I don't know a better way to ask. However what are your thoughts on mature content in games? There's things I want to do in my games, but I am afraid too, in fear of negative reviews because of it even if I say what is in the game. Sorry it's on my mind.

Well I certainly wouldn't do anything controversial, or sexual, and I wouldn't do anything that has no reason to it. I am against controversial things depending on what it is. It just really makes me mad when people give a game a negative review just because of what in it is mature even if the developer specifically said what is in the game, and said do not play if you are offended by this. Sorry if I am being mean, but the way I see it if you are offended by a game, then do not play it, do not comment on it, and do not give it a review. That's just how I feel.
I am all for putting mature elements in games, granted that it makes the game better and is done tastefully (and is well-researched by the developer).
I personally think it is worth the risk if its a subject you really want to be in your game.

Thank you. I was just worried, because some people here(not all) give games a negative review just because if something that offended them. It is worth the risk. Unlike some people(not all) I say what is in my game even if it's just one scene. I do not put up with negative reviews that are given just because the person was offended, but I need tougher skin. I am not trying to make any feel sorry for me, but part of the reason I am the way I am is because I'm bipolar. That's why certain feed back bothers me if it's not really that constructive.
If you mean Shayoko, she gone. I know she was very... loud about her likes and dislikes in games. >.>
Honestly, as long as it's handled with tact and care, and not just thrown in for the sake of gratuity, it should be fine. Just remember to make it apparent in the description that it is there.

I will Liberty. No, worries. I do try to be careful. There's some things I wouldn't even do. However I have seen some reviews on games that got me pretty mad because of a few things. I just need to be tougher like I said.
Well, as long as you're not doing anything "sexual" or "controversial" I think you're safe. Those are the things that usually make people stop thinking, but the vast majority are chill with most anything that can be considered "adult content".
As for the matter of reviews, you're probably out of luck. If someone wants to give you a bad review over whatever petty issue they want, chances are they will get away with it. "Reviews are just opinion anyway!" It only takes for someone to put together 300 words about anything they feel really strongly about, for a review to get accepted... But don't worry. Everything is fine. =)

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

author=Rose_Guardian...you want to put mature content in your games, but not anything that belongs to any of the categories of mature content? WTF?
Well I certainly wouldn't do anything controversial, or sexual, and I wouldn't do anything that has no reason to it.
I've never heard of anyone who's upset by sexual content, as long as the game or movie is clearly rated and not being marketed to kids.
Overall I think you just sound like a coward. Everyone has controversial ideas. You gotta share them. Not putting all that shit in your game is the only thing that you'll controvert with me about. I think the idea of holding back art because you might offend people is extremely offensive.
@alterego Thank you.
@LokeZ I didn't think of that way. Sorry about that. That means I can go ahead, and post my short mecha bullet hell game when I finish it. :D

There's always gonna be critics of whatever you do. Just mak the gam you want to mak and be prepared to deal with the fact that some people won't like all of that gam.

What happened to him? (Cause I'm pretty sure he was a guy by his YouTube videos)
As one of the people who writes the kinds of review you may be afraid of, here's what usually prompts me: someone never mentions anything or their only heads up is the incredibly vague "mature content" or "this game may contain offensive material/is inappropriate for children" which could refer to either a game with blood and swearing or something like rape and child abuse.
You know what happens if a dev mentions specific things in their game I already know I probably won't enjoy? I tend to find something else to play. And then bam, no negative review for people to argue over.
My main complaints in such reviews or comments are usually "I wish the dev had just labeled things better" and "I feel this element of the plot wasn't very well-executed or is not adding much". It still sucks to hear, but I think it's unlikely you'd get someone calling you a horrible monster for including something in your game. If someone leaves feedback that just personally attacks you that's their problem, not yours, and for all kinds of feedback it's a good skill to see what you can learn from it (or even just learning to separate feedback you care about from feedback you don't care about)

Is shayako permanently banned? His criticisms were pretty blunt to the point of being toxic at times, but he was one of those few people who played just about EVERYTHING. Seems a shame to lose someone like that.

Not even. A lot of his/her complaints were found on the basis that they didn't even read the description of the game. They don't like "battle RPGs" so why are they playing a game that explicitly states to be a battle rpg? The fact they also left a review on an ANCIENT game of mine kind of suggest that they cherry-pick a bit.
Honestly, they contributed nothing to this community and I'm wholly glad they're banned.
... To answer your question directly though, they were only banne for about a week(?). They sent pms harassing a developer over a game they didn't like, that's what got them the boot.
Yeah, I mean, it's fine for him to have gotten a temp ban for being too hostile, so all's well there. But, in regard to him contributing nothing to the community, it's not like those instances encapsulate the totality of him as a person. I remember him giving a pretty objective review to Born Under the Rain.
Actually Shayoko did contribute quite a bit. I was marveled when i woke up with Shayoko's extensive list of EVERY TYPO IN RESONATE out of the blue.
Shure, a rather loud person indeed, and perhaps impulsive who doesn't put much thought to words, but an addition to the community nonetheless.
I'm gonna miss Shay :V even if i don't know what prompted the banning.
Regardless I say GO, Rose_Guardian! I tell you, I hold back on my own art because I'm afraid. We shan't do it, though. Art is meant to be the ultimate form of expression, and in this freedom it should be respected. Say whatever you have to say.

I agree. Even though Shayoko was kind of a pain to deal with, her/his methodical way to give feedback was often times more informative than some reviews. I wish more people were that thorough; And played games at that rate too... Frankly I'm surprised. She/he didn't seem the type to push an issue that far. Not to the point of messing with people via PMs. O.o
