Mannux.. is not dead!

Ok so.. it has been a while hasn't it! I wanted to post though that Mannux is back in development, being redone in the Godot game engine. My itch.io page will be the primary source of updates on this game going forward, but I'll try to update it on here occasionally as well. The following devlog has a bit more info and a preview video!

Glad to be back to working on this once again!

Progress Report

Progress

It's been a while since I've posted here, but a wave of inspiration has hit me and I'm working on the game once more, this time for good. Part of it may have been from playing the truly fantastic Metroid 2 remake demo at http://metroid2remake.blogspot.com.ar/, seriously check it out! Corey is spriting again, adding some new frames for Tabby using a computer, and soon we plan on adding ledge grabbing and dashing abilities as well.

I have cleaned up the code a good bit and added in fully configurable keyboard and gamepad controls. Tabby's physics have been tweaked, she's no longer as fast and floaty and should be easier to control. Water physics have also been added.

Next up on my todo list are making events/cutscenes into the engine and finally getting platforms and entity collisions working 100%. I also want to add in at least a couple more enemy types. Once that is done I'll be comfortable enough to release a feature preview demo, to gather feedback for a more full blown release.

Maps are still the limiting factor on content, and though I am starting to get some help in that area, if anyone feels comfortable enough in ikaMap's editor to help me out I certainly won't turn down the offer! Anyone truly interested in the development of this game should check out https://code.google.com/p/mannux/, the wiki contains a preliminary mapping guide and additional design ideas. I still have to fully flesh out the remainder of the game world, paths, order of items, etc. But the pieces are coming together at last... :)

(Sorry for the formatting of this post, apparantly my phone eats line breaks for breakfast. Will fix when I'm back at a computer)

Progress Report

New screenshot

Not a whole ton of progress to report, over than that moving platforms are now working a lot better! Still a few more entity collision issues to work out but things are coming along on that front. I've also been playing around with some cool new lighting effects and enemy AI. Corey has been getting back into the swing of things with some new environments, you can check out a mockup screenshot of a new cave area in the images! Hopefully soon I'll get a bigger chunk of free time to really get going on this again, and start progressing towards a new demo!

Still alive...

This is kinda to see if anyone still watches this space. Real life had caught up with me for a while; a fulltime job, getting married and raising a family will do that! But I still have the itch and desire to make games... more important I got back in touch with the original artist, corey, so content and progress can begin anew! This game is nearly a decade old so who knows if there is interest anymore, but I'm gonna start plowing on. I have ideas and the knowhow to start implementing them. Time is still tight, but slow and steady will win this race. Time to make Mannux a reality!

If anyone sees this post and is still interested in this project, please post in the comments! Any and all feedback is appreciated.

Mannux Preview Video posted to Youtube!

Seeing as I haven't made an update in a little while, I figured I'd do something a little more visual. I posted a gameplay preview to Youtube! There is some new content in there but most of it you would have seen if you have played the demo. But still worth a look!

I'm gonna try to have some more content again soon!

Just a quick update

Just letting everyone know Mannux is still being worked on, even if it has been slowly due to recent family trips and busy work and weekends. But my schedule is starting to lighten a bit, which means more time for code! I recently added water splashes and physics to the engine, as well as updated a couple backend things. Not much but its progress. Not sure what I want to tackle next on my list; probably more code cleanup.

If anyone is ever curious about getting the most recent version of Mannux and have access to svn, you can checkout the following URL: http://mannux.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/

Hope to have more updates soon!

First Mannux blog entry!

Hello! Just wanted to make a quick post about Mannux's progress. It hasn't been as much as I'd like due to time pressures; the next 3 weekends are gonna be busy as well with family reunions and such as well. But after that I intend to get fully back into the swing of things. I have already improved the ship landing animation quite a bit; now Tabby actually gets out of the ship! I'm turning it into a working save point as well.

There are a few more things I want to iron out before starting new content; namely, finishing the save system, making slopes work a little better, and even some other random things such as water splashes and spark generators. It is certainly interesting coming back to a nearly 6 year old codebase with much more experience and perspective. Things are much easier to do than they used to be. Just not as much time to do it all!

Because of this, I have come to the conclusion while looking at my growing todo list I am going to need help; I no longer have an artist or a map designer. I have a ton of tiles already made though. If anyone is interested in helping me with this game, particularily in the mapping area, it would be appreciated!

I can usually be found in #ika or #mannux on irc.esper.net. Cheers!
