I'm having the same problem. I make cutscenes through Event Touch events that the player is transferred onto, then erase themselves with a self switch, but I can't do that with opening cutscenes since you can't place an event on the starting point. How do I fix this?
The way I start these things is by placing an event as "Autostart" (Make sure your hero is invisible). Autostart does not allow the player to do anything at all until the player is on a different map or you have turned the event off via switch.

I tend to try and use lower numbers for my HP and stats in my games. This is mostly because I CAN'T MAKE A MONSTER WITH MORE THAN 99999 HP but I figure it also improves the playability and appeal somewhat. It also makes balancing a snap.

Your Game Making Design
Most of my future projects are going to be medieval-fantasy, and are probably going to take place in the same universe. I've got Catastrophe's plot loosely fleshed out, and I plan on expanding the storyline. I'll venture outside the safe walls of a pre-designed atmosphere from time to time, though.
K, feeling stupid
A lot of people consider RPG maker 2003 to be the best version so far, and XP is a little outdated (VX is the newest version). I like XP myself, but it's the only one I've tried so far and my trial hasn't even run out yet.
I'd advise you to try 2k3 and VX before you actually make a purchase.

How exactly did you fix the face problem? Using just the names of the characters to indicate who's speaking makes things a bit hard to follow.

This wasn't really much of an issue and it didn't have anything to do with actually making games, so I didn't post it in H&R. If you think it belongs there, though, then alright.
Also, it's a bit slow in windowed mode... Any idea why the screen is shifted to the left, and any idea how to fix it?
