idea too. I was thinking of matching the weapon with the "look" to make it more uh... "natural" but I actually prefer this method myself (separate graphic and skill).

What are you working on now?

Working on character customization system (mostly cosmetics). In the beginning you will be able to create a team of 3 (just like FF1, you are all unnamed or (AFGNCAAP)).

Problem is, I am torn between:
a) Class specific sprites, like the very 1st would be Engineer or Mechanic (you can still chose the colors)
b) You can choose any graphics and then choose the class you want to be in
c) Full freedom to change class anytime (not graphics though).
d) The real reason : It's just cosmetics and probably don't mean anything, so making 3 different color for 1 sprite is pretty much overkill.

So yeah, which one do you guys like best? I don't think I will animate all of them cause that'd be a lot of work.

EDIT:

I am thinking of 3 different sprites for male and 3 sprites for female. The latter I haven't even started.

Beautiful Escape: Dungeoneer

Actually after the 1st one I always managed a beautiful escape, it isn't too hard to pull off.

oh wait, I forgot, I sort of "cheated" by giving a save point in the dungeon, so I can always retry if I doesn't pull beautiful escape off (this just saves time though).

In terms of difficulty though, I can probably manage a beautiful escape with very few items. (it irks me to describe it but...) Start with a hard hitter and end with drills and drown. The latter traps allow you to "skip it" if the health/will gets too low. Improvise in the middle and stuff. Even without them, you can always assure one with a bit of trial/error method (which I frequently need in the beginning, thus why I place that save point). So yeah, it's not hard imo (I feel a bit bad now, Thanks videogame cruelty potential! :( )

Good luck on the contest bud!

SPOILER
Yeah, it's kinda funny since the 1st time for the last one I tried putting nothing to see what happens. So that's how it works!

Beautiful Escape: Dungeoneer

Just finished it. (Dangit, I should have Edit my post instead)

Damn, it's so friggin bizarre. I guess you succeeded in making me feel intrigued and feel uneasy at the same time.

So far:
the graphics are great. I like the effects and the lighting. The world map could use a bit of a path though. Because it feels a bit random the first time you try to navigate it. It's much better after you get used to it though.

I couldn't manage to get that "beautiful escape" for the very first person, but it gets easier after that (more items). Still, does it really make a difference perhaps in scoring? Also I read that there is a slight change at the end if
you make a beautiful escape for the last one

is this true? because I tried it and there is nothing different from what I see.

Good work, it still gives me a few chills.

Maybe it's because I renamed the exe file to Dungeoneer.exe. Try changing it back to RPG_RT.exe

Thanks, now it works just fine (the title on the top left was "untitled" before I changed the exe to RPG_RT).

Thought it was a case of bad download (or virus) so I re-downloaded it like 3 times.

Beautiful Escape: Dungeoneer

I don't get this. The game run just fine and great if you open it normally, but for some reason it won't appear in the Rm2k3 game list? (i.e. if you try to find/open it via Rm2k3 it doesn't show up).

Strange.
