[Demo] Everything Turns Gray - First Real Demo! & [Short Game] Vermicide

The sad sad story of Sexy, the red-haired ponytail outlaw:

Name: Sexy
Hairstyle: Red-hair ponytailed femme fatale
Class: Outlaw

Well after the intro sequence, lone Sexy fought a swarm of spiders and immediately got confused and died a horrible death consisting of thousands of tiny spider bites.

Reload

Sexy found her way to an abandoned mall. There, 2 highway men confronted her! Sexy fought valiantly, but was ultimately no match.

Reload

Sexy decides in her third life that she probably shouldn't fight anymore. All battles henceforth can be summarized with the phrase "Run for your life". Being an outlaw, Sexy has the truly useful skill of "Stealth", which allows her to tiptop around without alerting the locals. About 30 seconds into this, Sexy gets tired of sneaking around and goes back to proudly proclaiming her presence to the world! Oh Sexy, how are you ever going to make it in the cold, cruel world if you can't sneak long enough to at least search one building? In any case, Sexy finds her way into a store and proudly proceeds in to scavenge for goods. An invisible turrent comes out of nowhere and spits hot lead at Sexy for intruding on the premises! Sexy died, never having a chance..

Reload

In her fourth life, Sexy discovers a terminal which controls the invisible turrent. It's a good thing that everything that happens in her previous lives carry over to her current one, so she knows to disarm the invisible turrent this time! Sexy proceeds to hack the terminal and takes around 300 points in electric discharge damage. But in the end, she prevails in hacking! At this point, Sexy takes stock of her current situation. HP is 1. TP is 0. Water Stock: 10. Food Stock: 0. Lockpicks: 0. It's gonna be one of those days..

The last I heard of Sexy, she was trying to get Food from an elderly veteran of the world war, who was selling everything BUT Food (and Water). Don't worry Sexy, most humans can live for weeks without Food! As long as you have Water, everything'll be fine...

New patch up!

December 23, 2008

Change Log:
- Fixed an unfair game over situation in the 2nd boss fight
- Fixed a problem with the cutscene in the Outskirts after Sphere - Area 3
- Added a second Save Point to Sphere - Area 3
- Changed the system to rely far less on using Z to interact with the environment
- Jump or climb down by pressing down at a ledge
- Interact with things in the foreground/ background by pressing up or down.
- Changed some of the item drops
- Fixed some errors with the world map
- Changed what happens when you find a secret area
- Added option to skip cutscenes.
- Choose whether to skip or not by using the Personal Device - Configuration
- Changed cutscene after Sphere - Area 1
- Fixed up some graphical errors and coding
- Fixed an error where walking onto a new map causes you to go back
- Fixed a bug where if you hold Shift while leaving an area, then release it, you'll be running, but slowed down

There are a huge amount of things changed in this one, the most prominent being that you no longer have to press Z except to select commands. Everything can be interacted with by pressing just Up or Down. This works better with the "Press Z to Initiate Combat" system, so there you go.

Also, anyone who still can't activate their Save Cube or Personal Device, go to the World Map, enter the menu from there. That'll fix it up so that when you enter a dungeon, you'll be able to use it.

I'm still getting around to balancing enemy encounters, so that'll come in the next patch.

I noticed, however, that you still have to press down to jump from small ledges.

In some places, you'll be able to both jump forward and climb down, that's why it's like that. I have also added the option to skip cutscenes. You can find the option to activate it under Personal Device - Configuration.

> Skie Fortress

Oh you..! :P

That might happen if the database changes (I'm guessing from applying a patch). Just activate the save again and it'll go away.

> Fallen

Thanks for the review. On insomnia: This is a re-make of the very first game, and in that one, every single playable character (with exception of course) has their memories erased. I figured that was really no good and wanted to remove it for the remake, but since the original story has a big chunk of its roots in who the main character was, that's why it stayed. Don't worry, it doesn't come up much at all once the game progresses.

I left a lot of doors in there to create more of a sense of realism in the design, but I guess that's a tough call to make when the corridors themselves aren't very realistic.

EDIT: Blah, there's an error with cutscene 3. Will fix in next patch.

Chrono Trigger DS

For me, Giga Gaia was never much of a problem. The Golems were the only boss that barred me for more than two fights. I suppose that's what I get for trying to beat them in a straight up muscle contest.

I did manage to prevail in the end though. Oh Ayla why are you so awesome? Because you are awesome, that's why.

Okay, I have a request.

This is a patch that changes the way movement works in "Main Area" and "Sphere - Area 1". I've made it so that it doesn't require you to press Z to enter doors, climb ledges, etc. Could people test it and let me know if they prefer this system, or the old one?

EDIT: Testing complete. Thanks everyone :)

If I included the RTP in Everything Turns Gray's main download, it would be 140 MB in size. I feel like THAT would alienate a lot of people, too. Don't you? : (

Yes it would, very much so!

I would tell you to only include the files you used, but I'm sure it'd be pretty difficult if you haven't been keeping track of that. Just keep it in mind for future games, I guess!

Edit: Actually Max, I think I'll just wait for Craze to get back to me with information on alligator lolis rtp 1.3 since I want to play his game too. Thanks anyways, though!

Neok, craze was joking/ mocking Fallen-Griever! The regular RTP will be perfectly fine for both of our games. There is thankfully in fact no such thing as an "RTP 1.3" for RMVX. : )

You mean.. no alligator lolis? :'(

Anyways, I don't mind downloading the RTP this time. But since I'm always in a constant battle for harddrive space and I don't see myself downloading more VX games in the immediate future, I'm probably not going to keep it around after I'm done.

In the future, you and other VX users should really consider reaching out to more people than just those who automatically have VX RTP installed (specifically newcomers and obsessive neat freaks like me who really can't be bothered to keep junk on their system to potentially play games in the future). I can guaranteed that a lot of people who saw your game probably thought it looked cool, but didn't bother to try it or say anything because it involved more than just "download, extract, run". People are inherently lazy after all!

Internet persona vs "Real life" persona

I am very much as impatient and smarmy IRL as I am not IRL!

I use to be less smarmy though, if that counts for anything.

One helping of Lite w/ RTP please :)

\/ I applaud GRS for summing up the arguments that I don't have the patience to do ;D

Whatever people! Like I say, it's up to the creator whether he wants more potential players for his or her game or not. I'm honestly not going to debate the pro's and con's of making a game more readily accessible. You guys can judge for yourself.
