Omnisia

Thanks for the comments. I'm surprised people are still playing, after all these years!
In retrospect, there's much I would change, from dialogue to eliminating random encounters entirely, or at least finding a more suitable battle system. All in all, though, this was a great first game to learn from. For those who enjoyed the puzzles in here, I'm working on a rather more ambitious project, but hopefully one that will be much more fun!

Silviera's Review Requests

It looks like you're actually running out of games to review. Well, I've done some slight revisions to Omnisia based on your review (shouldn't be too difficult to figure out where to go now; several puzzles have better hints, too). If you ever get the time, I'd appreciate if you could finish up at least the final dungeon.

Omnisia Review

Thanks for the in depth review. Just a side comment before I reply to some of your criticism: this was pretty much a learning game for me (created about 2 years ago, in fact). But I know that's no excuse; I agree with most of your comments entirely, and I'll be taking in everything you said.

Regarding music, I did in fact add other composed pieces not found in the RTP, mainly for boss fights and dungeons. I'm sure cutscenes could have used better moods, though.

I understand the battle system needs work; it was one of the least touched areas in the project (I despised messing with numbers, balancing was always a difficult area for me). I thought the skill scrolls were a nice touch in place of learning through leveling, but I agree they could have been more common. Perhaps adding more skills throughout would make fighting less tedious.

I'll remember to watch my consistency. It was a problem for me, since RTP tiles looked so unremarkable, making it hard to distinguish between actual events and background tiles. Next time, I'll just have one graphic for each event.

About direction, I think, as a creator, I left far too little or too subtle clues around for the player, assuming they'd immediately get it, or search every room and talk to every NPC to proceed. That was a problem not just to proceed the plot, but in dungeons, too. I'll make sure to add more obvious hints that lead the player in the right direction.

I'm sorry you had to quit then (IMO, the final dungeon contained the most interesting puzzles). But thanks for putting the time into this review. I'll work on those areas.

Yes. Don't know why you're having trouble (it works for me), but try SegNin's link if you can't download it off the site.

Narrative theory

Onomatopoeic words are useful. I find it more natural putting in "haha!" rather than *laughs*. I generally stay away from those written emotes, although I am guilty of using them once in awhile. However, it's best to incorporate the feeling or action you want into the text itself-- make the player infer that the character is joking or really angry through tone, don't just state it.

The 9 things that I have learned from the RMNCasts

As long as they're not overdone, I don't find pauses very annoying. In fact, they're quite useful in between long blocks of text for the player to process info.

Still, I'd add a function that writes all text at once, or faster, for those who want to get through it quickly (like when I test a cutscene for the 10th time).

Are you less likely to play a demo than a completed game?

I don't mind demos as long as they have a considerable amount of content-- i.e., at least 2-3 hours of gameplay. And I'm generally the impatient type so if your advertising is good, chances are I'll download the demo instead of waiting for the full thing.

Hmm

Perhaps I was pondering some deep philosophical meaning of life before I decided to introduce myself here.

Hmm

What's all this about Enterbrain? .org's not associated with them. And even if they wanted sites I would think they'd go for IGM rather than RM.

Omnisia

Looks like it's working now. Enjoy!
