I wrote a review but that was more with potential players in mind, so here's my (spoiler-filled) thoughts on like, stuff i'd wanna mention to you (but you are of course not obligated to reply or anything)
Characters:
WOWEE I liked everyone!
;____; is matthew autistic? i saw that sensory woes and lack of empathy mentioned... he super pinged as autistic but I fully acknowledge I could have been projecting! I'm torn between him or Vivian being my favorite, but that's a tough choice... Bland Individual is very high up there too.
(Side note, if Matthew is actually intended to read as autistic... I dunno, I wasn't super comfortable with the "sadism" aspect? I get that it seems to be a result of his Backstory more than Matthew himself, and he has the arc of someone trying to change + make amends but eh, still made me uncomfortable)
Nigel/Vivian not taking their pills also made me roll my eyes even though I super get why and it's okay for folks to not like medication... I'm just so used to seeing it get knocked as undesirable (though I also REALLY LOVED the gag later with Andy involving said neglected medication)
hello I am just going to mention seemingly contradictory things
also the allies option in the menu kind of took the wind out of matthew's sails for questions about things like "people can change" I gotta admit, or anyone hinting at his past... it was neat seeing people's business but at the same time felt, i dunno, less interesting learning about people's business via exposition screen vs seeing it in the dialogue and narrative side. (Of course I could have just NOT LOOKED but curiosity killed the suspense...)
I really appreciate that so far there haven't been any graphic references/scenes of abuse, but you show how past trauma has affected people! or just like, past Shit they have gone through (shout out to matthew and vivian here especially)
:l also got me shipping matthew and nigel, i don't know what you'll do with that information but I guess now you have it
The tone:
There was a lot of mood whiplash for me. It's tough to balance something that has both heavy topics and also lots of gags. OTL this is a problem i have in my own stuff, for what it's worth. I loved the humor and there were so many cute things and little touches that I thought were fun (like fuckface, the honey dogs, the "call me anytime" moment...)
Two things that stood out to me as really weird were:
1) why vivian/nigel would invite vork to a meal after vork just asked to eat matthew (i'd been playing nigel as kind to matthew so it seemed weird...)
2) why people were making such a fuss about the Bland Individual. In that case it was ???? since we'd been covered in murder right from the start and people were casually killed/mentioned in the background as being eaten like it was no big deal. It really lessened the impact of the Bland Individual, since I felt like they were gonna do less damage to the universe than the party. Nigel/Vivian took Matthew mutilating people with hardly a second thought (granted, abusive guards that had fucked with them), Vork's cannibalism was easily swept under the rug (as much as i chuckled at the "eat the rich" idea), and we buddied up with Andy real fast. So I dunno what made this guy suddenly objectionable in comparison.
Battle mechanics:
It felt very fast-paced and like the tables could turn quickly -- I had some exciting moments! Each character's skillset had some neat tricks, and I like the regenerating hp/mp. Though with mp, it felt kinda extraneous? like I was never in danger of running out and "how much mp do I have?" never factored into what I'd do. I feel you could just remove it and have warmups/cooldowns as the skill resource, unless you want mp management to be important or are just fine with current system!
Something I didn't quite gather were the effects of some status effects, like curse. A list somewhere (maybe something like the saccharine circle? that was handy) would be cool if it's not too much trouble.
And I beat Matthew on my second playthrough which was admittedly satisfying (sorry matthew)... i accidentally more win/lose outcomes than expected (win/lose against matthew and win/lose against andalee)
HOLY SHIT PREEN TIME WAS MY FAVORITE, ALSO
the puzzles:
I liked the flower one, it was cute! My only complaint was how hard it was to spot Sommeil, since just looking for an object in the background was not really entertaining or anything.
The art owl one was also endearing!
You know your game better than me, so take it with a grain of salt! Those are my 20 cents and I hope the full project goes well! I thought it was interesting and I really hope you're enjoying working on it!
Ahhhh thank you so, so much for leaving a review! I'm glad that you enjoyed the demo for what it was and took the time to really nail what it is I need to highlight on, add, AND trim out in a graceful manner! It is incredibly cool to me that you did that!!! Thank you! (´*・ω・*`)
And ;-) there was no way in hell that I wasn't going to leave a reply... Here's a little *cough* ;-))) hide-y window of miscellaneous responses for you:
** I'M SERIOUSLY GOING TO WEEP BECAUSE YOU NOTICED. Matthew IS canonically autistic! I didn't think anyone else picked up on that! Holy SHIT! Bless your soul!
I've Aspberger's and I remember being ashamed of it, not finding characters that I could project on, etc... So with Matthew, I get to write my OWN autistic character whose representation isn't tokenised or made fun of. CREATING THINGS IS GREAT, NO?! x'D
And yes, unfortunately the "Sadism" aspect derives from his backstory. Even if his arc is based on change and removing that indoctrination, I hope you can forgive me for making you uncomfortable (AND PUTTING IT SO OBVIOUSLY IN THE EXPOSITION SCREEN, WOW THAT WAS A POOR DECISION ON MY PART)! I didn't realise that this could have been associated with a harmful rhetoric. With this is mind, I'll strive to develop him in a way that tries to stay away from that as much as possible? Thank you for letting me know!
** Oh good lord thank you for mentioning the medication. I don't like the "medication is the witch" rhetoric either; I actually was considering Nigel/Vivian to take their medication with them! But when it came to it, I considered A)"Would an awful facility carry meritable, much less safe medicine? Prooobably not..." and B) "I am AWFUL with remembering to take my own meds, absolutely awful, maybe imparting this BAD HABIT on my babbies won't be that bad"... In other words, KILL ME, but HEY it made an okay gag!! Haha... ah... ha....
** HAHAHA I'M PISSING, THAT IS WONDERFUL INFORMATION. YOU ARE THE THIRD PERSON TO TELL ME THAT. While I cannot say which ship is my favourite............ because that is highly unprofessional ........... It's the one... that rhymes with .... Brigel and Patthew.... *KA-WONK*
** TONE WHIPLASH! HA! I have to use that now. That's such a good way of putting it, oh my lord... I hope I can get better at balancing the graveness with the humour, but if you enjoyed the light and crude things, I'm glad!
I feel like Nigel/Vivian's decision to invite Vork (I'M ALSO USING THAT, IT TOOK ME A MINUTE TO GET WHY THERE WAS A V IN FRONT, I'M KINK-SHAMING FUTURE VORK-STANNERS) to dinner was a sort of pat-out like "Fuckin'-- I am .... tired. I am also hungry. I was nearly mauled by a furry that wanted the strange glasses that I burgled off the ground. Maybe he'll mellow out over dinner? Maybe? Do cannibals mellow out over dinner...?"
AHHH, feeling weird about B.I. versus the party's own dubiousness is completely expected! That's on purpose! You've caught the irony! Although the party is meant to be celebrated because, well, they're the RPG party that the player is expected to root for, I wanted people to also question why else they -- individuals unflinchingly caked in murder from Murdertown, Murder -- would be considered "good guys" against a ""villain"" that is more or less the same way.
DO YOU PLAY BASEBALL. YOU CATCH A LOT OF THINGS, WHICH I LOVE.
**
** LAUGHS INTO THE ABYSS. OH GOD, SOMMEIL. SOMMEIL WAS A SNEAKY SHITLORD ON PURPOSE. For whatever schadenfreude-inspired reason, I wanted to fuck with people by blending it in with the parallax. Most of me is apologetic that it seemed to frustrate or confuse some folks ("Haha, oh that scoundrel, they put the last flower in a place I would never look, ahonhonhon" vs. "I'm going to consume the dev's first child if I don't find this fucking flower"), but there's that sliver of me that's snickering and rubbing my gay little hands together.
I still don't think the puzzles were programmed in the best way, as clearly as they were supposed to be, like, INTENTIONALLY AND PAINFULLY EASY "APPETISERS" for what is to come in the full game, but I sincerely thank you for liking them! I thought I would catch more flack for doing that in a demonstration, though if someone found them cute, that's super! :3
UHHHH... Okay, yeah! I think that wraps up all of the replies I could think of to your lovely commentary! I'd like to thank you a million times for leaving me a review on the demo that was 1) tender on my asshole, 2) highly informative, and 3) ENCOURAGING AS ALL HELL. I couldn't really stomach all of the first review because (to me, at least) it seemed more focused on sounding exasperated with the demo's shortcomings, and for a few days I even considered retconning, like, EVERYTHING because it freaked me out so much that there was all this bad shit, my ideas failed, etc. Thank you lots!!!! ♡♡♡♡

Thank you so much!!! :-D
Sweet Detriment Review
Thanks so much for being the first to review the demo! There's no need to apologise for being harsh, I really appreciate it and understand where both your hope for potential and disappointment comes from. I wasn't expecting someone to even make a review! Three stars is, quite honestly, a blessing in my book!
As much as I enjoy writing, it's never been much of a strong suit for me (not enough practice, English is not my first language, etc.), so I'm grateful for your commentary there. I did, however, have a lot of fun with the dialogue, but maybe too much fun? Or not enough revision. Regardless, thank you for pointing it out.
Also, I'm in almost total agreement with you on the gameplay. In this, I feel like I wrote the puzzles a little too facetiously (they were not meant to be hard or even taken seriously compared to others that will be seen down the road, i.e juuust checking for attention), which seems like a poor choice for a demonstration. I'm not too proud about their implementations, either. I'm happy that this was pointed out, too.
But I'm not sure I'm understanding the issue with the signs? I heard this exact comment from one of my testers and could have sworn I added more triggers to the event, especially ones that were closer to the middle of the signs. (If not, that's something I'll look into updating!) As for doorways and entrances/transitions to other maps, it's interesting that you would recommend smaller entrances. I was told the opposite would fix the mistake transition, but I think I believe you a little more.
All in all, thank you so much for your review! I will admit that some of your wording was more biting than I was initially prepared for, but they are valid criticisms and I'm glad to have heard something from you! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

author=Pancaekauthor=emiixAh, I see it now, thanks. It blended in with the background so well. Also, I plan to do a review for this game as soon as I finish playing it1
It's no problem, sorry for the delayed response! If you haven't already found it, the fifth flower is at the entrance to the forest on the right. :-D
Awesome, I'll be glad to receive your feedback!

Hey, I hate to ask this, but I got a bit stuck and was wondering if you could help me out. In the forest area. I can't seem to find the fifth flower. I know it's probably meant to be hard to find, but I've been looking for a good while and frankly don't feel like spending much more of my time on it. Thanks!

It's cute even if I can't tell what elements they are. It could be that: Red is fire, Mint Green is wind, Yellow is lightning, Indigo is water.
The cotton candy colors in the middle seem like they could represent gender. Those two colors are traditionally used for girl and boy respectively. Though, that might not be the case here considering the gender fluidity of the setting.
Thank you! I love your interpretations -- they were super close! I wanted to make the elements a little more ambiguous than the classic elemental rock-paper-scissors. As in, rather than associate the red element (Lollipop) with just "fire", why not "blood" as well? Or rather than "light and dark" for the pink and blue (Cotton) in the middle, why not "order and chaos"?
They very well could represent gender! I like the idea that while they're "separated" elements, almost like a binary or what it means to be traditionally masculine/feminine, they still occupy the same space, so there's definitely room for fluidity!
This is what I live for! Never think that you're overthinking it, I love reading interpretations and analyses from other people! =D

Interesting character art. Love the gender-neutrality and a cast that touches on self-identity.
Hmm, looks like they're gonna find out that life can be bittersweet.
Yes, absolutely! That kind of representation was one of the first things I wanted for this project. Thank you so much for commenting! ♡
Luxaren Allure
okay, so... initially, i didn't plan to have an rpgmaker.net account (i am WAY too shy!! :'D), but after finishing this awesome game, i rushed over here as soon as i could to leave a nice comment!
Luxaren Allure has honestly become one of my favourite games. i'm really glad that i was able to come across it. the art is amazing, the audio design is rad, the maps are great, and the characters are all so charming!
if you have more projects for the future, i would LOVE to play them! ♡
