Quest Questers Review

Thanks so much for the review, Rpgmaker Addict! :DDD I had a lot of fun making this and I'm always happy to see more people enjoying it! ^_^

Weird and Unfortunate Things are Happening

Terrain made from dismembered body parts, drinking celestial saliva to heal...this should be fun. And disturbing. But I had no need to say it twice.

Also, hi. :-P

Hello Error :DDD Nice to hear from you again! Hope you enjoy ^_^

Weird and Unfortunate Things are Happening

Thanks very much, Darken! I appreciate you sticking with it for as long as you did, and sorry that it didn't click with you.

Thanks for your detailed thoughts, I don't really disagree with any of your conclusions, and I'll keep all of that in mind for future games :D This one was very much me trying a bunch of new stuff and not all of it worked as well as it could have. Also I can completely understand certain engines putting you off.

Thanks again :D

4 Years Later

As one of the kickstarter backers, I just want to say that I don't regret my pledge at all. Koi is a very talented developer and unfortunately real life got in the way and made completing the game just about impossible.

I still very much respect Koi's talent and drive. Koi's not some fraud who took the money and ran, but is a struggling artist like many of us, and I'm glad she's found success elsewhere and it's awesome to see more of the game available for people to experience :D

[RMMZ] Enemies doing way to much damage

I just need to know what plugin is causing the problem, which @Unity knows, and then the plugin parameter I need to change to make the game use the default calculation and not any weird plugin stuff.

I didn't claim to know anything other than what I said: There are a lot of plugins that can mess with damage output. I don't know which ones without opening my projects, and I can't do that right now.

If turning off plugins makes your game unplayable even for basic testing, I'm surprised. I have to turn off plugins for testing purposes all the time (back when I was working with MZ daily) I can't claim to have memorized which VS scripts alter damage, but I had to disable them, re-enable them several times to get my MV project working the way I wanted; it's just part of the process.

If you refuse to do that, then:

-Make a new project.

-Make a hero with the same level and stats as your main character.

-Make an enemy with the same stats as your enemy that hit too hard. Give that enemy just one attack.

-Make sure the attack uses the same damage formula as the other game.

-Look at the damage the enemy does and compare it to your other game.

[RMMZ] Enemies doing way to much damage

Reduce the enemies stats majorly and see if damage is reduced.

If that doesn't help, turn OFF plugins one by one to see which is causing problems. There are settings in VS that can drastically change how damage is calculated.

That's very good to hear! That really makes me feel better! Thank you, Housekeeping! And Cash and Merlandese too, I've been on the fence about this and you all lit a fire under me :DDD

Okay! I've decided, I'll put it on Steam! :DDD I'll go ahead and keep it free, otherwise there's too much to replace. I'll look into getting help with setting up the game for Steam and getting achievements put in. This is exciting! :DDDD

author=Merlandese
How many music tracks would you need to replace?

It'd unfortunately be a lot, like even if I reused tracks it'd have to be at least like twenty. And there's a lot of creative commons sound effects too >.<;; I just never dreamed I'd sell this game back when I was making it!

Tho I dunno if free games can have achievements.
They surely can!

Yeah, I dunno why I thought otherwise XD

It can be easy to feel pressured to "go big" nowadays in the social media age, where a lot of people are focused on advancement, but I think it's still perfectly okay to make a thing for the sake of making a thing.

But I think the key thing about WAUTAH is that it's been very successful on its current platforms through word of mouth and serendipity. You haven't had to aggressively push the game on social media or artificially boost its popularity to get people to play it: it speaks volumes about the quality of a game when it can find its audience and spread itself passively like that. WAUTAH has already had a proven ability to manage itself and I think that would still hold true on other platforms, too.

Sorry, I missed your post as it came while I was tying mine, but this is a great point! :DDD I think I've been overworrying about stuff, as usual for me XD;;;

All versions were free, right? If this were on Steam, I might just grab it for easier downloading?

But if you're not going for NG+ or anything, why would you download a second time? Support, of course, but still...

Yeah, there'd be no real reason to grab it again XD Unless I decided to go commercial and pay a lot to replace the music with commissioned songs, it'd be the exact same version, except maybe with achievements? Tho I dunno if free games can have achievements.

The question being, do you WANT it to blow up on Steam?

That's a good question. On one hand, I absolutely want more people to play it. I worked hard on the game for five years and I'm proud of what I and the rest of the team accomplished.

But I'm honestly a little scared, too. I've always been a very private person, so any game getting big enough where I'd have to constantly manage a community around it might end up draining. Also something really blowing up and getting big would mean things might change for me, and might change how I make games? I dunno, this probably all sounds pretty silly, but I do feel a little divided.

It's definitely something I want to think about, though. If the game could do well on Steam then I should probably take the chance at some point.

I've had some trouble finding a perfect answer for this so I'll just ask: The reason this gem isn't on Steam is because of the music?

Thanks very much! :DDD

Basically, the answer's "yes." I think I could technically put in on Steam if I charged nothing for it, as the music's all creative commons, aside from a few tracks I specifically commissioned, and one that was a very generous gift. Which, I guess that'd still probably get it more visibility and get more people playing? It's something I've considered.
