Given that you've released two demos already, and we still don't have any encounters (which, I assume are going to be a core element of gameplay), I'd personally rather wait for the encounters.

Maybe I have difficulty balancing creativity with practicality. Designing these also means I have to determine where the trainers/tall grass/items/berry trees are going and build the maps around it.


Unless your goal is to revolutionize how a Pokemon game works, I think the work you're doing is just fine. ^_^

What do YOU look for in a (good) story? (In a video game)

Now, Illusion of Gaia is a diamond in the rough. Imagine setting to discover the world with your childhood friends. Getting to know different places, their people, their customs, etc. Imagine that at every steep something new and fascinating, or scary, or thought-provoking happens. Out of the top of my head: you get stranded at sea and nearly starve to death, then one of your friend dies, another risk his life to end a slave operation, other two fall in love and decide to give-up adventuring to settle down, your pet pig sacrifices itself to feed a starving village, and then you go and save the world in more than the material way... This game is like, deep, man. At least for its time.


Yeah, when I first played Illusion of Gaia, I found the world and environments fascinating and subtly unsettling for a game of the time (and yeah, it gets less subtle as you go along.) I won't hail it as the best game ever, but I have to agree about it being more than it seems.

I'm loving the custom graphics and the neat message box there. Since you've doing your own graphics, have you considered giving Laine a different outfit in this game to make her look more unique and further separate her from the Fire Emblem character graphic? I think that'd be really cool :D

Would it be possible to initiate combat but give a preemptive round? Or some other advantage, perhaps reducing all the monsters health by 10% or something?

Question About VX Ace Tilesets

Thanks very much, Liberty! I should have consulted the help file first. I appreciate your patience and feel a little silly about not doing that ^^;;

Also, I think I figured out the answer to my other question with the cliffs, as using the right-click method to copy tiles seems to allow me to place them the way I want without messing up the autotile ^_^

In Search of Freedom

Loving it so far! Like the unique battle system where you have to think a little differently to defeat foes, and how different characters learn skills. Snappy dialog, too! And Olga's my favorite character so far :D
