My best bet is a rotation within the company I'm currently in, which I have an interview for in a couple of weeks...I think. I asked when the exact date of the interview would be today, and didn't receive a response. Welp

Because life is hilarious, I bumped into potential future manager at the company HQ, and he told me that his role would also require pair programming too. WTF. What do I do now??? I wonder if I can go back to Sony and be like WAIT SORRY I CHANGED MY MIND

Specifically, I was thinking about the new Google Inbox, which hides all of its functionality behind invisible menus and restricts navigation options to the barest possible minimum. It was like trying to browse a phone app on a giant desktop screen. It was wasteful, less useful, more tedious, and overall discombobulating.

2nd theory re: design is that this is their idea of a good ui. why it differs so much from yours or mine is anyones guess

3rd theory is that 'modernization' is not limited to the web: in the hierarchy/culture of software companies there must be some sort of prevailing programmer bias for back end over front end, ie: front end bends to the will of back end and not vice versa

in order of likeliness

the force that shaped the thing youre complaining about and the force that shaped win8 and other 'modernized' pieces of ui design are probably the same

take the job first then ask to quit because you find their system overbearing

now they have to weigh the cost of finding/hiring someone new vs simply accomodating you

tackle sceneries out of our comfort zone

youre still inside comfort zone imo

if you want to try something new: forget subject and imagination for a second. paint from a photo of a badly lit flower vase using a thick brush (about 1/40th of canvas). complete the image as fully as possible within 5 mins
