huh. Super Smash Bros is turning into Super Japanese Anime RPG Bros.
I am disappointed. I don't know who those characters are or even what game(s) they are from.

I'm just going to assume it's Eggplant Wizard and Dr. Wily so there's a 99% chance I'll be disappointed if I ever look up to who it is.
It's three trashy animu nobodies from FE Awakening. I was in agony listening to that whiny HERRO SNPAI KAWAIII vomit dialogue during the fucking video.
No Professor Layton, no Toad, not even a measly Balloon Fighter. BUT WE NEED FIVE FIRE EMBLEM CHARACTERS YOU GUYS

My dreams of a Captain N fighter have once again been dashed
I looked it up, it's Captain Falcon which I'm surprised wasn't already assumed to be in, and two FE:A characters Lucina and Robin. Robin being the unit the player creates. Like you pick the gender, one of three ages, hair style + color and shit like that. Dunno how it'll work out but I'll assume 1) poorly and 2) put in eggplant wizard and dr. wily already you losers. Also super chin Simon Belmont.

I guess Lucina just genderswaps into Chrom or something. Whatever. Maybe they can relegate Falco and Wolf to costume swaps too and save room this time.
Chrom's an assist trophy. Here I'll just dump the article so we can nerd sperg about what's actually happening instead of misinformation:
Kotaku
Nintendo promised one new Smash Bros. character reveal this morning and instead gave us three: the returning Captain Falcon and two characters from Fire Emblem Awakening—Robin and Lucina.
Chrom also made an appearance in this morning's trailer, but sadly, he appears to be an assist trophy or Final Smash for Robin, not a playable character. Watch the reveal here:
Captain Falcon has been in the Smash series since it first debuted on Nintendo 64. The other Fire Emblem characters are total newcomers, joining Marth and Ike to raise the total Smash Fire Emblem count to a whopping four.
Robin, by the way, is the official canon name for the main hero. You'll be able to play as both the male and female versions in the new Smash, which is out this fall for 3DS and Wii U.
Note: the original headline for this post said four characters were announced, but we've altered it to clarify that Chrom isn't playable.
I was just about to make a status on how underwhelming these new additions are, but then again I have yet to play Fire Emblem: Awakening, or any FE for that matter.
It looks like my dream of Klonoa being in smash has been dashed.

I've heard of Fire Emblem. I am assuming it is some kind of RPG?
A tactics RPG at that. I've heard the games were actually pretty good.
.. I actually would've liked Chrom. Mighty handsome that guy.
The only good thing about FE characts is that they look nice. But.. oh well. Never understood that character roster anyways. I mean, we had so many doubles, it's ridiculous.
Melee was particularily annoying. Pikachu AND Pichu in one version. Three fucking Mario-esque. Roy and Marth with same the skill set-up (ground vs air, I know I know, there are difference, obviously) .. and stuff.
It plays nicely enough, I just hope they don't have too strong additives and imbalances.
I only own one FE, one of the worst, apparantly. But I do not dig the system at all.
It's as simple a strategy RPG as it can get. Grid-based. Attack with weapon/spell book, the key is in exploiting which weapon is good against which, using your range.. and forming overpowered character bonds.
Usually, once you had a good combo, you were OP. Awakening had a decent roster, if you take Radiant Dawn instead .. more than 30 playable characters. Don't expect to care for more than 3. If at all.
Most characters have been too flat, villains too clichéd, story boring (but hey, I'm picky with story), imho.
Awakening is supposed to be the best entry yet, coupling-system included, so I need to check that one out once I bought a new 3DS. Which could take quite some time. It certainly isn't my cup of tea, that much I can tell.

I've only ever played like 2 hours of Awakening, and it was very underwhelming (seems to be a trend I guess). It was just generic fantasy, character stereotypes, animu stereotypes, dark evil lord blerellglrhlvl
I did not revisit it, and speaking of that I need to trade it in when I go back to EB Games next.

That sums up about any FE game. Some enjoy the battles, I guess. Others the characters. Other the romance in Awakening (I know a couple of girls who love that aspect more than should be healthy)
Played the demo, but meh. I've heard so much good, but it really comes down to that. Enjoy the battle/character system or hate it.

I'm ok with the characters. But I'd of liked Umbreon and Hatsune Miku better
I would have never guessed that from you

The battle system could have been good if it were used in a game which had nothing to do with FEA

The Umbreon part or the Hatsune Miku part? It's the Umbreon part probably.
I'm not too surprised by the reveal given the commercial success of FE:A. But...why all the hate? I don't care about the series much either but Robin looks like a pretty interesting magical fighter, and more female characters never hurt. Not to mention the stellar batch of newcomers announced already(remember Megaman?) and whoever has yet to be announced.
