Out Of Control Cops - A Serious Problem In America

how was he at all being racist towards whites. if you are saying he is racist you are also perhaps saying statistics are racist. and why is that all you seem to care about

That post quoted him, but it was directed at everyone who is pulling the white privilege card every 0.000005 seconds.

I care about it because I am offended by the concept of white privilege. We have the privilege not to be offended when people hate us and discriminate against us because of our race. To claim that, by birth, we have it easier and thus aren't allowed to organize, and don't deserve any breaks, is racist. I'm sorry, I cannot change my race.

If I were black, you wouldn't think twice. You'd be too scared to say anything. I would have immunity and any bigotry against me would be punished by a forum ban. But since I'm white, you have the freedom - no - the impetus to shit all over me.

So since I'm a human, who is a race, allow me to be offended by racism toward my race.

Anyone who thinks someone else doesn't deserve to be offended by bigotry specifically directed at them is a complete asshole.

to even assert that white lives aren't considered the most valuable lives in western society is beyond ignorant. white lives aren't likely to be considered "less valuable", even by people of color, in western society for a very long time, if ever. of course everyone has their own racial pride and favors their own race but that is only to a certain extent.

The answer to solving problems isn't causing new ones i.e. antagonizing white people. I understand - it's socially acceptable to be racist against whites, the kind of bigotry that white racism represents will not be discouraged on this forum, I'm going to be told I'm not allowed to be offended because I'm white, and it's not even considered racism by some especially wacky characters. But lay off the white racism, it's REALLY GETTING OLD.

Seriously, I'm getting really tired of it. Knock it off. I don't care how privileged you think I am, nothing justifies racial bigotry and hate.

Just be a decent person. Just because you can does not mean you should.

You seem to be correct on that observation, harmonic. Provided his interjection on these matters are intentional, what is the president's motive?

Eh, I think he just wanted to hear himself talk on the subject. Nothing deliberately sinister, but I think he should not be so cavalier with his words - which are arguably the most "heard" words of any human being on the planet.

OH MY GOD THIS IS SUCH COMPLETE BULLSHIT. Obama has urged people NOT TO RIOT every single time he has spoken on the issue.

Can you imagine the alternative? The US President giving a public directive to riot? It's more about him being a participant in the government machine that creates this circumstances.

Getting involved publicly in specific cases that the media has hyped up, for example - telling us that "Trayvon would look like his son" - ridiculously irresponsible and overstepping of his bounds in his current role. It just stirs people up unnecessarily.

I remember you posting that conspiracy theory video that the police were actually behind all the fires in Ferguson.

Good stuff.

While I'm certainly not going to deny there are issues - look at who's already on the case. Obama, the Justice department, big media - they're on it. And they've convinced a lot of people to go rioting in the streets about it.

Of course, their rabble-rousing tactics do have the "unintended" consequence of causing even greater racial tension and mistrust.

Honestly with THAT much power behind the "cops are bad" side, you'll probably be fine. I don't think it's a big issue compared to the systematic cultural dismantling of western civilization.

It's not so much her ass that is a problem, just that celebrities and their lives are used as a distraction for the more important stories that should be focussed on.

Perhaps if the news was written on Kim's ass, people would pay attention.

Out Of Control Cops - A Serious Problem In America

A damning statistic indeed. (Side note, normally comparisons like this are innacurate at best, because of America's much larger population, larger ethnic and income diversity, but when it's this bad, fine, let's go with it.)

I hardly think it's because America's cops have all gathered together and decided it's fun killin' people. Our government (look at the politicians, not their enforcing arm) has created these conditions over generations. Urban blight and white flight are not the cops' fault.

I know, it's easy to hate on cops because they tend to give people speeding tickets and they're big and mean and tell you what to do. But they're trained to follow a set of rules, and defend themselves with lethal force if they feel threatened. And then they're expected to enforce, with physical violence, laws against the selling of cigs outside of the original package. Absurd. What are they, vulcans?

Under these circumstances, of course there's going to be a lot of mishaps, slipping through the cracks, stress-related outbursts. I have a feeling that some people are so naive that they believe everything would be shitting rainbows and smiles if the cops would just be nicer.

Police brutality is an issue yes. Yes there's corruption, yes the Eric Garner case was bullshit. And I've acknowledged this multiple times. I simply think it's a symptom, not a root cause.

Fuck Christmas

Just another opportunity for the poor/lonely to be reminded how poor/lonely they are.

police wouldn't be facing public scrutiny if for the last couple of decades (probably longer) if they weren't just instruments higher classes use to deal with lower classes

This.

With all the obsession about racial or gender privilege, class privilege has flown under the radar. It is, by far, the most pervasive and real of the methods of privilege.

I don't agree with this. he suffocated, but it was caused by a litany of health conditions he had that were triggered by the cop who subdued him. I definitely things escalated to a physical takedown way too fast, but I can't really say the cop was at fault either. If the cop did use a chokehold (constriction of airway,) it was for about 3 seconds. He definitely shouldn't have done this, but I would say it was emphatically not the reason Garner died, either. you could have probably slapped him on the back and his heart would have exploded.

While you are empirically correct, Garner's death was ruled a homicide by compression of neck. Just as in the Mike Brown case, we have no real reason to question the medical conclusions.

When a man is saying repeatedly "I can't breathe" in that context, for someone to be so sociopathic as to continue the physical conditions after hearing that, there's a problem.

It's not murder, but it's criminal negligence in my opinion. At the very least, it's grounds for termination and revoking of the ability to be a cop.
