Hi I'm Abba, Self taught game-dev/programmer, and long-time 2Dartist & graphic designer. working in Unity, Game Maker Studio and now, RPG maker, I haven't chosen between VX Ace and XP yet, I'm sure I eventually will. My first attempt at a game in it is going to be with XP though. I'm a father, a Gamer, a Husband, and a strong believer in the power of games to change the world.
I hope to be a contributing member of this community, and find friends and colleagues of like mind, and open heart.

Seriously, good luck. Cap has it right though, start small, it's easier to control and keep focus that way.

Keep it small, man. Something in your name suggest that you are likely to abandon projects.

I strongly advice not being serious about RPGMaker. You'll get work done faster that way, and the product will probably be better as well.
At least that's my experience with game-making...

Game Maker Studio
As someone who has this product (Studio pro edition with html5 addon) I love it. It's not perfect mind you, but it is a robust, easy to use tool for prototyping and there are plenty of successful games out there that were either made completely in game maker or had their start in it. The cost is a bit prohibitive but they have regular sales. Good luck fellow devs and remain awesome!
