Lag Killer & New Download

Hi peoples!

Got a pretty big update, and it's that I think I somewhat killed the L-A-G present on the Overworld (especially in late game). I've also fixed up a few passabilities in some areas, and I believe I fixed the whole post-game bug-whenever-entering-moon-caves-thingie. I've posted a new download for the game with these new updates (Google Drive) so I hope you'll take advantage. Oh, and you'll want to start a new save for the game after downloading this updated version. Old saves will work, but they'll be all wonky when going back and forth between Overworld and towns/dungeons.

Here's hoping the game performs better, and thank you all for your support! =)

Over 2000 Downloads! Thank you!

I came on to check a few things, and I noticed that FFIVAD just hit over 2000 total downloads! Thank you all so much, and I hope that you're all enjoying it! As for an update, a lot of life has happened so my Xenogears fangame and FFIVAD sequel was put on the backburner for a time, but now I'm starting to get back into the swing of things.

I'll be focusing on the sequel to FFIVAD for the time being, and I'm calling it Final Fantasy IV Nemesis Fate. As for details on the sequel, I don't have much to offer, except that the game will NOT be based on The After Years for the most part. I'll be drawing inspiration for specific scenes from The After Years probably, but the sequel is going to be more of its own animal.

I'll be using Brave Exvius rips for the enemies and other graphics, but the game will have more of a GBA assets look to it. Again, thank you so much, and look for the sequel page to go up in a few months!

2016 Misaos & Many Thanks!

Hi everybody! Just wanted to say a tremendous thank you to everyone who voted for FF4AD! The game won "Best Fan-Game" and "Lawsuit Waiting To Happen"! Woooo! =D Thank you so much! I'm glad people found this game enjoyable, as I really enjoyed creating it! I learned a lot from the process, and I'm taking all of your feedback and critiques with me as I continue work on my next few projects.

As an update, I'm still trying to get the proper assets organized for my Xenogears project (which is why you won't see a page up here yet for it), and I've got the sequel to Alter Destiny in the works as well. Just a little update for you all, and again, thank you so much! You guys are awesome!

Update & New Game Announcement

First I'd just like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who downloaded FF4AD! The game is nearing 1,000 total downloads and that's amazing! While it's got a few issues (namely that lag which I have an idea how to get rid of it), I'm very proud of my first completed game and I'm so glad people are enjoying it. =D

I will be putting out a significant update for the game hopefully within the next month or two, once I've completely fixed the lag issue and some tileset passability errors and a few other small things I noticed during some of the lets plays I've been watching.

With that update out of the way, I'd like to talk with you all about my next game. I've been debating back and forth with myself of doing an alternate take on Final Fantasy Tactics, a remake of Langrisser 1 (known as Warsong for the Genesis), a prequel to Final Fantasy X (featuring Auron, Braska, and Jecht), or something else entirely.

I'm going with the something else entirely. A complete, 2D remake of a 3D game from the PS1 era. Doubtless there will be some different events, and an upgraded script from the original, but it's considered a masterpiece by many and a game I absolutely love. It's also a massive undertaking, one I'm not shy about knowing this is likely to take years. The game is...

That's right, folks. Xenogears. I'm going to attempt what many think is improbable. What makes me different from others who may have tried this before, is that I'm actually going to do it. It's going to take years, I realize this, but I want this to be as authentic an experience in 2D as it can be. Saying that, I'm planning on using the MV engine since it renders in HD, and that the plugins I can use for it are pretty awesome and will work well with what I have in mind (Yanfly's battle engine has a great system for Deathblows).

Soooo...I'm putting out a call for artists/spriters out there interested in working on this project. For the kind of style I'm going for, the world map will be an animated parallax map, and while I have purchased tilesets and even character creation packs from PVGames, I don't think they're going to be the right type of art style for an anime-type game like this one. Sure, I could just remake all the characters and NPCs using the editor's generator and just rip the enemies from the 'net as much as I can, but I think that's a bit bland as well. I'm not an artist, so that's why I'm putting out this call. To give the game that added "oomph" in the art department it really ought to have.

The graphics I'll need help with are: field sprites, enemies (if I have to just use upscaled rips I'll do that), character battlers, and tileset creation and/or parallax map assistance. Whatever I gotta do on my own I'll do my best, and if it ends up I gotta do it all then so be it, but there's only so much I can do and make it look decent in the graphics department. =P

If you're interested, DM me or comment here and let me know what you'd like to help with. Just know I can't pay you (I can barely afford to pay me these days), so this is strictly a passion project. A massive one for sure, but one I know we can have a ton of fun creating. Thanks!

Definitive Version & Happy 4th!

Hi folks out in RMN land! So I wanted to give this big update for FF4AD. Version 3.0 is now up on the downloads and is THE definitive version of the game. This version includes:

No requirement for you to have the RTP pre-installed
Its own installation program (and new desktop icon closely approximating how SE does theirs for their Steam games)
Battle Programming Script fixes and upgrades (thanks to RydiaMist for these!)
All previous fixes and balancing

After going through the game several times with all of these programming fixes and upgrades, I do believe 3.0 is the definitive and final version of the game. Additionally, if you've got an existing save prior to version 2.9.2 then do NOT apply the latest Data Patch if you wish to keep going with your save. VX Ace has this inherent bug when it comes to save files that programming additions/fixes made are incompatible with the save file made before those additions/fixes. If you want to take advantage of all the latest fixes and nuances of the game (especially with the escape fix during battle), then I highly suggest starting over with a fresh save.

This is my little present to everyone for the 4th of July. We're also close to almost 600 Total Downloads! Thank you guys and girls so much! I hope you're all enjoying the game. Happy 4th everyone! =D

I was just notified that FF4AD was featured in a Siliconera article! My mouth literally dropped open in shock that they would cover a fangame like this one. That's so insane to me. lol Also, I woke up and looked at the downloads today and we're fast approaching 500 Total downloads on here! Wow! Thank you guys and girls SO much and I hope you're enjoying it!

What's Next & Other Jazz

Hi folks! So now that things are pretty settled with Alter Destiny (I'm thinking the current version 2.4 is likely the definitive version), I just wanted to take a moment and thank everyone again for their feedback and input. I hope I did justice to the FF 4 name with Alter Destiny. It was a huge labor of love, and something I've been very passionate about doing right.

Now that the game is completed and out there, I'm going to take a little time to relax when I'm not working for about a week or two before I get into the next project. Yes there's going to be another project I'm going to start working on. *drum roll*

See I've always loved tactical RPGs, and my THE favorite one out of all of them is Final Fantasy Tactics. Especially the PSP version. The story, the depth of the characters, the combat, everything about it is a perfect 10 in my book. One of the greatest games ever made in my opinion. I've always wondered though, what would it be like to play that game as a classic FF-styled turn-based game? What if events happened differently? What would be the outcome of these characters we know and love?

I'm going to attempt to answer those questions, by creating a game called Final Fantasy War of the Lions. I'm going to approach this as if it was meant to be a classic FF IV - VI type of game. I'm going to try my hand at the MV engine for this one, and see how it goes. I've already got tilesets and sprite sheets for MV I'll be using that I purchased, so this is going to use a ton of customized resources and very little ripped from the original game except enemies that have been remade in 2D for games like FFRK.

If anyone would like to contribute to this project just drop me a message and I'll welcome the help. =) I'll be putting up the game profile for it once I've got enough done for screenshots. Wish me luck!

Over 100 downloads! Wooohoo!

I can't even begin to express how awesome it is that you guys are enjoying the game. =) We're actually nearing almost 200 total downloads now that I look, and that is seriously awesome. So for a bit of an update, I did just a little while ago upload another Data patch, this time including the missing "Yang" file that some people need. There's also a few other fixes included for some minor grammar mistakes and tiling passabilities in the Cave of Eblan.

There's also now a Battle Difficulty setting as part of the in-game menu, in case you want things a bit easier or much more difficult. I've also put in an Anti-Lag script that has fixed the earlier lag issue on the overworld for the most part.

As always, you'll want to stay up-to-date with the latest Data patch and/or build that gets put up. We're up to 2.0 currently, and it's looking like 2.1 or 2.2 may be the definitive build now that (thanks to you guys) I've squashed most of the annoying bugs and people are getting through the whole game now.

Again thanks everyone and happy gaming!

Launch Update 2: Launchier

First I'd like to thank this community for the feedback and responses I've been getting. You guys and gals seriously rock! Thank you! I'm glad so many of you are enjoying the game! I'm actually a bit blown away by the positive response to be honest. Now, onto the details of this post.

In case you've downloaded and haven't noticed, there are multiple downloads in the Downloads area you can choose from. The Data patches are always updated first, since they're the smallest to upload and it's easy for people to just copy over the data files to fix an issue they've having. The Data patches are being updated continuously (as is the main build), so if you run into an issue it's likely already been addressed and fixed in one of the patches, or it will be quite soon.

The main build is up to 1.6 at the time of this writing, and it includes all the fixes to-date that the Data patch has. Eventually we'll get to the point where a particular build version is THE version to download, and that'll be that. In the meantime, I strongly encourage everyone playing the game that if you run across even a minor bug or misspelling to post it up on the game page or send me a DM. I can usually get a Data patch out within minutes of finding a bug and squashing it.

That's about it for this posting. I just need to reiterate my huge thanks to this community for helping me out with the game. Your feedback is most appreciated!

Launch update - Most of the bugs have been ironed out.

First, thanks goes out to everyone who has downloaded the game! I hope you're all enjoying it! There were a few bugs that slipped past me, but thanks to Gredge109 and sjmorgan most of the bugs have been ironed out and things are looking pretty smooth from here on out.

If you do find any other bugs or glitches please do post them up and I'll do my best to fix them immediately. I want this game to be as clean as it possibly can be. Again, my major thanks goes out to you guys in the community who have supported this project from the beginning. =)
