[SDK] Final Fantasy VII 2D Remake
geodude: Not really sure what you're implying there, unless you're picking up on my choice to use rm2k3 due to the resolution?
[SDK] Final Fantasy VII 2D Remake
I ripped it myself so no link. Having said that, you can find it in the picture folder as it was needed for the custom text system.
[SDK] Final Fantasy VII 2D Remake
Hey everyone! Soooo long story short, I've cancelled my FF72DR project and have decided to release the code for those who want to have a browse through it. The main reason I quit is to start on a new project where I'm coding an engine from scratch in C++, and I'd like to make something with my own IP. I've barely touched FF72DR in over a year as uni took hold, I gained a social life, and learned to program in real languages.
What you'll find in this download is the, more or less, fully functional FF7 CMS, and the battle system thats about 30% complete (no AI, spell data, spell calculations, animations or victory menu). There's no instructions and not a lot of it is commented so it might be *a bit* difficult to work out what code is doing what. I don't intend to write any tutorials on how to use it, but I will answer any specific questions via email (burningferret at hotmail dot com). I'll also be reading this thread from time to time, but best bet is my email.
Anyones welcome to pick up where I've left off, or build a game on top of menu. All I ask is I'm given credit where its due should you choose to do that.
Download here
Enjoy! :)

Best RPG Maker?
author=Fallen-Griever link=topic=3954.msg79297#msg79297 date=1244566999^ This. You don't actually have to know how to code in order to make use of the script feature (copy paste and follow instructions)
This is the worst advice ever. If you do not know how to edit the script you are using/do not understand how it works/do not understand what it might affect in terms of the other scripts used etc. then you should not be using scripts to develop games. Besides, "custom" scripts are there to be unique: using the same script as everyone else defeats the novelty scripts are supposed to introduce. If you're going to use the same CBS as everyone else you might as well pick the DBS with the relevant capabilities.
Anyway.
Use RMVX. If you aren't comfortable with the style of the RTP then get used to resizing resources from RM2K/3. This is especially true if you want to make a futuristic game - I still think EtG should use resized chips from RM2K/3 instead of those ridiculously chibi charactersets!

author=Craze link=topic=3630.msg74878#msg74878 date=1242215770Isn't it someone else's script anyway? I still fail to see the point of this...
What interesting things would I find in your archive except a buggy battle system?
Path of Light V1 DEMO RELEASED
I agree this definitely looks like a first game to me. Not because you're using RTP - I don't get why people care about this, everyone uses chipsets from the same 5 or so Snes games anyway - but because its just... bland. Generic story, default systems, etc. It sure as hell looks a lot better than my first attempt, but as a general rule of thumb you shouldn't post your first game on the internet. :P

author=Karsuman link=topic=3583.msg73977#msg73977 date=1241777920Thats the plan. Sadly I have to build the systems first in order to gauge the feasibility of the entire project. Theres been quite a few attempts at an FF7 2D remake before - so far as I can tell there have been 3 realistic attempts at it. All 3 failed because they couldn't implement the custom systems. So I figured that was the best place to start.
An impressive, if utterly pointless, effort.
Needs a game with it.

author=JosephSeraph link=topic=3583.msg73589#msg73589 date=1241566418While my systems are definitely designed with the ability to be plugged into any game. I doubt I'll ever make the code public, or release an SDK for others to use. I'm not saying this because I'm selfish, but its really a precaution to prevent the rm2k3 scene being flooded by poorly concieved prequels/sequels. Anyone who's serious about putting time into a venture like that should have the motivation to make their own systems. This is basically the same problem plaguing XP and VX due to the widespread availability of system scripts - there is no form of quality assurance because anyone can get their hands on systems to support their game. In the bigger picture, I don't think anyone would benefit from me releasing the code for the systems.author=VerifyedRasta link=topic=3583.msg73362#msg73362 date=1241452293i don`t think it`d be any better if the menu was horridly laggy with the autoscroll> somethings are just impossible with rpg two thousand three< and reminding this is just bothering< really>
Like Darken said, the lack of auto scroll is a real pain, but other than that it's a great replica.
p>s: i wrote two thousand three because i am with an adherence keys problem> i am not retarded>

author=Blitzen link=topic=3630.msg73936#msg73936 date=1241750714Its pretty clear that his system is not using any of the algorithms or stats from the game. I'm not sure what this has to do with FF7 aside from the sprites.
Your game is obviously broken there is no way aeris would have less MP than cloud at equal levels because she is the heaviest magic user of the whole game

author=JosephSeraph link=topic=3583.msg72202#msg72202 date=1240619661I forgot to mention that the final limit break items are NYI. I've observed *most* of their phrases, but in order to have it completely accurate I need a PSX save that has every char with all but their L4 limit so I can record what they say when you try to teach them the wrong limit and when you teach them the right limit.
The only thing i noticed(besides the lag, wich i don´t care, the awesomeness more than pays for it.)
Is that the character don´t say "It´s not mine", etc. when we use wrong limit items on them. also... There s a version of RPG maker2k3 (patch), called "goliath", it allows up to ONE HUNDRED pictures, and also, it permits MP3. So well we can hear it from the EDITOR LIST!!!
I have nothing to say besides "AWESOME". I´m not a fan of FFVII(though i liked it)
, but still, your project caught my attention as nothing else did. and i´m dazzzzzzzzled.
By the way, if you´re not going to use charsets for the map, wich is goddamn hard, i can rip the 3D models in sprites, in 8 directions, or 16. maybe. And i´d need LOTS, TONS, HEAPS of help.. but i´d do it, with pleasure. You´re so awesome..
Also I'm using Cherry's Hyper Patcher2 which lets me use 126 pictures at the moment. And by MP3 support being NYI I meant that I hadn't put in the code that would either play a Midi or MP3 depending on what mode you'd set. I didn't mean that it couldn't play MP3's.
