I would be lying if I said that I didn't take some pointers (and graphics and storyline and theme) from NES era RPGs. I do love the oldschool. :)
But I can promise that most of the other areas of the game are more original than this boss.

Go play Team Fortress 2. Handles very well; comes with a ton of free content, a big community providing even more free content, and is priced cheaper than MW2.
That is, when it's not crashing every 12 seconds. :O

If the ending is good enough then I don't see why there should be any postgame.
The good guys win, they defeated the big bad, and the world is restored back to order. I don't see any room for "Go slay giant unrelated dragon" anywhere there, the ending should've wrapped up everything that needs to be wrapped!
Unless it's got an important storyline behind it, in that case I don't see why it can't be a part of the normal game in the first place. Maybe a direct continuation of the story after you kill Big Bad #1, telling you about Big Bad #2. Maybe there could be a time skip!

Same. Just checked out the tech demo, and it's awesome stuff. :)
One thing that bothered me was only being able to see 3 runes in the rune menu though.
