I'm just a guy interested in making an RPG. I started using RPG Maker way back in RM2k days. My first game was wiped out when my old CPU crashed so yeah.. I decided to make a new one and have been working on it ever since. I mostly enjoy lurking around the RMN forums but I've decided to become more active in the community. I can be a smart-ass at times, but I'm generally an easy going friendly dude.

:x hehe, you might hate this part of my game then. Phases (abilities character's get) are primarily leveled up depending on the elemation (the spells) usage. I do know what you're talking about though, thus I've also implemented a system similar to grandia 2's skill learning style. You can also spend something called positive points to level up phases if you don't prefer the latter. These points are acquired from all monsters, are available at the start of the game, and can be transferred to other party members (at a cost.)

im guessing that you meant the battle system from grandia is similar to your game but in my opinion
the cbs your using is much better.

I find the movement and spell range in grandia another good trademark of it's battle system. (hence why I am currently improving my CBS.) It's not there yet, but it's getting there.

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

Speaking of FF6, I'm stuck trying to reach the Magitek Laboratory after Zozo. (Don't know where to go). So far this is what I think about the characters:

Terra: Her personality is okay. Can't really say much about her. I just spam cure for her when she's in the party.
Locke: Weak. Just steal and attack. I hope he gets better later on.
Edgar: His tools were OP in the beginning of the game, but now they are starting to lose their use because of his brother. He's not as cool as his brother either.
Sabin/Mash: Hotness! I see someone got the good looks in the family. His phoenix is REALLY good atm. Plus his blitzing is fun.
Cyan: He's great. His charging is neat. Plus his "circle" move is cool looking. His Sky counter rapes atm.
Celes: Haha. I'm making her into a 100% staff chick. She's a much more useful healer then Terra.
Gau: He's kinda annoying. Plus his raging is kinda.. well, useless. I might reconsider once I train him up some more.
Shadow: His dog rapes more then him.
Banon: I wish he quit dying from tentacle sex. I found his kamehameha pray stance funny.

Game Pet Peeves

I hate reaching a new town, spending nearly all of your money on new gear, and then discovering a new town with even better gear within the next 10mins or so..

Boss Survival GO

Player's often spam heals and items when they're losing. Why not bosses to?

Interesting Gimmick #1: Any time the player heals health, the boss will instantly heal itself an equal amount (or whatever depending on your algorithms) Solution: Limit your healing.

Interesting Gimmick #2: Pokemon Pain Split. The boss take's the average percentage of health of all combatants in battle and then average them out. This will either heal him, or inflict damage to him. To make this not cheap, you should notify the player on when the boss is going to attempt this. A countdown or an easy to follow pattern should suffice. Solution: Keep your character's at relatively low health and it will work to your advantage when the boss use this.

Interesting Gimmick #3: Mind Control. If the boss possesses the power of mind control, have him control the most capable healer in your party. Solution: Just kill the controlled healer when he possess him/her.

Interesting Gimmick #4: Run Away and Heal. That's right, have the boss run away in mid battle to some random area in your room or dungeon (whatever) and heal. The longer it takes for the player to find the boss, the more the boss will heal. Solution: Put your ass in gear and hurry up and find the boss before he fully heals.

Do you prefer "strong" or "sissy" protagonists?

Most standard JRPG heroes are scrawny (sometimes angst and emotional as well), while western rpgs focus more on the permastubble and bulging biceps. As for females, well.. there's a reason why most of the women in video games share the same common superpower.

Let's have an overweight male in the party or the lead even. Better yet, let's make the chick an overweight female and the love interest. As long as neither are the "I'm not fat, just big boned" or "it's the inside that counts, not the outside" types.

A more serious response, and in the same vein, why are all female characters oversexualized namby-pambies? Why wouldn't a sword-wielding warrior woman be a little beefier and brawnier? (and why do the females always have to strike some alluring pose in the game's promo art?) That irks me just as much as pansyboy heroes.

Because more then likely their designers are male. Plus, the majority of gamer's are male. Sex Sells.

What are you working on now?

I'm still sprucing up my battle system. I've updated it's HUD and cleaned most of the events so far. I've added area-of-effect to many abilities. Also both enemies and allies can now freely move around their corresponding vicinities. Now when you target an enemy, not only do you see it's health and skill if it's casting something, you can now see the value of an item it's holding (if any) and see how much KASH it can drop (if any). Boosting and Inertia Cancels now have cooldown's as well.
