dilemma - to make the sprite smaller, or the environment larger?

Thank-you. After looking at it a bit more you're both right, the second sprite is ridiculously large.

Would something inbetween the two still be too large?

I guess I became too attached to the idea of creating detailed sprites.
(Although the small one is starting to grow on me..)

dilemma - to make the sprite smaller, or the environment larger?

-edit-
Thank-you for the help.
If anyone wants to further discuss sprite sizes, go ahead.

I'm at the planning stage for an rpg I wish to make, but I've run into this problem and am interested in hearing some opinions on the matter.

Thank-you.

smaller sprite
more of an 'old-school' feel
can fit a few buildings on the screen at a time - world feels more open/explorable

larger sprite
more detailed sprite
can only fit one building on the screen at a time - world feels limited

it feels like with the larger sprite, it almost seems pointless to have four-directional movement
and while I considered the idea of a side-scroller, I kind of want that open-world feeling.

I'm surprised this doesn't have more comments or downloads. It didn't take long for me to feel the care put into this game. The dialogue is great, I was genuinely excited to find an NPC that I hadn't yet talked to. The art style doesn't get boring or repetitive, each map is something completely different. I love how seemingly random things teleport you to unfamiliar places, how at first you have no idea what's happening. Unfortunately, after playing for two and a half hours, I still don't really know what is going on. Or rather, I have a general idea of the theme of the world, but I don't know what it is I should be doing. I don't want to spoil anything here, but I felt like I got decently far; and yet my level was 0, I hadn't met anyone that I could put in my party, (I'm assuming you meet others, since I am able to change my "order"), and I hadn't reached any kind of conclusion (aside from death). It feels like something deeper lurks beneath the surface, and I really want to discover it; but retracing my steps repeatedly in an attempt to find something that I might have missed is getting a bit tiresome. I'll keep playing, but I'm running out of ideas on what to try next. That said, I really have enjoyed it so far.
