I love it, Max! Is it some kind of Survival Horror? It sort of gives that vibe.

Game slowdown [2K3]

Oh, that's another thing. The size of the map. I remember when I played The Way Episode 4 on my old (OLD) computer, and I got to Estrana (it was a city 500x500 tiles big). Major lag.

Then I played in a different computer and it was fine. That *could* be the problem, but if your computer is modern, I don't know what could be causing it.

The switches shouldn't be a problem, or the sprites. Those are low quantities, in my opinion.

I don't know about the Boss randomizer, though. That could be it... but check by cutting the event and pasting it in a different, tester map, and then go to the problematic map and see.

Well, first you should check for parallel processes, but I think you already did that. Is there a lot of number crunching and updating of variables?

Pictures being shown based on variable values?

Battle animations being shown?

Auto start events?

Lots of actual sprite events?

Bank System problem

Well, I'll give it a shot, even though I'¡m not sure what you are experiencing problems with:

First off:

When you want to show how much you have in the bank, the variable containing that amount is \v(6); in your "Withdraw (\v(2) in bank)" line, you have to reflect that. All instances of current funds in bank should also be changed to that.

When you add the amount of the withdrawal, you're not subtracting it from the account; all you're doing is making the funds in the bank account equal to the amount you just withdrew. The line should be
\v(6) = \v(6) - \v(3).

Then show the \v variable, instead of the \v(3).

Then, when depositing. Your current gold is stored in \v(4), not 3. So display that variable instead of the \v(3).

Again, the money you want to deposit is stored in \v(3), so you want to display that when asking "Are you sure you want to deposit..."

Then, again, you are equaling the bank funds to the amount you want to deposit. What you want to do is to add the deposit amount (\v(3)) to the bank account, \v(6).

And then display the correct variable.

I hope that helps... even though I've never worked with scripts, this one is a simple variable changing code. Shouldn't be a problem.

I can still see a pattern, but not a deal breaker for me. I like the tree!

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

Reworking the opening to my game because of a random bug that popped up from nowhere, since I have not touched that map in years.

I dont mean to speak for Craze, but in his review of Leo and Leah he states that he has no problem with RM2k3 games only problems with the program itself. I hope that answers your first question and secondly I would advise you to worry about advertising after you have completed a substantial amount of work for your game. If that is the case I'd be more than happy to help you advertise your game.

Well, that's good to know; I was fearing it was a different iteration of the phenomenon I've seen on, for example the subject of WoW vs newer MMOs, like Guild Wars 2 or The Old Republic: people defending WoW for the sake of it.
One thing is to loathe the engine, another to recognize that people can make good games with the limitations it brings to the table.

As for my game, thanks, I think I'll create a profile for the game by the end of the week.

Given that you, Craze, started the thread and seem to be the VX/Ace advocate, let me ask you something:

If any given RMN user were to release a non sucky game in RM 2k3, would you play it? Review it?

PS: Question here, since I honestly don't know: if my game submission is accepted, how can I advertise for the game?

If you use it, why do you still use it?

Because I am very familiar with it, and switching to XP/VX would set me back a long way on my project.

Have you ever thought about switching to a different maker?

Yes!

author=Craze
If so, why have you not?

Again, I would need to change my project and make a huge overhaul. I also hate the reversion to the front battle system present in RM2k. Yes, I know, "use scripts", but... too much work, I guess.
