Chipset handeling by RPG Maker 2003

I'm glad it's still helpfull for some people! I login at this site once in a few months, so I guess I could help you out with this one.

I actually had to think hard about this one, it has been a long time since I worked with the program, but I do have an awnser for you!

The square icon is an option you mainly use for ceiling tiles. It makes you walk under the top tiles of the ceiling. So if you for example made a house and use a ceilingtile as a flat roof, you can walk under the 1 tile strip back part of the house. It's basicly a 'star' and 'cross' combined.

A more visual example:

G = grass (at "circle")
C = ceiling (at "square", but acting as "star")
R = same ceiling (at "square", but acting as "cross")
W = wall (at "cross").

Ara Fell

Man I just discovered you were working on Era Fell again (well, for three years allready lol). It's great to see you found the time to make a commercial version out of this game!

It brings back real feels to see a game like this being updated. I remember the good old days when we worked on our games side by side and shared screenshots on the forums.

I'm really happy to see you making a commercial succes out of this! Meanwhile I've got three projects on permanent hold and some crappy ones linked to my profile haha.

Just out of curiousity: was it hard to convert your 'original' game to the legal rm2k3 version? And how did you get around using these graphics, weren't they licensed or something?

If I understand you correctly all you have to do is click on the desired transparant colour when importing the tileset.

I might just be an idiot, But I'm having a very tiring time trying to figure out what is wrong with my Chipset. It imports without problems, and then the entire screen goes to a shaded pink. I test play the game, and the entire game screen is Pink. Help would be appreciated. (:

Your timing is spot on. I haven't checked this site for 2 months haha.

Anyways to awnser your question: When you import your chipset you have to set the transparant colour. While importing it you select the colour and it will start flashing. If this won't help you probably have two slots of the same pink in your 256 colourpalette.

The "new" RM2k3 engine

I would agree to WIP's points, but it's a pretty messy subject in my opinion.

After 12 years EB finally decided to give us a legal version of RM2k3, but we have been asking for this for from te beginning. It's nice that they finally released a legal version and they are 100% in there right to enforce using the legal version, but after all this time, does this mean we/rmn also need to change our stance to old rm2k3 projects.

I for one would cut myself in my hands deeply if I would agree to a ban on new projects for that old maker. As it happens to be I haven't been active in the rm2k3 community for a long time, but I still have 2 old projects lying around I plan to "finish". They are indeed made with the illigal version of Rm2k3 and they also use some patches. I haven't made a gameprofile for them yet, but it would mean I wouldn't be able too.

I would be more than happy to pay the 20 bucks for the new maker, but as it appears, you guys say you can't use patches for it ;_;.

Single screen game? I like the concept!

I have to make a mental note about this, it might make me join a contest again in the future =).

It wasn't something that people ever took seriously. Was it? There were like five people on Don Miguel's board who swore by it, and admittedly a fair number of people who were so bad at mapping that it was an upgrade for them, but most everyone tried it for a couple maps or just thought about it for a moment and was like "yeah this is stupid." But it has continued to get brought up all the time, generally as a joke, with people constantly implying that it is holy writ. Pretty much exactly like the claims that makerscore matters, really.

It was actually something people took seriously.

However (for people not familiar with this rule), unlike implied by Liberty, the three tile rule was mainly focused on cliff tiles and other "nature structures". Ground tiles probably "need" to follow the "not more then one in one line" rule.

It was a weird period though. We all tried to make our games look cool with picture effects and (hand)drawn graphics that probably didn't work at the low resolution. It actually makes me laugh how much we tried to make our games look like a higher resolution, but when XP came out we said we didn't like the higher resolution XD.
