I like it. I'd suggest changing it up a bit depending on what location you are in. Like if you are in a spider lair, have web around the edges or something along those lines. It would make it a lot more interesting to look at.

Those 4 towers at the peak of the new castle don't really look right sitting on the light gray tiles.
*also, I'm not a fan of perfectly symmetrical maps like this. sure you might not notice that in game because you only see a small part but still
**there's a mapping error in the tower to the left of those 4 towers I mentioned
xD
Yeah, I realized that when I was mapping the towers. The whole design is based off of the Dwarven castle from FF4, towers included. I need to look at the tiles in the chipset to see what will make it look better. If nothing does, then I'll just have to make a tile that suits it.
99% sure I know how to make it look better without modifying the chipset though.
Switching to midis and increasing the walk speed.

I'm glad to see this project is moving forward again.
1. Thanks for increasing the walking speed.
2. Like Nightblade said, if you use Audacity, you can keep those high quality mp3s and still make the download size smaller.
3. It'd be a good idea to keep the player informed on what they are supposed to be doing. Holler at NicoB of Forever's End for more info on how.
4. Trust me, I still like the game a lot. These improvements will only make it even better and much more polished. As long as we don't have one endless hallway (FF XIII) I'll be satisfied.
1. Seems like this was more universally desired than I imagined. Currently playing through the entire game again (urgh) to make sure the new walk speed doesn't affect anything. The pacing of dungeons and towns definitely feels much better now.
2. Would GoldWave be able to do this as well? It is my mp3 editing program of choice. I assume all that would be required is to change the quality of the mp3?
3. Definitely. This is already working out pretty well from the improvements I've been making. There are now GPS pads (see screenshots) on the world map that can point you in the direction you need to go in, and NPCs aren't as vague about where you need to go or what you need to do.
4. No endless hallway, haha. It only worked for FF XIII because it was a very pretty game that was nice to look at.
The projects we regret
I regret Reminisce. http://rpgmaker.net/games/78/
Working on it was a boring chore and I never had a strong emotional attachment to it. A few people liked it, but I really wasn't too fond of it at all except for maybe one character that I thought was really well done. Everything I was doing in it design-wise was just completely against my regular style so I always felt like I was making someone else's game.

I remember a few years back, whenever anyone made a topic similar to this one, lysander would reply out of nowhere like some kind magic elf.
I thought of this too. Now I am waiting for his fated appearance.
buuuuuuuuuuuurp!!!!! hi :D

there ya go
*lol "meksicburg"?
It's a name that I've used for towns for over ten years in RPG Maker and roleplaying campaigns. I have a soft spot for the name. It looks a little unusual, but I think unusual names are good.

The Screenshot Topic Returns
Fixing Branch Castle in Blackmoon Prophecy by fully remapping all of it. I intend to make the castle easier to navigate and to feel more like a castle from FF4.

Just so you know UPRC, you've got about 50 MB of thumbs.db files (those basically worthless thumbnail database files that Windows loves to include with every folder that contains any image files)
Get rid of those, use 7-Zip instead of zip, and you'll shave the download size by about 30 MB or so (maybe more)
For some reason, people are more willing to d/l a game that's closer to 100 MB then 200 MB (even though they have broadband...yeah, go figure)
Quoting this so that I remember to remove the thumbs.db files.
