RPG Maker games obscurity iceberg
i feel like if this was made after 2022 i'd be here asking "where's yoshi goes to tesco. where is this masterpiece of our modern age. where is this sistine chapel ceiling of gammak" so i feel like we need to update this for the new generation
Personally I just like the VIP collabs and this one semi-obscure hack called Romancing Mario, but Romancing's pretty small fry, and VIP's quality is very all over the place for most of the games but that's why I love em so much.
There's people who still have feels towards Talkhaus' ASMT and other hacks from that era, but I feel as charming as ASMT is, it's aged like milk. And I'm saying this as someone who is making a follow up with people in that forum and Youtube commenters who dropped by.
But most people were like extreme beginners and I feel that's why it even got finished and it's the same for this one, but I feel people have more experience with Mario games (fan and otherwise) that the beginner levels tend to flow better somehow? No idea.
sorry i went off topic oopsie
EDIT: I think SMW Gaiden and such might be considered up there, but Gaiden's difficulty is incessant that I cannot play it savestateless because I'm a baby child pisspants
author=DarkenKaizo's basically a subgenre at this point and honestly I'm not sure what people consider highly regarded in terms of Standard stuff these days, since opinions just come and go.
Like how SMW romhack players (probably) have a highly regarded hack that's way less popular but more advanced than Kaizo.

No worries, :) Thanks for the kind words KobaBeach ♥, posts like yours mean the world.
I'll try and update this as soon as I have free time over the holiday season.
Again, much appreciated ♥.
Thank you so much, here's a blog post by someone who most definitely knows better than me, please keep this up.

Same with um, stuff like the mega man powered up server shutting down, unrelated to rpgmaker i know, but it would've been cool to grab those. I think someone already uploaded them to webarchive, and all you need to do now is swap it to your psp memory card folder.Still, it's cool to hear backingup efforts in various formats.
An LPer I watch is going through the official promo stages on that archive and honestly Dengeki are the best level designers so far.
Hype for whatever comes out of the FES archives, I legit don't know anything about that engine, hope it's not too hard to play them later (either on Citra or on an actual 3DS).
Starting pixel art?
Hi. I've finally got legal versions of RM2k and 2k3 thanks to a friend on Steam, so I'd like to try and use them more "seriously"? (As serious as mostly shitpost games can be)
I'd honestly just like to ask how to get started with pixel art. I've perused some other tutorials, mostly for larger sprites but I'm not really sure how to get started. A friend of mine is a freelance pixel artist, and for MUGEN or fighting game stuff he usually sketches to get a baseline for the artwork and pose.
Though, my usual areas of "expertise" are SMW romhacks and... this? So, I'm wondering where best to start this journey of sorts. I guess I'm also a beginner digital artist, but a lot of my art is mlm gay nonsense, so I can't show it here. I've thought about sketching out a basic drawing and then downscaling it and working off that, but I've also seen people say that Frankenspriting and editing is also a good way to learn how sprites work before making original stuff...
I'm perfectly fine with rips, I really enjoy the jank of clash and copyrighted materials but I also like some consistency in my life. I also appreciate the older RTPs, they're super cute.

[RM2K] GW But Also Other Adjacent Communities Because Who The Hell Uses RM2k Anymore Chaingame
I'm not 100% aware of the past of GW/SaltW outside of Barkley + cboyardee and his friends and how it was a huge hub for RM2k/2k3 nonsense and also people got into a lot of drama with GGZ but I'm sending you my spirit bomb energy if possible. Collaborative jokey efforts are super good and fun and great
What RMN game are you playing now?
newbie necro, sorryyyyyyyyy!
Rxcovery - Started this one at the beginning of this year maybe? It has cute men and it's SaGa Frontier inspired so. I went through one round of the main game, and I'm still collecting Dream Dollars to pay off the bill.
A Blurred Line - Started this last month I believe? Past the Rat Tunnels. Really neat game but I wish it had more reliable "inns" instead of making you rely so much on items in the early game.
Densetsu Redone - Played through the demo yesterday. Cute little project with a cute CBS.
Aurora Wing - Really impressive isometric SRPG done in an engine that doesn't natively support it. Major props. My one complaint is that none of the maps seem to have music? I opened this up on RM2k, just to make sure and it's just like that... I'm past the first battle, and I want to play more when I'm able to.
Final Fantasy vs. Dog - I game overed before Kain showed up. Hilarious game, will try again. I am on Windows 10, I'll see if it has problems in my system or not.
Frontiers Extreme - Still need to start it, need to find the save that doesn't shunt you into the debug room. A close friend who was one of the lead devs on this (the other one is in the same Discord and is also my friend, so) gave me a slightly improved yet still unfinished version of the last demo, some questionable/edgier jokes were changed, bugs fixed, slight more polish. The demo was basically made for another friend of ours who wanted to replay it on stream with his wife.
VIPRPG:
Tales of RTP - Messed around a bit to try out the battles, still need to continue.
Ai wa Sadame, Sadame wa Shi - Strange dungeon crawler I got off Vector. Need to puzzle it out more.

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?
Gdleen - Grinding outside Edona for gold and levels iirc? This game's plot feels like a first draft, would like to read the book it's trying to adapt and its sequels, but my Japanese isn't that good.
Lagoon SNES - Poverty grinding outside Natela's room. Man the X68k version is gonna be one hell of a whiplash.
Tecmo Secret of the Stars - Leveling up near Bonzley before beating up the creepy circus man. lmao this game
SD Gundam Gaiden: Knight Gundam Monogatari: Ooinaru Isan - Parked at Sweetwater's inn in Chapter 2.
Lufia II - At Bound Kingdom. Replay.
Final Fantasy V - Leveling up jobs at the Prototype Island in World 1. GBA, previously beat SNES.
Valkyrie Profile - Hard Mode: Nethov Swamp. Trying to build Belenus to yeet him to Asgard or whatever.
Final Fantasy IV - Just outside of the Lair of the Father, got Fusoya. First time on PSP, but I've beat SNES before.
Tengai Makyou Ziria - Almost done with the State of Banmou, got Tsunade, I'm at Shirakawa City.
Arcus Odyssey - At Act 4 as Erin. Picked this one at random, this fucks.
Arc the Lad III - Every Job done until 52 I believe?
VIP & Wall Mix (SMW romhack) - Starting World 5 after finishing the optional World 4 and Mangrove Forest and Cannon Fire levels. Replay.
Tales of Destiny 2 - At the Undeveloped Jungle in the Alternate Timeline, just got out of Elrane's Flying Dragon.
And that's the past month, I guess

VIPRPG Summer Camp (Japanese)
http://viprpgsummer2016.web.fc2.com/
VIPRPG Summer Camp is an annual summer competition held by 2ch where they create and judge rpgmaker games made with VIPRPG.
(...we're still trying to figure out what VIP means in this context, we're not exactly sure)
(2015 - 2006, etc can be found at the bottom of the page)
Ah yes, pardon. I don't know if anyone explained this yet but, VIP is basically a board on 2channel (now 5channel, not to be confused with Futaba Channel, which 4chan took its design from) called Newsoku@VIP. It was originally a board meant to funnel shitposts and shit threads away from the main news board, but people started funneling themselves on purpose, so it just became a general effort-shitposting board.
VIPRPG is basically mostly games made in RPG Maker for fun and to impress fellow RPG Maker thread posters. The effort varies, some of these can be really complex, I was especially inspired to pick up RPG Maker in The Year Of Our Luigi 2022 because of two Japanese-made Tales of CBSes I saw in RPG Maker 2000.
A link to their main wiki can be found here, there's links to the several festival/gamejam/whatev pages along with some pages for free assets based on RTP materials and whatnot (there's a whole lore going on that's made as they go along).
I've been an avid follower of 2ch's past "VIP Mario" Super Mario World collaboration romhack series done across several boards (I assume they had to change boards due to raids and derails) until its drama-induced end sometime ago, so.
Major kudos for the multiple site wide effort in keeping these archives. I can't really help in adding to them or hosting them, but I appreciate the work that went into this since I want to study how some CBSes and Events and whatnot were made to help figure out the intricacies of some of the Makers.
Sorry for not reading the thread yet, too many pages.
