What's wrong with a big head? It can either portray a younger character (say 14-16 in this case), or it can just be a toon-style. If the style of the game is more whimsical (EG: FF IX), then it works great, as long as things are consistent to that style.

Considering how little is posted about this project, I'd wait until later to see if the head size is a problem.

I love the rockface and slope areas: the colour choices in particular are spot on. The grass however is a little plain and has some "grid" left in it. I'd suggest adding in another type of grass (probably a lighter shade) so you can make some more interesting patterns. Either that, or add in dirt tiles.

Also, I'd like to see some kind of connection between the trees and the grass. Maybe some roots, or just some more grass growing up by it?

Finally, I think some shadows under the trees in the top-left could give the scene a big visual improvement.

RE: SegNin:

After checking the file with multiple anti-virus programs, and getting clean reports on the file, I sent config.exe to Avira to be tested as a false positive. After about three days, they emailed me back saying that indeed it was a false positive: there is no virus in the file (this shouldn't be really surprising since the file was directly taken from a release of Sphere likely built in XP).

Virus scanners usually just look for certain byte sequences when looking for a virus, and to save time/space/effort, they don't look for the entire virus, but just a particular part of it. As a result, they can sometimes falsely detect a virus. In these cases, scanning with a different scanner will usually tell you, since different scanners use different parts of the virus for testing.

Avira in particular though seems to have a rather "trigger-happy" detection scheme for CIH. Probable reason is that in the late 90's they were burned pretty badly by it: sent out a lot of their computers with the virus infected on them, and then six months later it activated. They probably weren't too happy about that.

The graphical style is awesome and I'll be looking back at this game's graphics (especially the tilesets) in the future when I move onto my next project. I hope Corey comes back to the project when it's in full swing again.

Keep 'em comming Hatch. Ika needs more games like yours.

What are you working on now?

I'm putting together the never ending tweeks for a platform game I've been works on forever, but will be released soon (Halloween was the original aim, but that may be a tiny bit too soon). My musician recently decided to improve some of the sounds I made for the game, so now I'm in sound effects heaven.

I know the fact that up is jump is a peeve to some (I know mainly from WIP), and nowadays I make a custom control menus so that everyone can map the keys the way they like, but coding a separate menu for it now would be more work than it's worth.

So instead, as listed in the notes at the end, you can change the input by editing the /startup/scripts/input.js file, if that would suit your fancy.

Jack

Believe me, he's well aware of it. The game was first posted on his site back in 2006, and I talked to him about it during production.

I will admit, I did not think of the possibility of a seizure while I was making this game. However, the possibility would seem rather slim: photosensitive seizures are very rarely caused by changes in colour alone (brightness is usually the problem), and usually takes a quick flash to do so. The game doesn't have flashes, and only changes the hue and not the luminance.

I doubt there will be a problem, but there's always a possibility. More likely I guess it may cause you to get a bit dizzy.
