FLYINGJESTER'S PROFILE

I am the Jester.

I make games using JavaScript, C, C++, Mercury, Java, Assembly (amd64 and UltraSparc) and Python. I used to use Sphere a lot, but I'm more into C/C++ and Mercury nowadays. I still use JavaScript and embed it sometimes, and I usually use Python for build systems and system management.

I wrote TurboSphere, which is a recreation of the Sphere Game Engine with a number of major improvements. I'm not really working on it anymore.

I'm surely going to finish making a game someday. I mean, sooner or later, it's bound to happen. Right?

Mods and Bots Mafia - Game Over

Here's the thing: I am immediately suspicious of anyone who uses the word 'bandwagoning' next to my name.

To be fair, at a certain point you literally said:

Hopping onto bandwagons? I just CREATED a bandwagon

Ah, I see. I thought that each of the chosen town could only be doxxed and not cracked, regardless of if the other was still alive or not.

So actually, there's no real advantage for the remaining chosen town once the other was doxxed, is there?

Or maybe I just don't know what "flip Chosen Town" means?

Mods and Bots Mafia - Game Over

Wait, how? I thought the chosen town could only die by lynching?

Games you hate or dislike?

I tried to play Star Fox Adventures again today.

It's not really a bad game, it's OK. But it's just so...OK. The story isn't terrible, but it's not very notable, either. It takes place in such generic areas (ice world, fire world, tropical world, and dinosaurs everywhere...what is this, Diddy Kong Racing?) The characters are borderline annoying, although I do like the somewhat more cinematic dialog sections.

But Tricky is just a little shit. He says the most annoying things, I just mute the game. And given the very mediocre music and generic sound effects, I guess it's not too big a loss.

So I guess I would just say 6/10. But then there are the flying stages. Again, extra mediocre. But they are designed explicitly to remind of Star Fox 64. Which was an insanely fun game. I can play that game over and over again. I can play that game any day of the week. I can still put that game in, I know every quote, I know where everything is, but it's still tons of fun. They even somehow managed to make just going for points fun, when that had gone out of style ten years before.

Why taunt me with that? Because it should make me nostalgic? Because it's in the same series? No. That's what makes this game terrible, because it is just not even close to being as good as the earlier games.

I replace attempted perfection with obvious honesty.

This is how it feels using my tools on my circa 2014 MacBook Pro. A lot of people say it's overengineered in its construction. They obviously haven't tried opening a Dell or HP made in the last five years, either.

My screen's LCD is damaged (lots of lines of solid color in the last inch on the far right of the screen), and I just got the replacement today. I started to remove the glass from the front (honest glass, not plastic). It's simply impossible. They used a very strong glue, and even with an excessive amount of hear (far more than I would use if the LCD was still something I wanted to save), I just couldn't get the glass off. So I just went a little more aggressive, and it immediately cracked. Not a big crack, but this is clearly the end. There is no saving the glass now.

I far prefer large laptops (17 inch is my preferred size, although fewer and fewer companies make very many anymore). So I opted for the 15-inch MacBook (I didn't have to pay for mine, so it was an honest choice, not even considering cost).

It turns out the 15-inch late 2013 MacBook Pro is so uncommon that no one makes the replacement glass for it, only the 13-inch model. Well, Apple clearly has replacement parts, but I'm not going down that route.

So I was pondering looking for a similar model of MacBook to use glass for, but it only needs to be a millimeter too big in either direction and it simply will not work.

So I looked up how expensive 0.040 inch lexan is. Turns out, you can get a 4 foot by 2 foot sheet for 20 dollars, and with only 30 dollar shipping. So I decided to order that. I've worked a lot with lexan to make computer case components, so I know it's well within my capabilities to make a passable replacement for the unobtainium glass out of lexan. While I'm at it, I have some old laptop screws I can use to affix it. Instead of using glue, I'll just drill a few holes in the lexan, and use longer LCD mounting screws through the lexan.

That's my new plan.

SDL2 is a very nice graphics library for C. It's one of the more straightforward graphics libraries (I learned C while learning how to use it), but it's also one of the most capable.

You may want to look into the "Control Codes" for the terminal/console. They are small sequences of bytes you can write out that will change the color or style of the characters. You could use them, for instance, to make units for each side a different color to help differentiate them.

Alternatively, if you wanted to keep using the terminal, you may want to look into the termcap or ncurses libraries. They are primarily for Linux/Unix, but I believe there are ports to Windows as well. They definitely work under Cygwin for Windows, at the very least.

The chosen town don't know they are the chosen town.

Am I the only one who read the rules?

Hmm, Dudesoft has been awfully quiet. Then again, in the middle of the night Isrieri tried to lynch me while nobody was looking...

Makes you think.

I'm on OS X, so I had to run it under Wine. It displays just fine, but it does not seem to accept input. I highly suspect that's just because it's on Wine :)

I was hoping for open source so I could see if it compiles on OS X or Linux.
