[RMXP] Advanced Scripting Help

Hello there.

Assuming you are using the event system and not script to draw the fog. When it comes to fog, in the default code, RMXP have a set of related parameters in Game_Map. I think they are something like:

attr_accessor :fog_name # fog file name
attr_accessor :fog_hue # fog hue
attr_accessor :fog_opacity # fog opacity level
attr_accessor :fog_blend_type # fog blending method
attr_accessor :fog_zoom # fog zoom rate
attr_accessor :fog_sx # fog sx
attr_accessor :fog_sy # fog sy
attr_reader :fog_ox # fog x-coordinate starting point
attr_reader :fog_oy # fog y-coordinate starting point
attr_reader :fog_tone # fog color tone

So the fogs are set as variables (do a ctrl+F in the script page for Interpreter 5 for any of these variables to see how they work).

While the part for drawing the fog is in Spriteset_Map:
# Make fog plane
@fog = Plane.new(@viewport1)
@fog.z = 3000

And most of the drawing stuff is in Spriteset_Map, just do a Ctrl+F for "fog".

Though in your case... I guess one of the things you can try to do without altering the scripts is to find the point where the new map enters from the edge of screen and use events to cause the fog to fade before the second map enters.

Hope it helps.

M.O.N.D.A.Y.Z.: THE END OF EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING (I FEEL FINE), GET UP AND JAM JABRONI! (A Chain Game Project)

Alright, forget what I said earlier, I'm in :)

Question about the graphics styles though, when u say gbc graphics do u mean just the color palette or overall sprite drawing style? And Is there an example by which we can use as reference?

M.O.N.D.A.Y.Z.: THE END OF EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING (I FEEL FINE), GET UP AND JAM JABRONI! (A Chain Game Project)

Can I join too plz?

Actually... on another thought I might not have enough free time to work on this so... can I contribute then?

Anyone wanna work on a Chain Game (No, We're Not Making a Chain Gang...)?

Sounds interesting though I don't use VX or Ace... well at least the trial ver should last long enough for this project so why not :) is this still a thing?

Some questions for the musicians from an amateur...

If you have the possibility of moving forward i'd reccommend VX Ace.

Alright. Thanks for the recommendation and I'll have a look when I have the time.

Some questions for the musicians from an amateur...

Thanks turkeyDawg and Mirak for taking the time providing answers to the questions, those are really helpful. :)

Most of my soundtracks are not longer than 1.5 minutes, so I guess I can give OGG a try. I'll have a look on the softwares suggested. Doesn't have to be iOS, really, I tend to stick with PC for softwares, just that a close friend of mine just happened to have bought the whole package on iOS, which I get to free-ride on, plus the app felt kind of convenient to use (and I have no prior experience with any other music softwares).

Some of the features of the newer RMs sounds really nice and I really hope I can upgrade to a newer version of RM, except I felt kind of reluctant to move since I've invested a lot of time on XP already and it really took me forever to get used to a lot of the features -_-||| (slow learner). I'll give a try looking for the scripts.

Some questions for the musicians from an amateur...

At the moment I'm making my own soundtracks for my projects and I used Music Studio 2.0 on iOS. However, there do seem to have a few problems with the results. So here's a few questions for musicians (I'm still very much amateur so sorry if any of these sound stupid):

-I'm using RMXP for my projects, which only recognizes wav, midi, MP3, and ogg. Typically I've converted the soundtracks to MP3 version, and with a few tracks the file size shoots up really quickly... I heard OGG files are smaller but have some issue involving loading files (?) So which format (aside from MIDI) do people typically use/request, and what is a good balance for the size and ST quality, and is there any other factors to be considered?

-it seems that there is NO WAY for the soundtracks to loop seamlessly properly in RMXP unless it was in MIDI format. I've tried to make MIDI tracks with Music Studio, however, it doesn't have a good MIDI preview (there is a HUGE discrepancy between the instruments heard in the app and the ones played on PC). Is there a good composing/midi software that I can try have a look?

Thanks :)

[SCRIPTING] Yanfly Party System

The situation sounds similar to script hanging from being stuck in an infinite loop (I got that a lot in my script tests -_-), and they usually don't have error pops showing a specific location, though occasionally they will have popup with display of "script hanging" if you leave it running long enough (that is in XP, btw), and I don't remember if they'll have the cursor set to the location where the hanging happens.

If that's the case then you might be right about the part of trying to target and a very likely place that would have the hang to occur would be when running the smooth_target (probably actor) methods, though the cause might have something to do with how the criteria for breaking the loop wasn't met in the specific situation you described. And yes other scripts might affect how the method was run, especially if they modified something in Scene_Battle phase4 or Game_Party, etc. Looping error might happen to other scripts as well. Sadly I might not be help further beyond this since I only have XP...

[RMXP][SCRIPTING]Continue after game over?

Need a bit of help with this one.

So one time I tried to set it such that after pressing C in Scene_GameOver (or something like that), it will switch back to the map. However, it kept looping the game over screen and shows no sign of going to the map scene.

The only changes I have attempted as of now is changing the $scene to Scene_Map.new for the if Input.trigger?(C) (something like that, can't remember the exact code sorry), that which originally was supposed to go to Scene_Title. I've also tried to restore hp/sp for all party members (which may be probably kind of unnecessary since I set KO to be removed after battle). I may or may not have also tried to set the $game_temp.gameover (or something like that) to false, can't remember.

Is there anything else that I need to look into for the transition to work properly?

Or if there is an existing plug-in/script that I can look into?

Many thanks!

Edit:
Okay so later today I found that it only looped for game overs called by events. For battle-based game over though might need to reset everything by script event using the scripts in battle_end. Okay case closed.
