What people need to understand is that they can say really hurtful, damaging things without realizing they're doing it, or intending to hurt anyone by doing it. It doesn't make you a bad person for saying/doing/thinking these things, but you do need to take responsibility for it. If someone says "I find that offensive" you just need to stop and not question what grounds they have to be offended.
No. You have to question it. You don't have to antagonize that person, but you have to question it. Just has you have to question your own motives, you have to question other people's motives. I think I've already illustrated in this very thread how not every instance of a 'something' that can be deemed offensive by others, needs to be treated with the severity some people here advocate... It is true that nothing exist in a vacuum, but it's not like even we, human beings made of flesh and bone, are not capable of exercising objectivity.
The response we should be looking for (which you correctly asked upthread) isn't "I'm not one of those people," it should be "Okay, what can we do to change this?"
I've gone over and over about this in my head and there's virtually no answer. If I am really part of the problem simply on virtue of being an able-bodied, straight male, then I can come to grips with this terrible fact. But until my soul finds "eternal peace" (here's hoping it's soon!) I'll just have to keep on being part of the problem, and you all will have to forgive for that, because I am truly, truly sorry.
You see, many of us already hold ourselves to the best standard we think possible. But you have to understand that one can only do so much--Creating games responsibly is only practical up to a point... I mean, if in your game there's as little as the swing of a sword (Which I think includes all the games of the people that have participated in this thread), there's already someone out there blaming you for spreading a culture that get people hurt or killed irl, and I'm not even exaggerating! So unless you're planning on dropping or altering your game, you and I will have to live with that blood in our hands. And it's not just violence, or sexism, or racism; it's nearly everything!
So, I have to ask: Are you ready for that kind of responsibility? Because I am not, and I'm genuinely scared about it, but I don't think I'll stop doing what I'm doing, because quite frankly, I love doing it... So, please, I exhort you all to: instead of retracting from the community, or "fighting hate with hate", to find a common ground in which we can all coexist, even if we don't see eye-to-eye on everything.

@slashphoenix: Well, that's kinda the point. Did anyone bother telling Dyhalto to stop using that word in this context/thread? Things scalated pretty quickly from a passive-agressive remark to full blown accusations, and that's like, holy cow! a massive leap from what should be a much simpler message: "Be considerate of others, and choose your words more carefully".
Look, you just used the world "girls" to refer to women, and I've seen plenty of women objecting to the use of that word too. "Don't say 'girls', that's condescending! You wouldn't use 'boys' to refer to men, would you?" So, yeah, why did you pick that word? Are you secretly sexist? Shall I do like our good friend mawk, and assume you're using code to sneak an insult past us? Or maybe it was just a minor oversight on your part made in the midst of a discussion and we can cut you some slack because of it? *shrug*
Edit: Yeah, I've read that. How can I not, when you keep throwing it around? But I think others have already tackled those points quite nicely, so I'm not going to waste a post indulging you. All I did was interject on what I believe is the appropriate reaction to the use of certain words, sometimes. Nothing more, nothing less. So don't try to make this about me. I know well it isn't.

Female what?
Female human. Simple. ...When Dyhalto said: "We all know what we're talking about here" I'm pretty sure he meant we're all well aware we're talking about actual human beings; This detail doesn't escape any of us, believe me. But just because someone doesn't know or want to adhere to the "t" to your belief on how a word must be used, it doesn't mean that person is out to "dehumanize" others.
What I'm trying to say is, there are cases in which a word can be used derogatorily and cases in which, well, that is not the case. And I don't think Dyhalto meant to use the word "female" in any bad way. For example, when Melkino referred to "male actors" or "male users" was she "dehumanizing" the people she was talking about? I don't think so. ...But when people use phrases like "x white males" that IS one instance of the word "male" being used in a derogatory context. So, I don't understand how people denouncing the use of the word "female" can bring themselves to say the word "male" in that fashion if they really, really had come to the conclusion that is wrong to do so.
Seriously, at the end of the day we have to understand that (colloquially speaking) there are times in which using the words: male, female, boy, girl, etc. is acceptable, and not condemn every instance of it. Sure, we can shed light into the issue, but no guilt-trips plz.
Edit: Yeah, no, I know very well what did I read. And my fedora is no more tilted that yours. ;)
Just got Suikoden 2's perfect ending and I see why Libby loves the game so much~<3
I don't know. Why not just stay behind caring for her wounds and letting Riou know she's safe? Why fake her death and let him keep on fighting with that kind of sorrow weighting on him? He just lost his sister! He's only more prone to take risks now! Seriously, Nanami's reasoning made no sense at all... I guess there's no escaping the fact that the whole soap-opera-esque scenario was just a cheap way to mimic Gremio's resurrection at the end of Suikoden 1. And then they go and try to pull the same nonsense in Suikoden 5 (And 4, kinda). That's why Suikoden 3 is the better game. People stay dead in that one. No happy endings. :|
if you're going to be an ass, be a correct ass
I don't know. What Fidchell said was probably just a misunderstanding. But what can be said about you, going out of your way to make a status with the sole intention of calling him out? Not to mention you had already addressed this issue to him, but since you got no answer I guess you felt necessary to fish for a larger audience? ...tsk tsk tsk!
Edit: I gotta admit, that's an amusing way to say: "I'm rubber you're glue..." :)

Cool! I've been waiting for this all year long. ;P These little collab games are the only motivation I have left to open rpg maker anymore...
Hey, if you need anything, just let me know. Maybe I can draw an intro for this game too or something. %P

People, what are your thoughts on FFIX?

One of the worst professionally-made JRPGs I've played...
Haha! You're funny. Sometimes I wonder if an old-school game stole your girlfriend or what... Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't you gone on record before stating FFX is one of the best of the series? (Certainly you seem to regard the 'X' games better than their predecessors.) What's funny is that both games suffer from the same exact faults you mention. (Even FFXII does) But this doesn't prevent each game to be fun on its own regard. - Nah, but you don't care about that. As long as it's old-school and popular, you just hate it. =P

On topic. Despite all its faults, I think it's one of the most beautiful looking games in the franchise. The art direction was something different; everything is so colorful and glamorous. *_* I've been thinking on playing it again myself if not just for that.
So I guess the "Images looking for feedback" thing on the Dev portal failed, eh?
@Mawk: It's a bit counter-intuitive, I'll give you that. But let's consider the fact that the Community portal became popular all on its own. And once you know there's a Community portal it can't be too hard to figure out there's a Development portal as well. And like I said, if you can't tell there's a link when you mouse over something and the the cursor changes then you have to be new, not just to the site, but to this whole 'internet' thing... None of this is exactly what I'd call a "mad adventure" it's more like "common sense".
But what I find curious is that your're reacting like if I'm arguing against making things clearer - like if I'm trying stop "change" or something. No, I'm merely pointing out how silly is to me when people don't know of a feature that has been in front of them all the time. (I can do that, right?) So, by all means, go! Go make that link a reality! Take the reins of "life" into your hands! ...Geez! xD

I love it when people is all like: "I didn't know that existed" like with the "latest posts" section or now with the Development portal. I mean, how hard can it be to browse around and see what's there? Here's a tip, if you place the cursor on top of something and it changes into a little hand, chances are it's a link, and it can take you to a whole magical new place. Try it out sometime, people! ;)
So yeah, the thing pretty much failed. It seems the kind of dynamic that exist in the screenshots topic just can't be applied to game profiles, despite our best efforts... Simply put, people don't like to give/take criticism. The major offenders are usually newbies that besides not knowing what the development screen section is for (risking being "mean" when you have to tell them), they simply are not in-tune with the idea that feedback is to help them to improve their games. They come here with a "Screw you, It's my game and I do what I want" mentality, and if they don't lash-out they simply ignore any input... Like if rmn was just a hosting site for their crappy games or something.
Then there are the people that know how things work and usually welcome and reply to criticism, yet they almost never edit their screens. The idea is to take that criticism and improve upon your work in "real time" as it often happens of the screenshots topic, and once both ends are satisfied with the results, take the screenshot down (maybe); Not just leave the screen there to gather dust! (And hopefully pageviews, right?) The best I've gotten, is a "Oh, yeah, I'll fix it when the game is done" answer, at which point I just *sigh* and move on.
I guess the question now is: Does the Development screen section deserve a second chance? ...I doubt we'll see different results.

suggested feature: removing mafia threads from the recent posts list.
Come to think of it, the ability to sort posts could be very useful. I would use it to filter status messages too. I had a "never posts on a status" policy until I realized I had broken it a few times because their icon is very similar to that of regular posts; And because some people post topics of general interest (Like this one) as a status. ...Statuses should be for dumb stuff like "Herp Derp, I just herp derped" or whatever you attention-starved kids tweet about in your facebooks all day long.
Seriously though, sorting the latests post by forum (General, Welp, etc.) or category (Images, Threads, etc.) would be pretty neat.
