Another boring battle screenshot... except that...

Cameo appearances of a hero from a game not many people know of, a crazy demon-like lady, and a final boss who wants to kill other final bosses... and Jaymonius with a big hammer. :D

You don't have to draw ALL the fingers if their hands are maybe 5 pixels in diameter. Especially if you're someone like me who can't draw hands...

I'll still test your stuff though, you see I win if the judges get stuck playing games through Janurary because I made sure the maximum number of games possible work when run.

Well, throwing more developers at a project might actually harm them.

Just look at Microsoft.

Hey, I'll do some virgin XP testing in my machine to double-check and make sure your programs run in a fresh empty XP environment with just the OS itself installed and all the updates. I don't do installers but just PM me with the download link and I'll tell you if it boots or not.

Nothing's worse than turning in a game that you think runs fine, but only runs on your own machines.

The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire.

Very carefully.

...You can give someone all of the advice in the world, but the best way for some people to learn (like myself) is through experience.

That's pretty much what I just said, except I expected most people to make their mistakes on their own.

Hey it's the statues from Terranigma.

Movement debugger's platform (can I walk up stairs and slopes? Do I slide down slopes that are too steep? Does the drop shadow match the angle of the floor? etc.)

Yeaaaah I really need to draw some textures instead of using the built-in gray blocks from the 90s.

Unicode makes the site throw this crazy exception page

Yeah, although most of the Japanese I'll actually use will be in my game in case anyone from there wants to know what buttons to press or what each of the menus do. They might know how to read English, but it's a little nice if you see something that immediately pops out into your eyes.

Side Quests: Why?

Whether or not puzzles are horrible / side quests are needed and all depends on what game you are making.

"If the object of your game is to kill and kill fast, don't bog down the player with boring cumbersome puzzles"
said an actual game designer (from a typical big game company), it's pretty much valid for RPGs even though he usually designed FPSs.

I only give you side quests if I have a fun idea for you to do that wouldn't feel right in the main game line. However, challenges happen only at the flick of the difficulty settings- if you want a harder game it's going to be the same main story but merciless. And my idea of harder is double damage with turbo timer speed on with upgraded enemies, difficulty mod style.
