Blog 9: Intro of Seraphic Blue
Alter A.I.L.A. Variant

(Okay just kidding about that last one. Here's the real one)

Please go to my DA page if you want to track this on a regular basis (http://neoku.deviantart.com/). I'll still post pages here as well, but it'll be in batches (whereas I'll be uploading pages to DA as I complete them).

Thanks for playing. Yeah, tbh I still have regrets with not going with my original plan. But then again, the fact that I got this far at all is already amazing to me.

Anyway, I managed to get the best ending, yay! Very interesting (and the backstory is quite sad). Again, though, it didn't feel particularly horrific -- I guess a big thing about horror stories is that you're never safe, and have to constantly watch out for danger. If there's an impenetrable sanctuary, that feeling kind of wears off. Especially if the main character has supernatural powers specifically tailored to resisting the danger. Sometime I'd really like to see a story where the undead are not inexplicably hurt/repelled by light, and people who try to use that trope do nothing but make a shining beacon for the undead to come kill them. I kept expecting you to do something in that vein...and I guess you kind of did with the power outage, but I was wondering if the wraith would be able to put out the fire or something, since characters mention that it's really cold whenever it shows up. But alas. I imagine the story is darker if you don't rescue everyone in time, but it takes so long for them to die that you have to do it on purpose, pretty much. Also...
I was a bit disappointed that there was no way to save Cyrus or the scientists, in a game where you can choose whether everyone else lives or dies.
Haha, you might be expecting a bit much from me. I did this about 4-6 years before AAG came out, so of course it's gonna pale in comparison (for a time, I had actually removed both it and Sainth cause I didn't really wanted people playing it anymore since it had so many flaws).
I know what you mean about it not really being a horror story. I guess it's more that it has horror elements to it, but was still light-hearted enough to keep the mood up? I dunno. Sainth in comparison goes in a completely different tangent (not sure if that's good or bad.). Well if you're gonna play it, let me know how it goes :).
I still haven't unlocked all the "meanwhile" scenes, or the "making of" file, though. How are they unlocked?
By finding all the cutscene CG's. You need to get them all to unlock all of them. I'm not sure if I made any 'Making of' files though. I don't think that became a habit for me until my second game (Alter Aila).

It's cool that you're still willing to perform bugfixes on such an old game! A lot of developers seem to want to distance themselves from their old work, and refuse to touch any of it once they've moved on to greater pastures, in my experience. I'll download the bugfix and see if I can finish the game tomorrow.
For good reason! Honestly, I pretty much took a completely blind shot in terms of fixing that bug and somehow it worked. The code is so shoddy that trying to figure out what's causing it really is trying to find a needle in a haystack.

By the way, I was thinking of making a TV Tropes page for this. I've already thought of a number of tropes that would fit, but I cannot for the life of me think of a good description. If anyone's interested in a TVT article, I'd appreciate it if they could write a description for the game!
Haha really? That'd be neat to see. Does it have to be a certain length? You can use the one on this gamepage if that'll work.

Heys, thanks for the feedback. Yeah since it's my first game, there's a lot of really glaring issues and bad designing decisions that I'd know better than to do now (gotta start somewhere right?).
I have no idea why that game-breaking bug occurs, but I applied some kind of fix and it seems to work so hopefully that problem can be considered solved. I've uploaded a new version so try that (also fixed the lab door opening sound to be less grating). For some reason it only seems to occur in that room (at least as far as I can tell. Let me know if it happens anywhere else).
For your second point:
Nah, it only affects the CG that comes up if you get through the fight (there's 2 CG's that can show up depending on whether you did or didn't use the Soul Mirror). It's mainly in case you didn't have enough lightstones/ soul to get through that part, plus its obscurity seeing as it's hiding behind the Hand tool, which is more or less useless the entire game.
And on your last point, Kana'll still use a lightstone anyways (so nah, I didn't make any alternate cutscenes in case that happened :P)

Unfortunately, it's not as good :(. It was mostly just to test out how feasible it was to make a side-scroller style game in RPG Maker, so it's more for the atmosphere and story (which takes a really solemn serious turn).
Still, at least you don't have to worry about the wraith popping out from nowhere and taking a week or two off your life :P.
Several parts of this thing were freaking creepypasta material, man. Creepy as heck. At one point, I even got so into the story I had to cap my hand over my mouth not to scream and freakout my housemates because there was a part I was anticipating.
Apart from a very spelling and punctuation mistakes, and the last few scenes being long (maybe shoudld have been broken up a bit, or at least given us a text speed-up option), the game rocked. Lots of detail. May have worked better as a comic or story than a game, but there's some dramatic parts that the music and tension just made. The art's better, too. I've only gotten the bad ending so far (Curse you, you tear-jerker scene creator!!), but I'm ready for another go. ^-^
Haha, glad to hear you enjoyed it. Though to be honest, I'm not sure I like the direction I went with this. I had another idea for the sequel that followed the gameplay style of the first Wraith a lot better (which I think I touch on in the Afterword). Sometimes I wish I had gone with that idea.
