Life got in the way, no IGMC entry this year, it's kind of sad, but also good that I had AFK obligations that were meaningful and fulfilling.

Even though IGMC is such a great opportunity to release your game, I'm going to have to wait to release it in my own time.
Actually, it's a pretty bad time to release, considering 700+ other games are also getting released around the same time. Sorry to hear you're dropping out. But yeah, one month to make a game where only the first hour of content matters is a lot more gruelling than you'd expect. I took a massive number of shortcuts, and am still only really finishing up a few days before the deadline.
A clash of ideas
Don't get distracted. Especially if you want to go commercial one day, then you have to know how to prioritize and focus on what needs to be done to achieve your goals.
But at the same time, you should also understand that this contest won't necessarily get you where you want to go. There's going to be hundreds of entries, admittedly many crap ones, but also more than enough top contenders. Getting exposure? Don't count on it unless you place. Money? Same deal. At the very least, you shouldn't do this with the expectation that the judges will favour what you put out. Because while it's definitely great if they do, there is a very good chance that's not going to happen.
So what I'm saying is, if you're intent on doing this, do it because it's something that you want to do personally. Do it so that when you finish, your game will be something that you can be proud of, regardless of how it does in the competition. Anything after that is just a bonus.

Blog 2: Progress Update + Character Spotlight 1
Of demo releases and the IGMC
Hey Yuna, I'm doing a sci-fi game too for igmc. Wanna bump heads, and see if we could collaborate on this one?
I want to buy you into slavery
Okay! Let me experiment a bit, and get back to you guys. So far, I've got you two, + another cool cat that haven't posted here.
Also, here is this thing which may or may not be related to said experiments.
Hey, I didn't use anything special. It's really just the default movement system, except that I blocked off being able to move up and down, except in special circumstances, like when you're in water or floating. The only really hard part, is having to event all the places where the character can jump, drop down, etc.

Look, what community, forum, program etc. did you use to develop and make the characters as side scroll and is there like a tutorial to map out how the characters can side scroll like that? That's neat.

It's too late for me, but this is still very cool. I bought it just to support the fact that it exists, but I dunno if I'll actually seriously use it.
Yeah, to be honest, I'm already too corrupted by vx ace to want to go back, but I AM sorta entertaining the idea of ripping out and replacing all the ripped resources in that one game of mine and dropping it onto steam.
(Whether steam takes it or not is another story)

I use Photoshop for everything as well, mostly just because I don't really feel like learning another graphics program again.
