World In Danger

World In Danger is coming along swimmingly and I wanted to do something fun to promote it. To that end I came up with this: A contest where the winner will be made into or can personally design a playable character!

What does it mean to become/design a playable character
Simply put I will make a playable character in the game based on or designed by this contests winner. It would be best explained with these example images.


Here is a basic breakdown of the process. The winner sends me either a portrait picture or even a portrait drawing. From which I will first make a face portrait in the style as it is featured in the game. Say hello to Sergio, an online friend of mine who helped out with some dialog and in return got made into a playable character; just like the reward for this contest.
The winner will also get to further describe what the character should be wearing, what weapons they want to use. Based on your descriptions (and pictures if you have something specific) I'll create the ingame sprite.


The character can be selected trough the character selection menu just before a mission starts. In this menu the character's stats and weapons are displayed plus a short bio of who they are and why they joined the heroes of World In Danger in battle against evil.

During the game's freeroam mode, all playable characters can be talked to and even these conversations are all up to you (the winner of the contest). Allowing you to fully flesh out the character.

How to win the contest and personalized demo's
For this contest I've made a dummy website of World In Danger's ingame fictional army, the World Army. Here contestants can "join" the World Army and receive both a codename and a personalized combat simulator.
This combat simulator is a demo version of the full World In Danger game, containing only one mission.
The contest tasks the player to play this combat simulator and earn a ranking by completing the mission. And send in this ranking to the world army website to be featured on the combat simulator ranking list
The contestant with the highest score on that ranking list by the end of the contest, will be declared the winner.

Wait, personalized combat simulator? What is that
This will give you a small taste of what it would be like to be made into a playable character. As part of the World Army's application form, the contestant/applicant is asked to send in a portrait photo. From this photo I'll create a World Army soldier character featuring the contestants face! And this is the character you will be controlling during the combat simulator.

As was done for the first contestant codenamed: "Intellectual Lion"

Consolation and participation prizes
While the winner of the contest will be made into a playable character; there are still some roles in World In Danger that need to be filled. Minor characters featured in cutscenes or NPCs encountered during the freeroam mode. So instead of making a random character from scratch, runner op contestants will get to fill these roles. With the higher scoring contestants earning the bigger roles.


And for entering the contest alone your already get to name and select the appearance of a hostage.
